Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

yeah, after a fun weekend of playing with the Move i was excited to chime in on the thread but it's a fucking hive-minded fanboy fest in here. i only had one complaint, the same one complaint the other guy had. but fuck that, what's the point if i'm going to get steam rolled?

anyway, i really like what Sony did with the Move. brilliant stuff. BUY TUMBLE!

Second this

TUMBLE is amazing, cant wait to see what else it will offer

Will this retail at full price or Move price?

So people are just suppose to assumed what he is talking about?

or at the least ask him to clarify instead posting 6 smilies and saying that the guy doesn't even own the controller. then posting his xbl gamer tag as if that has......

you know what? i'm out. peace.

i bought the full game for 10 bucks off of the US PSN store. quite a steal actually.

TUMBLE is PSN, so it's pretty cheap actually.

I personally prefer Flight Control HD myself... so you can consider that game too about that too.

It's not annoying at all, unless you're seriously expecting it to point where you're aiming, in which case no Move game does that, at all.

If you are smart enough to, I don't know, think while you play, then it's easy. "Hey, when I pull the trigger, I'll be in the center of the screen!". That's literally all it takes. It takes a few seconds to wrap your head around, and from then on it's smooth sailing with zero problems, ever. In fact, for a 3rd person shooter it's ideal, IMO, since you always know where our pointer is going to be, and you just move the controller from that point. It's extremely easy.

Good that its not annoying and its easy to get used to. No need to get snarky about 'thinking' while playing. Good controls shouldn't need to be thought about, they should be natural. Natural to me is pointing at an enemy and pulling the trigger. Sounds like you adjust pretty easily though, so I'll see how I get on.

I disagree with your comment about 'no move games do pointing where you're aiming', Shoot does and does it well. Although I am a little concerned about the move's pointing capabilities as lightgun games are an area I'd like to see more of on the PS3, and the wii handles them well, so i'm expecting move to do just as well. But I'm not seeing it just yet - hopefully just teething troubles.

Is TUMBLE availiable on the store in the EU yet?

Could not find it

Whats it's price point?

Yes. go to 'recent games' and I think its on the first screen of results. There are two parts to it - the demo, and the unlock key for the full game. I think its £6.99, don't know what that equates to in euros?

It's 9,99€.

Impressions for DeadSpace Extraction Move = controls really well and very accurate. These games are incoming.. its only a matter of when.

As is, the only genre/game I really want NOW... like NOW is Sorcery. It wowed me at E3 and now that I've "moved".... I can see it being a terrific experience. Shaking the wand to shake a potion and drink it?

BRING IT ON!

How many levels do you get for this

Does anyone know? Did a search for it on google where I am not getting many hits here at work

It doesn't have to point where I'm aiming, but it definitely helps sporting a consistent behaviour, IMHO.

RE5 Move doesn't allow that, by design.

If you are smart enough to, I don't know, think while you play, then it's easy.
Zombies won't wait for you to think, I'm afraid.

I don't think it's ideal, not with this kind of controller at least (as I said it's not consistent, unless you are able to put the Move in the exactly same position all of the time, which is like... very hard), and not having the pointer always on screen isn't helping, too, at least for a player used to RE4 Wii version.

But if you're enjoying it anyway, fine. I just can't help but wondering why the hell Capcom ruined its own control scheme.

Planet Minigolf; Has anyone tried this out yet with Move or is there a patch for it yet?

I wish I could enjoy my Move games and Nav system, but Newegg has yet to still even process my order to ship. Retarded!!

Don't worry mate your not alone, I think the Move is a great piece of technology but I also am concerned with it's 'cursor/pointing' capabilities, I also mentioned a few pages back that I expected it to feel like a laser pen which it feels near to on the wiimote, which feels more natural and intuitive for cursor/pointer games.

I also agree that shoot does seem the best example of cursor/pointer control atm which does give me a bit of hope, I just hope that it is done as well in other shooting games as I love these types of games.

