Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

Any way to disable/skip those safety screens on booting up a game? Like, I don´t know, a secret button combination.

No. But there isn't really a big point to doing so either ... They are shown during loading. It's not like it's starting the game, then show the screen and do nothing for a while, show the second screen and doing nothing for a while, and then continue loading ...

the move controllers take ages to charge from the PS3. can they be charged from the mains? i tried plugging mine into the wall with the apple USB plug thing and it didn't work. does it need to be a special plug / voltage or something?

Define ages? I think it's about an hour or so for me, not sure. I plugged it into the PC once and it started charging, Didn't try anything else yet, but normally any USB power source should work?

Well, it is over 3 hours at this stage and it's still not finished. I thought any USB mains charger would work aswell but this is not the case. I might pick up an official charger system as this is mains as well as USB but i was hoping to pick up a USB mains plug eBay for €2 instead of €30 (for the official one)

So far before last night I had only played Sports Champions and a few demos and enjoyed Time Crisis (A LOT).

Yesterday I got the Heavy Rain & Resident Evil 5 Gold Move Patches.

Heavy Rain l You can MOVE! I am so glad they got rid of holding down R1 for walking and let you do it all with the analog stick. I had played Heavy Rain when it first came out and it felt to me like the controls were getting in the way of the experience I wished I could have with the game.

I played through the beginning of the game a few times last night to do all the little things around the house and found the Move controls to work really well. I was worried about what would happen when you need to do quick movements. Juggling had you doing some fast actions and it seems pretty forgiving in terms of doing exactly whats on screen. I won't be playing Heavy Rain with a controller.

Resident Evil 5 l I am completely torn on this game because I really like the pointer controls, but can't get over the run button. L1 seems to be an odd choice as I am pretting L2 a lot more when using the Nav. Controller. Hopefully they will release a new patch to allow you to customize all of the buttons as you wish. It takes a little longer to get used to the Move controls with this compared to Heavy Rain. Im sure its because of the speed and pace of the games, but still..shaking the MoveMote to reload messes with the pointer for a second or so.

Overall the MOVE is Awesome and can't wait for Time Crisis & The Shoot.

I'm 3 opponents from completing the gold cup in Table Tennis, and I can't believe how most reviewers missed the brilliance of this game. The Excite Trucks debacle was nothing compared to this. Table Tennis provides the most advanced gameplay I have ever witnessed in my gamer life. It is phenomal -PHENOMENAL to be able to move around the table as you would in real life, and get on top of that a perfect recreation of your racket movements, with outstanding ball physics supporting the whole thing. One week later, I'm still floored.

Wrote an article about Move calibration. There are two little videos in it, but it's mainly a plain text thing. Will do cool iWatch video about this later toady.

In the mean time, if you are bored...

Good article TTP. the auto calibrating part was very interesting. Like you say, the more the developers use this feature the better.
I'd like to be able to save a calibration to my user account. Height, arm length etc so for games that use that it could just as if it me playing and press the move button at the screen for location.

Interesting read.

Have one question, though.

During initial calibration, do you have to point directly at the PSeye or the TV screen if PSeye is tilted up/down?

I found that it works best to point it at the PSeye when doing calibration.

If you are asked to point at the middle of the screen, just do that. Games like Flight Control HD have the cursor appearing in the middle of the screen, no matter where you point the Move during calibration. So if you point upwards, towards a tilted down camera, you'll end up having the on screen pointer located lower relative to where the Move is actually pointing.

If you are asked to point at the camera, you have to make it so that the Move line of sight falls kinda perpendicularly to the camera lens. But even if it doesn't, game will work fine anyway. No need to be "down the barrel" precise.

I calibrate dfferently. My pseye is on the tv stand - (500-600mm off the ground) and when on the couch, or on the carpet, I post it at the middle of the screen anyhow. I always point in the middle of the screen. Even when standing up for Sports Champion.

That said no matter how I sit/stand, as long as I point in the middle of the screen (52" LCDtv), the calibration works. I can even be on the couch, do the middle point, then move to the floor and calibration works.

Question, I received the patches for High Velocity Bowling and when the game started up it gave me the MOVE warning screen, but the MOVE will not register for this game. I went to the store for the add-on(North America) and it's only for + members. Does this game support the MOVE? if so how do I get it to register and or calibrated for use.

You need to be a Playstation + user and download the update from the PSN Store.

Sony Japan is pretty much dead outside of Team ICO and Polyphony Digital.

They've been a complete disaster outside of that.

They are dead without those two studios. SCEJ is almost completely useless and are most certainly riding the coattails of Team ICO and PD.

Doesn't the Japan Studio do Echochrome as well as Loco Roco & Patapon? They have been making some creative things.

It would be awesome if they made a juggling minigame with 2 Moves. I know how to juggle in real life (only 3 tennis balls, nothing fancy) and that would be a pretty awesome thing to see, even if only as a tech demo...

Is your camera tilt kind of level with the TV? In that case it probably makes no difference. Or in games where the results are invariant with the angle of th e camera.

But very interesting to see what the 'point at eye' stuff is actually for. And that it's nothing to do with calibrating the internal sensors.

Is it like the eyetoy where you simply can't play in the dark?

I unboxed my Move last night and played the Time Crisis demo. After calibrating it the game was working great and then after about 2 minutes the game pauses saying the move is no longer in the camera's range - I hadn't moved and the camera was set to be zoomed out and capture everything in the area. I figure zooming in the camera should solve it but before getting my hopes high I just wanted to check if people are reporting success playing like a vampire in the dark.

Yea so far all the times i calibrated in Sports Champions or Tumble has been to the middle of the Tv and not the camera (which is at the top of the tv) and it works fine. Very easy to calibrate and only needs it once per game.

