Planetside 2- Planetsized Battlefield now on Ps4

Is there a special way to kill these max suits? I cant do shit to these guys ever. They just come in and massacre the room with one of them. Any loadout I should have to counter this crap?

Buy a MAX? Bring some friends? You're asking for a load out to be a solo force to completely negate a bunch of currency someone had to spend to pull that suit out. Pretty sure MAX suits are balanced to be quite lethal one on one. Bring friends.

I dont understand this is free to pay and there is also a £79/year recurring subscription option.

Is this pay to win - why would I pay £79/year - what does that get me.

More XP per kill
Faster cert gain
500 BP per month
Que priority
Faster material gain for spawning vehicles (I think)

Its not pay to win. Weapons aren't really upgrades but sidegrades. You could never put in a dime and still do very well.

A quick question - Is this the full release or just the open beta? Only I ask because Digital Foundry, in their breakdown, keeps referring to it as in beta and that changes to things like frame-rate/tearing are going to change at release.

Full Release. Although there are still lot to fix.

You can't do it face to face 99% of the time especially when the max has more than half health, they will just mow you down even with the heavy's shield. C4s from above or around corners are your friend. You can be a heavy with rockets and Anti-vehicle grande (it sticks to them) to get them, but be ready to dump your shots and hide between them. It is what I do I come close to a max (unless the max is from NC, then I put a bit of distance, use my dubstep gun...I mean Lasher, then watch them dance) AV mines also work on them as well, which you can put in their path as they follow you.

It is the NS Decimater rocket launcher that really hurts a max head on especially without an upgraded flame jacket. You can get them without friends, but gotta be ready to play a bit of hide and seek.

Good news is I racked up 300 certs today. Twenty certs away from either my sirius or eradini SMG.

I recommend watching this video to see which of the two SMGs suits you best.

Biolab making me cry. Guys there is a teleport into the base at Allum ahhh

lol man... every time we go to a biolab, I feel the same way. People need a giant arrow pointing to those teleporters, but I still have a feeling that they would rather jump to their death instead. :(

Still haven't been able to play this game with anyone, I feel like it would click a lot better playing this in an organised squad, instead it always feels like a big cluster fuck

So i've been leveling up to 12 or so and i think this is pretty fun. What keeps me from really having a blast though is that i can't fucking tell friend apart from foe. It's insane, and i can't even count how many times i've died because i thought "that dude" was on my side.

And i'm not the only one, i can tell because every now and then an enemy runs right past me and presents his ass to my loaded carbine. :P
I do enjoy that. But mostly it just sucks. I can't believe they didn't do more to let you differentiate.

I really need to take another look at some PS4 streams to see how different the IFF is.

Granted, on PC, I primarily play red and get to shoot at not-red, so... ;)

Thanks - I'll download it and give it try out. Tearing is my biggest bugbear, so i'll have to see if I can put up with it or not.

Recommendation: Give it a minimum 3 to 4 hour go in one sitting. Initially it seems like shit running but the game sucks you in once you give it a chance.

I'm just heading back from the store with a PS cash card. Decided I'm enjoying it enough on console to get back into it. And I have a PC account (untouched for over a year) with lots of stuff unlocked. I'm just really feeling this on console.

.

To be fair on PC I think it was over a month before I figured out you can get directly into the biolab through the Allum teleport thanks to a sunderer parked beside the building the teleport is housed in. Still it was heartbreaking watching the Vanu zerg use the jump pads and die over and over and over and over again lol

Is this FPS noob friendly? Haven't played many FPS in the past 10 years, played Destiny some, but that is about it.

TTK (time to kill) is low meaning you live longer than normal fps. Spread on guns is fairly high ... This is done purposely ... Teamwork is king for taking down hostiles.

I would say yes in terms of shooting mechanics and survivability, its noob friendly. UI, meta, overall gameplay mechanics though its VERY harsh lol.

Urrgh. I was playing yesterday and the VS population on Ceres fell to 20% compared to 40% for the TR and 40% for the NC.

That's poor design. I mean we're outnumbered 4 to 1 and you can't move your characters between servers.

I enjoy the gameplay but the ridiculous imbalance ruins the overall experience.
I had already bought a bunch of VS gear (which seems overpriced anyway) to support Daybreak and I've got my character up to around level 22 I think so I don't want to start with another faction and that would feel like I just wasted my money on the VS gear.

I can't believe they just let this imbalance get so out of control. I think I'll give it two weeks and if they haven't taken any steps to address it then I'm probably done with Planetside. It's a shame because the actual gameplay can be great fun but server populations have already plummeted. Between the lack of meaningful instructions, broken launch servers and a design that allows such awful imbalance it's not hard to see why.

