Platinum explains why Bayonetta 2 is a Wii U exclusive

After TW101? No. Not really? They seem inept at marketing anything that isn't developed by them.
Marketing is more than just advertising. They may have deemed the core audience for the W101 to be the informed gamer so TV adverts weren't going to do much but preach to the choir. Giving it a whole Nintendo Direct, which is something a third party is very very unlikely to get, is another form of marketing. Also, did you like the boxart? Because, again, that's another part of marketing.

I swear to god, the "I don't want to buy a console for one game" line makes my brain hurt.

It's the most stupid, copper answer available, especially since many 360s and PS3s are nothing but Gears, Madden, and CoD boxes anyways.

Your phrase make my brain hurt

I only played the demo of the first on PS3 and it looked and performed like shit.
I really like how this one is looking though and I actually find Bayonetta quite amusing (unlike old Dante)

I think it's a reality, and there may be people that fits your description, but certainly not the majority. Wii U is not cheap, it's cheaper in comparison to other consoles but for the games it currently offers, it needs to drop to $200. People won't drop money for B2 and X because they are not out yet. Maybe some good games will boost Wii U's sale, but it's anyone's guess.
Drop to $200? The system was going for $100 at Sam's Club the other week, wasn't it?

The mental gymnastics of "Why is this on Wii U, it may as well not exist at all" is why Kellams had to explain this.

It embarrasses me how many times Platinum had to spell this out.

Browsing forums, twitter, etc have made me realize just how devoid of rational thought the majority of people we share this hobby with. I feel sorry for community managers, such as Kellams, who have to deal with these people on a daily basis.

Clearance price due to Sam's liquidating their stock. Not indicative of anything else and the deal was extremely YMMV.

i'm happy there was a company out there willing to fund a sequel to one of the best action games out there.

Its more the "JUST BUY THIS ONE CONSOLE FOR IT, NO BIGGY" counter-argument for it being on WiiU, while the idea of owning a totally budget price Xbox 360 is too much for that same audience or putting up with the PS3 port which is passable but not ideal, since you then also have Vanquish, MGR, and Anarchy Reigns perfect versions to enjoy too as such obviously Platinum interested gamers ;)

I do own a 360 pretty much just for Bayo though. That's the only game I still play on it. Doesn't mean I don't want it on as many platforms as possible.

Your phrase make my brain hurt

"Copout" was autocorrected into "copper", my bad.

And no, I was not inferring that the consoles' libraries consist of only that. I was inferring, however, that many people do buy them to enjoy those franchises alone. Heavily anecdotal for sure, but that trifecta of franchises really do make up a significant portion of why people buy them I'd guess.

Bayo2 isn't really a third party game though with Nintendo funding it, it's basically a first party game.

I have had this on my pre-order list since it was announced.

Nintendo publishing Wonderful 101 really made the difference. Wouldn't have sold like it did otherwise.

Just curious, how well do you think W101 would have sold on the 360/PS3 with EA or Activision publishing? Do you also think you would have gotten the same game?

Some of you portwhiners almost make it sound like that niche japanese core-IPs are bound to be successful in the Playstation-XBox ecosystem.

That brings up a good question: I wonder what the first one to test it will be? We've got Ishin, but that may not reach the West (and got middling sales in Japan)

Are there literally no other games on the Wii U ( Released or upcoming.) that interest you at all? There are other games on the platform you know.

Bayonetta 2 isn't enough for me. Maybe later on, but at this point there aren't many games that interest me. Bayonetta 2 interests me the most by far, but even if you add in some other games I still don't want to own a Wii U.

I feel like there are a lot of people in my situation. Don't want a Wii U, but want Bayonetta 2. But that want isn't worth the cost of a Wii U.

They don't need to explain, we already know and accept that.
But and here's the big BUT, no one is gonna buy a Wii U just for Bayonetta 2 which is something they'll have to accept
So it's a double edged sword, the game wouldnt exist if it wasn't for the Wii U and it'll probably sell less because then the original which put them in this position because of the Wii U
Platinum is doing no wrong and neither is Nintendo, Sega are at fault.
But I do hope the game does as well as it deserves, and Nintendo fans buy it.

Its especially hypocrital when you take into account that the 360, is a proven console that is cheaper and has a huge library of similar games. Not to mention its still getting better third party support even with a successor annouced.

Ive said it before and ill say it again. There are some here that don't actually give a shit about the game or the franchise but take a agressive tone about the whole thing because having a game other gamers want is a point of pride to a Nintendo only owner.

I swear these comments read like something the South Park kids would say in the console warrior parody 3-part episode "Black Friday" lol

Grown ass men thinking like this...

