i was in GAME at the weekend and people were putting deposits down. No signage outside had prices on as to final hardware or game price etc.
Anyway
People are paying £50 and asking how much remained to pay
GAME store employee "£375 and then games if you want them."
Man "£375?? and how much are games?"
GAME store guy "we don't know yet but ignore the scaremongering"
Man "can i cancel my pre-order?"
Other guy "Yeah i'll still take one, will i get it day one?"
GAME store guy "you should, but if any lorries crash or anything, there's nothing we can do about that"
I was laughing my ass off
No one is showing the hardware price ANYWHERE (that i went to at the weekend!) as to how much it is
Well, I pre-ordered my PS3 at GAME on Saturday (£50 deposit), No 5 at my local store so absolutely 100% for launch day. However, I went in at lunch-time, so they'd only had 4 pre-orders that Saturday morning they started. They have been taking names for the last year and called over 400 people on Thursday and Friday to tell them about the pre-order process beginning on Saturday so was surprised. (EDIT: I know this because I know the manager)
However, March isn't the right time to ask people to flash £425 of cash. I will, because I'm a muppet and can't wait to play online Motorstorm. But I dont know anyone who is getting one or who can afford one for some time. Problem is, I have a few friends with 360s, so I know I can play 360 games online against them, but it looks like I'll be playing against strangers when I get Motorstorm
It's gonna be difficult to convince my mates to cough up the cash!!
I think it's true that online gaming is 'viral' to an extent, and MS's big successful push in this space for the last year will make life more difficult for Sony, as people are more tempted than ever to get the console their mates have already got. It's not just about 'sharing experiences' now, it's about playing online against each other.