I'm experiencing the same issue on Palos where the VS population rarely even gets to 20% anymore. At first I was enjoying the benefit of the XP boosts you get from playing on an outnumbered factions, but now frustration has set in. It's become almost impossible to win alerts, our forces are spread too thin to hold much territory even outside of alerts, and 3 way battles over a location are a nightmare.

Same thing on Genudine, and while VS can play great defense they rarely go on the offensive as a result of the player count. It was 27% last night, which is better than Palos but still not enough to make an impact.

I keep reading this yet Vanu on Genudine wins alerts one after the other on daily basis for the past week even with 27%~32%. We locked Amerish from an alert, then captured all of Indar Wednesday night. Hell, even Hossin was captured by us even though TR really likes to capture it.

I will add pictures of this later. Really don't get this talk about low population issues on Genudine at all.

Edit: Here are some pictures that I took. Note that NC is the highest population all the time on Genudine:
- NC pushed out of Indar, and then both TR/NC out on a different day (Not alerts):

It is not the first time that I see people saying the opposite, so it is a weird experience since it is the other way around for me. I even left Palos and made a new character on Genudine with a friend because it is much better than Palos.

Hah! That second screenshot! I took one right around the same time because, well for basically the same reason as you: to show that VS still does pretty well despite being outnumbered. (I also screenshot to show the faction percentages for the continent then.)

Also: looks like the servers are getting DDOSed again. My ping shot up to 10,000 then I got kicked out of them game.

That looks like a VS paradise compared to Palos, where our population is averaging ~15% most of the day. Most of the alerts we're leading usually fall apart toward the end because the other factions use their size advantage to cap more of our territories than we can possibly try to defend. The very few that we do win is usually because a large scale 3 way battle unfolds at over one territory that keeps everyone distracted until the end.

Funny how you were right where I was at before I left to chase NC out. I should have taken more pictures throughout last week.

And man, they need to stop already. Sigh

I'm not sure when or how it will get better on Palos. It may improve once they introduce different types of alerts like on PC, but it might take a long time until then (capture tech plants or capture biolabs across all continents.) Not ideal and last restortish, but if you haven't spent money on your character and not a lot of time, you could maybe make a new one somewhere else.

10% or less doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference vs NC on Genudine like 38% for them and 28% for us yet Alerts and gaining against them isn't anywhere near as hard as the numbers imply.

We no longer have these alerts on PC (we haven't had them for at least a couple of months), only the territory ones.

Even though we liked to complain about them (the Biolab ones were terrible), I kinda miss them now.

Are there any people online right now who play this game ob PS4 and would be willing to play with me and a fellow GAFer and walk us through the game's mechanics?

Man this is one inaccessible game.

All those weird names for locations, irregular zones shapes despite all having hexagonal cells, different maps, continents etc etc...and the friend system isn't working for me. I can't even invite my friend for some reason wtf and you have to type the name eh.

C4, one seems enough to kill them.

Thanks guys this was the kind of info I was looking for. Some tips on load outs/equipment that works well on them. Haven't had a chance to play since Wednesday night so maybe tonight if the servers work.

Vanu was pretty underrepresented in the original game on my server as well but still did really well overall. If you have some coordinated outfits, you can overcome. They were crazy coordinated at times.

I actually miss PS1.

Guys, which clan has the best ground weapons? I'm not interested in vehicular warfare at all, so is there one with standout ground weapons? Or are they all the same?

They are all pretty similar, to be honest. Most of them are the same across factions. When they differ they tend to follow these general rules:

New Conglomerate has hard-hitting but slow firing weapons with heavy recoil, also lots of shotguns.
Terran Republic has lots of dakka (RPM and mag size).
Vanu Sovereignty has no bullet drop, faster/no reloads and less ADS movement penalties.

Outfits are not gonna make up for 20% vs 40% and 40% like on Ceres. That's a 4 to 1 disadvantage.
What will happen is people will just get sick. Some will join other factions but many will just stop playing. The populations have already collapsed. They don't need to go much lower.

I feel like just stopping at the minute cos I spent a bunch of money on already overpriced VS stuff and I think they should have designed things better so such huge population disparities don't spoil gameplay.

What?! Wow, I didn't know people hated them. When I played on PC, these alerts were very interesting as we had to go to different continents at once. The dynamics of play changed a lot vs just capturing a continent.

Ah well. Did they add anything else to compensate or is capturing continents for alerts the only kind now?

But I had a right old blast trying - after 3 or so hours I was getting my head round it but by God does it not really bother explaining anything to you.
I knew that once you left the start area you couldn't go back but on one of my deaths I pressed r3 to squad spawn and was jettisoned into the war on the main continents, never to return!
I'm at rank 5 now and just figured out that I can spend some points on sights, etc and that I didn't need the other currency after all (what appears to be the pay currency), though I'm still not sure what the blue things I've been accruing are for.
Turned it off buzzing - haven't had that in a game for a while.
Went with Conglomerate, Ceres (I think).
Need to watch some more videos to see what else I can learn - steep learning curve but seems very rewarding (No K/D to fret over is beautiful).