It's the most stupid, copper answer available, especially since many 360s and PS3s are nothing but Gears, Madden, and CoD boxes anyways.

The problem is that there aren't-- and likely won't ever be-- enough games on WiiU for me to justify dropping hundreds of dollars on one. There are two games in the platform that interest me. B2 and Donkey Kong. Meanwhile, there are almost no sports games on it, many new-gen multiplatform games are skipping it, and the onus is mostly on Nintendo to try and keep it afloat... something that I'm not terribly confident that it can do, based on having to also nearly single-handedly support the 3DS, as well.

No confidence + plus few games of interest = no sale. Certainly not at current asking prices.

This makes no sense. Why would I be happy it's being made if its not for my platform of choice? I'm not bitching its not coming to ps3/ps4, but since it isn't I don't care if it gets made or not. To me its like its not getting made anyway.

I can't imagine why you'd limit yourself like that.

I mean across the board in all retail stores and online, not once a while. And Nintendo should make the touchscreen controller an accessory in order to lower the price. An occasional discount is not going to push sales volume.

Kingdom hearts isn't comming for wii u or ps3 but i'm not going to sit and moan about it.

When it releases, i'd probably pick up a ps4 or xbox one for it.

The fact that they still have to should tell you everything you need to know about how well this game is gonna sell exclusively on a Nintendo platform.

Why do so many care about this game's sales above all else? Especially when Platinum themselves don't seem to at all?

All this faux-concern over Platinum's well-being is just gross little resentment.

1) last time I checked every one of those franchises have multiple entries. Bayonetta at this point is one game.

2) the type of person who looking forward to Bayonetta 2 is not the type that would limit themselves to one game type or franchise. Its the very definition of a game for a varied taste.

Not everyone is moaning. Thats the problem. Even half the "port beggars" are pointing out honest and sensible observations. To paint everyone with a "wahhhhh! Its not coming to my favorite console..fuck you platinum!" Is disingenuous.

It makes more sense to use Dolphin than to buy an expensive console for only one or two games.

Insted of bitching about ports be happy it's being made. It's not like Nintendo payed them to not release it on other platforms.

.

The mental gymnastics of "Why is this on Wii U, it may as well not exist at all" is why Kellams had to explain this.

It's sort of like - if I can't play it(*), then noone else should be able to play it.

(*) - "can't play it" as in "don't want to buy a Wii U"

My point is that, for those interested in JUST Bayo 2, they can wait for a sale like that and jump in at a dirt cheap pricepoint. I'm not talking about long term sales growth.

Just an observation but I read far more "Do they still have to explain it?!?!" type of posts than actual port-begging posts. For every port-begging post there's like 10 of the defensive Nintendo posts.

I honestly think the port begging is more to save Platinum from releasing a game nobody will buy on a system nobody owns, than actually believing the game will come to other systems.

Its a sequel to a quality game so people at least know what it is. So maybe

It'd be good if it did well, though I fear that it being a sequel might hinder it, especially since the first game isn't available on a Nintendo platform (yet).

Ive said it before and ill say it again. There are some here that don't actually give a shit about the game or the franchise but take a agressive tone about the whole thing because having a game other gamers want is a point of pride to a Nintendo only owner.
Lol ok, sure.

No but seriously, that's a stupid hyperbole and you know it.

The fact that somebody picked up the tab keeps platinum alive for the time being is a good thing but it's been proven that their shit can't seem to sell on its own and I wonder how long they can exist like this.

Why do so many care about this game's sales above all else? Especially when Platinum themselves don't seem to at all?

All this faux-concern over Platinum's well-being is just gross little resentment.

Because it's a business, if it doesn't sell well, which is very likely given the Wii U situation, then it's the end the story. Platinum don't seem to care because they don't have a fucking choice.

Kingdom hearts isn't comming for wii u but i'm not going to sit and moan about it.

I'm actually surprised that Square-Enix has yet to put a Kingdom Hearts game on a Nintendo console. I would assume Nintendo fans would be very keen on Disney.

Bayo2 isn't really a third party game though with Nintendo funding it, it's basically a first party game.

I have had this on my pre-order list since it was announced.

My heart stopped when i had an email from Amazon today "regarding my pre-order"... luckily it was just them reminding me that they haven't forgotten it and don't have a release date yet. Phew.

I can't wait. I'm going to be dreadful at the game but i can't wait for that time to come :)

So, uh, does this game have the potential to do better than TW101 in terms of sales?

It's a lot less esoteric than W101 was, and it's the sequel to a game that's highly regarded by hardcore gamers. I think the potential is definitely there. Whether or not it actually does substantially better, though... man, I dunno. I really hope so.