Its patched into an existing game. RE5gold isn't reworked from the ground up, stripping away the standard controls like RE4 wii.

As is, I think it works great. I don't know how you guys are playing it but I played 2 chapters and had no issues. And that's with the dualshock3 as nav con.

I bought a nav con tonight... yet to try it but it wasn't that hard to control. As mentioned in my impressions the only oddity was the sniper/rocketlauncher control scheme.

There were some blatant trolls earlier in the thread that followed a similar pattern and now everyone is overly defensive.

FUCK, right, getting it when I get in from work

Amazing value

I would have bought it at £29.99

What are the reviews like?

IGN gave it a poor review but they were the only ones. Everyone else has only had positive things to say about it. Personally it's one of my favorite games this year.

good news

off home from work now

I'll give further impressions after my night of playing

Hopefully it wont revolve around to many calibration problems lol :D

Was the lighting right in your room

I found that I had a light in the backround and this threw it off a bit

Just switch any lights off that are in the cameras viewable range

Thanks, must be the case... just as well i can adjust my lights or I'd not be able to even play some games at night :/

So anyways now that's out the way... my impressions:

I really like the Move controller. It feels nice and is really comfy to hold. Playing the games in general it's really accurate and easy to use. The only nitpick about the controller for me is the Start and Select buttons. They need to be easier to press in. I have some trouble working those buttons.

Game wise, I think it was as expected for me... there's just nothing in the launch line up I'd buy other than RUSE and Flight Control. RUSE plays really nice with the Move but I'd rather use the Nav-con than the DS3. Flight Control is a cool little game that's addictive.

Tumble is a one button press affair, and will stay calibrated unless you choose to seat somewhere else during playtime of course.

i'm looking forward to trying MAG this evening with move. i tried a couple of games of MAG on Friday evening and couldn't hit the side of a barn :lol

TTP - it seems that the latest version has improved the iron sights slightly. Unless i'm mistaken, they now snap to where ever the crosshair is on the screen (as opposed to snapping to the centre of the screen)

Not sure if already posted...

Dont be so childish mr fanboy.
SC is a party game meant to bring in the casuals so while GAFers may get the hang of very quick calibration the non-gamers, who make up a decent portion of the target audience, will not.

I was being sarcastic, I was the one defending you!
thats what u get for defending people online! Reading comprehension drops to a minimun when emotions run high :)

Anyway, I do think calibration takes gamers out of the experience but its a necessary evil unfortunately if they want to see how wide, your reach and how tall u are in order to give you a better game exp.

Kworn said:
Sometimes I think to myself, why is there a calibration in in the first place?

Is it not intelligent enough to just work

Why is the calibration needed

Calibration tells the system how tall you are, what your armspan is like, and where your center is... It's very important so the system knows how to compensate for you in 3d space.

I personally don't mind calibrating before every sports game... it only takes a second after you've done it 2+ times and it guarantees accuracy to your build. I like it being accurate rather than... whatever you armchair developers would come up with. It has to happen so much because they expect people to be changing around in between matches. If different body sizes aren't accounted for, it could lead to a really broken experience.

This is particularly important though in a game that requires your full body, and full range of movement, and why a game like Tumble only requires you calibrate once.

It's painfully simple, anyone will get it after the second time, and once you tell them they can do it as fast as they want it's no longer an issue.

why are you being so annoying?

deadspace/fps aren't even out.

jeez chill out. Even though the games are not out, there might still be impressions floating around from demos, etc.

I wanted impressions from people on gaf who have played both games, not read ambiguous PR spec sheets on the device. To me it is extremely important whether Move is better than the M+. It is not just enough that Move is fun, or that Wii is fun. Wii even with m+ had some issues. It seems clear that move should do a much better job for tracking large motions. I am also glad to hear the pointer in Move works well.