Oh good. People joining Ceres and going with TR or NC. I guess we VS might as well just pack it up and go home now. Sigh.

Anyway, as your new-ish, I thought I'd give you some random tips.

Infiltrators can hack consoles that spawn vehicles and weapons. You can use your cloak to sneak into an enemy base and flip the vehicle spawn and get yourself and instant tank or whatever and stop the enemy from using them.

Medics can be really helpful to the guys in the front. However, upgrade the Medics tool asap. It makes life much easier for you if you can get people up in a flash. Also use your class ability to heal yourself and people around you.

Engineers. Don't forget your turrets. Even if you don't get tons of kills they can really disrupt an enemy advance.
Upgrade your repair tool fast. If you have deployed a Sunderer and you are another class remember you can use the Sunderer to quickly change to an Engineer, repair it and then change back.

Heavy. You can upgrade the amount of rockets you can carry. Nice. You can equip vehicle grenades and C4. Both are good damaging MAX soldiers.
If you are a heavy your team need you to take down vehicles and MAX guys. This eats through ammo quickly. Fortunately you can resupply everything including grenades by going to a weapon console or Sunderer and choosing redeploy.

Sunderers are awesome. But very very very slow. Fortunately there are speed upgrades available.
If you choose to stick with its starting weapons that's fine. But upgrade the ammo capacity on both turrets. It's not actually that expensive.
You can switch positions in the Sunderer including the turrets by pressing X.
You can deploy the Sunderer to become a mobile spawn point for your team by pressing Triangle. You can only do it when it says 'deploy' under the Sunderer damage indicator - you can't do it inside a radius of the enemy base (shown on the minimap) and you can't do it too near to another deployed Sunderer. If you want your Sunderer to be a useful spawn point try to park it creatively. Find somewhere as close to the enemy as possible, because long hikes to the enemy waste valuable seconds, but hopefully obscured from view - behind some rocks or hidden under a building. If your team has a Sunderer already near a capture point see if you set your Sunderer near one of the others. It'll split the enemies attention and confuse their defence as you will be spawning from all sides.

In bases with generators you can destabilise them by standing near them and holding Square at the prompt. If the generator is not repaired it explodes and drops the vehicle shields which allows your team to roll the tanks in.
Mending generators is done the same way.

If you get killed and no one revives you then auto spawn is useful - especially if you just want to spawn at your own Sunderer.
If you use the normal spawn though you will get the chance to choose to spawn at any of your team mates Sunderers if you wish.

Remember to use the spot function. It makes it that bit easier to see your targets and helps to stop them sneaking up on your team mates.

New patch notes, which will be a much bigger update compared to the first two. This is the kind of update that I have been wanting.

Highlights:

- Outfits: Similar to clans or guilds, join up with your friends and leave your mark on Auraxis.
- Teleport to any continent/Koltyr instance that your friends are on. To improve the ability for players to find their on-line friends in-game, there is now a “Warp to…” button in the Social>>Friends menu. You just need to select a player from your friends list and click “Warp to <continent>”
- New Weapon: NS-AM7 Archer. Anti-material rifle for engineers effective against Max suits and vehicles.
- Game Communications ticker. We’ve added a new messaging mechanism to the title screen, which allows us to provide various types of messaging; message of the day, game update information, server status, etc.
- Numerous UI optimizations. We’ve made several improvements to the UI screens to reduce sluggishness and increase overall performance.
- Map Optimizations. The delay in loading the map should be greatly reduced in most cases.
- Medic icon should now only show to medics when a player needs healing.
- Rendering improvements to reduce character/vehicle popping during heavy battles.(Less friendlies getting run over)

There is a guide in the OP or you can watch this video, which is really good for starting up. Video is from the PC version, so there is no VR training, map is less detailed, and obvious UI differences. L1+R1 for grandes, hold Options for the exp/certs and other informations menu, and R1 to spot or hold it to get the voice chat options.
One main basic is that you should spend your certs on class upgrades first such as the medic healing tool, engineer repair tool, and so on to gain certs faster for other stuff.

So something bizarre happened. . . I think Planetside 2 deleted itself from my PS4. I came home from work yesterday and planned on playing, and the icon was missing. Went to my library, and it was there, but when I selected it I was given an option to download it. What the hell!! I did not delete the game! Has this happened to anyone else? Its downloading now. Will my character progression be deleted? I hope not, I had just passed level 10 two days ago.

Thanks for the hints and tips everyone and I'll have a gander at the video. So far I have spent all my credits on weapon attachments but I'll invest in some skill stuff next - I couldn't figure out how to revive someone so I bypassed that skill upgrade!
