PlayStation 2 save icons were Awesome

Just removed the dust from my old PS2 and tried to connect it via PS3 component cable - worked great! Then checked Memory Card browser and holy shit what a great interface and design it is.

And the most shocking thing that I found - I played Final Fantasy X-2 for 251 hours

So, GAF, don't you agree that PS2 not only had the great game library but also amazing interface? Compared to dead PS3 save pictures and boring PMF animations, PS2 is just a gem. Post your screenshots (better videos) of the last games you played on this legendary console.

I used to love these. Many of them were really creative little bits of fan service. Made me want to go to the memory card screen just to see what they look like.
 
It was amazing as some of the icons changed aspect when you were about to delete the saves.
Like a character making a sad pose, amazing attention to details!
 
The low poly save models were a real treat. I used to go into the memory card manager just to see what the icon looked like for a new game.
 
i used to spend a lot of time going from icon to icon and pressing the delete button to see if the icon would change to make it look sad or something.

man, the ps2 was amazing.
 
Everyone is writing it, so why wouldn't I...
Let's start some hashtag movement on Twitter.

I was going to save game screen to see what game had what too.
 
Hopefully SONY has these great little touches in the PS4, no they are not system sellers but just neat touches that people remember.
 
I always wondered how much room those things took up on the memory card, because I spent lots of time having to delete stuff to make room for new saves.

Also, Dead or Alive 2's save icon.

What do you mean? Didn't it tell you how much space it took up? I thought it did.

It was never enough, though. I had like dozens of the goddamn things. I could never find it in myself to delete saves for some reason.
 
Devil May Cry 3 with Lady crying when you attempted to delete it was awesome lol. One of my faves.

I'd be cool if everyone took an image of their memory card data.
 
hated the icons because they took TOO MUCH freaking memory card space.
Seriously the actual save would be some kilobytes and the 3d model would take ~1MB

Yeah for the most part loading wasn't too bad. One game that sticks out in my mind is Timesplitters. I got it at launch and loading maps took such a long time. You could take a dump nd be back before the loading was done.
 
The one i remember the best was the save icon for Ridge Racer V. It was a chibi version of Ai Fukami and she began to cry when you tried to delete the file.
 
I remember as a kid, I always checked to see what the save icon was for GCN & PS2 games (& Wii as well, especially since they'd sometimes have little descriptions for it as well). A rather nice touch to have.
 
Were some of the icons animated? My memory fails me.

I remember storing all my saves on the Final Fantasy 11 hard drive. Never actually bothered getting involved in Final Fantasy 11 however.

I also miss unique save screens. Most games just use the one built into the PS3 OS.
 
Yes, some of those save icons were really great. I still check out my PS2 or Gamecube/Wii saves from time to time because of them. Great way to look back at your play history.

Yes. By all means, get to Shadow Hearts 2. That game is sublime. It's too bad Shadow Hearts 3 is a trainwreck.

I can hardly remember any save data being more than 1MB apart from Gran Turismo 4.
Most were between 300KB and 50KB.

The GameCube ones were just 32x32 icons similar to the PS1.

Shadow Hearts Covenant is one of the most highly regarded JRPGs for the PS2, one of my personal favorite.
Look forward to it!
 
I remember the Okage Shadow King icon being one of the best. Loved how the animations would change when you selected delete.