Why does it matter? These things will determine in some way the future of gaming. most importantly to me is the perception that people have about pointer controls. Pointer controls are superior to dual analogue, yet there are people even in the gaming media oblivious to this fact. Playing shooters on consoles with two thumb sticks is a painful experience. The sooner all consoles move towards superior pointers the better. Better games will come as a result.

I dont see how asking for impressions on the device on the official thread of the device requires such a response. :/

I just got an update from the producer of echochrome ii. He told me that there's 100 levels with three different sets of rules to play. I had no clue about that. This boosts the level count pretty high, lol.

If you missed it, I posted some gameplay videos and impressions earlier. I really like this game a lot...

Yep, I know. I twittered about it as soon as I found out. You can now move the whole gun around the screen during ironsight view. It's detached from the center basically.

They did broke the scoped aiming tho (sniping). It now zooms into the middle of the screen instead of where the pointer is :lol
But I'm confident it's just a WIP bug. They are probably working on having it behave like the new ironshight system (which is *fantastic* btw)

I bought RE5 on Saturday to try this out. It definitely took some getting used to... but after I got it I really started having fun with it... more fun I'm sure than if I would've played this with Dual Analog.

My biggest hurdle was, of course, thinking inside Tank Controls. I would keep running, going to aim, and then looking down at the ground 'cause I still wanted to move.

But, something clicked and now I basically see the game as an lightgun shooter that you can control where the character is. You move around with the left stick, and when you hold Trigger it turns into House of the Dead basically.

I like that the reticule always starts in the center of the screen. It may be weird at first, but once you realize that you always know where it will start, and which direction you need to move it.

This game worked perfectly even while I was laying on the couch, I was still able to aim and comprehend where the pointer should go completely naturally.

And though it seems cumbersome at first to be holding a DualShock in one hand and the Move in another, it's actually way more comfortable than having your hands locked together on a single piece of plastic over your crotch.

After my first weekend with Move, I'm more than willing to try it on ANYTHING... in fact, I wish they would just allow it to be read as part of a DS3 for almost anything. Like, I'd love to just try it on Shatter, or Monsters. But, the one game I REALLY want to try it on (and I'll probably get hate for this) is Bad Company 2...

EDIT: I DO wish RE5 had some level of a Bounding Box, as when you are aiming you still have to use the left stick to look around. That's a little bothersome but I am pretty accustomed to it at this point.

Alright so I'm a Move noob, but I do plan on going to pick up both parts (the wand and the waggle :lol not sure what they're called), but what games should I be picking up to go along with my purchase?

Ive already got Heavy Rain, but I'm pretty sure thats as far as my Move content goes. I hear good things about tumble, but I also don't really want to sift through 20+ pages of comments to find what I'm looking for. Was eyepet worth the money? That one really intrigued me.

Bought my bundle yesterday, my kid loved the eyepet demo, i couldn't really play any demos or SC anough cause my kid was there and he wanted to play everything lol, he's four and he liked it more than i thought he would which is awesome.

Will try to take my time with SC today but so far it's been a great experience with my family.

Sports Champions and Flight Control. Especially Sports Champions.

Definitely get tumble.
Get Eyepet if you have kids.
Sports Champions is great too.

I just got both pieces, and while I haven't played the full versions of most games yet, I would recommend waiting on the Nav controller. I opened mine, then started playing the PSN demos I dl'd, and thought "hmm...I wonder when I'll actually have a use for this Nav..."

It's not that it's not used ANYWHERE. RUSE uses it, for instance. But it's definitely not that common, in the first batch of games. If I could do it over again, I'd get the Nav separately, and either save my $30, spend it toward another game, or put it toward a second Move controller (which seems to be MORE common than Move + Nav, in most of the games right now, although obviously it's not required for anything yet)

I definitely don't have kids for Eyepet, but that thing looked too cute to pass up :lol I don't see much coverage for it, but what's the gist of it? Is it pretty much a tamagochi, but in 3D form?

I will pick up sports champions then and will hold off on the "Nav" I suppose.