Btw i d/l the planet minigolf demo from EU and its still not the move version. Is the move version only the one in the US store?

It works even better in the dark, in my experience anyway.

I havent bought move yet, but I have a wii sensor bar on the top of my TV already, will I have an issue with setting up the PS Eye?

If anything it prefers the dark.

Are you sure the controller wasn't falling out of the camera's view?

Wherever you're sitting, make sure the camera is angled to point in that direction quite directly, so that you have a good deal of space around where you're sitting where you can move the controller without the camera losing sight of it. If you're sitting down some distance back and the camera is level or angled slightly up for example, it's probably going to be very easy for it to lose sight of the controller.

Probably depends what you're playing. If you're playing a game that just requires the MOVE to be detected, then darkness should be fine. The orb glows for a reason, after all.

If you're playing a game that also uses your body in some way (can't think of any at the moment--are there any yet? I assume the Shoot doesn't actually watch YOUR BODY spin, just uses the Move/Eye to detect a spin) then you could require a more well lit situation...

I ordered an extra Move controller in the Sony Rewards site earlier in the week but just got notice that they are out of stock.

"However, we do expect to ship your reward within the next 4 to 8 weeks. "

Gah.

Same here - know if there's any way to cancel the order? I'd rather order from Amazon and just apply the points to that.

You can probably just contact them here and let them know you want to cancel. Let me know if it works. :)

Its more or less pointing straight ahead, with slight tilt (nominal up) I do think that because its tracking a glowing spot, it really doesn't matter how you point it? It auto adjusts and is all relative?

The only time I will need to make adjustments (I see) is

the onscreen representation for HeavyRain Move and the reality of where I sit (much further back) so unless I move a metre or so forward (which I'll just grab a chair to) to play.

So, now Move's out, what games are you guys looking forward to next. I'm personally hyped for The Fight. I really enjoyed it when I played it at the Sony Beta Rooms, despite seemingly being the only one. It looks a bit laggy when you watch someone else play it, but when you're actually PLAYING it, it feels very connected to your actions.

My one concern with The Fight is that it uses head-tracking. And for head-tracking to work you're going to need to be in a bright room.

Ouch. I was actually planning on getting an extra Move this way, as well. But that's not a big deal, I'm still a bunch of points short. And I rarely use that card, so all of my points-earning is done by answering their stupid little trivia garbage, hahaha...

Also, is the only OFFICIAL charging station a 2-charge? i.e. Move+Move, Move+Nav, Nav+Nav, etc. But not Move+Move+Nav+Nav?

I tend to like my stuff official, especially when it comes to battery-related stuff...

It all depends on how popular the Move becomes and how much companies support it. Maybe 2K will throw over a New New Carnival Games or we'll see a juggling mini game in Pain where you start off with balls and end up with chain saws and all that jazz.

I want to know..Why hasn't Atlus released a Trauma Center for the Move? That would have been a great launch title!

Go to Toys "R" Us, a friend of mine bought the sports champions bundle and wasn't able to to find a Move controller at any gamestop or best buy, but found them at Toys "R" Us and he told me that they had plenty.

That's if you're in America.

I'm very interested in it, but having 2 Move controllers for a single player game does upset me a bit. It makes me wish they made the Nav have another orb/sensors as well, which would just not light up when not in use, to save battery among other things. But if I had to choose between a tethered analog stick with motion sensors, and a wireless analog stick without them, I'd pick wireless anyway. The possibilities just expand, if you have 2 arms rather than one Move and one "other controller" (with no motion tracking)

Has anyone compiled a comparison video for The Fight, between old and new builds? I haven't really seen ANY videos of it, but I heard the early build was AWFUL, and the new build was a significant improvement. I haven't really watched either, but I'd love to see them side-by-side or back-to-back, in a compilation showing improvements...

Yea, I'd definitely like to see that happen. Never seen/played Carnival Games, never played Pain, but the idea of using 2 Moves to juggle makes me drool just a tiny bit...

P.S.-
I think we should leave Atlus alone. I don't want Trauma Center.

That may sound like hate, but it's really not--when Atlus is responsible for getting games like Demon's Souls in my hands, I want them working on NOTHING ELSE! (Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but I'm fine with Atlus working on projects that I'm in love with like that one, as opposed to Trauma Center which has been done)

This is absolutely the way to do it. Have others been doing it differently? Remember the Move cares about your position not the cameras. You can be anyplace in view of the camera.

Also, for games like Shoot, you need to just casually point at the targets and hold the controller where you will be playing. At first I would hold the Move up to my face for line of sight targeting. However, this threw my calibration off. Now, I just casually point at the targets and it works perfectly. Ya, I am a dummy :lol

As an aspiring surgeon, I would like as real life as possible if even made. A surgery simulation game would have me crapping my pants.

Rayman trilogy has been listed on a French retailer for PS3. It includes Raving Rabbids's. Looks like there'll be some more casual Move titles on the way.

We'll probably see a lot of the more creative uses of Move released on PSN and they will most likely be done by smaller devs. I just hope Sony actually supports the Move more than they do other things they've released.

did they ever updated the demo for Planet Minigolf for Move?

Yes according to the PS US blog, Sept. 22, 2010

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010...es-dlc-and-free-codes-–-all-from-zen-studios/

The patch also includes a bunch of game updates, including new camera controls, a practice mode, 3-player multiplayer mode (both online and local), scoreboard viewing options, improved voice chat quality and more! The demo is also Move updated, so if you want to test it out before buying, download the demo and check that out.

I read the same thing so I went and downloaded it last nite probably around 10pm EST (canadian store I guess?) but when I tried actually starting a course, it said the same tired message that I needed the full game to play with Move.

I'm looking forward to trying the fight also, will probably rent though. KZ3 is top of my list otherwise followed by DS extraction (and hopefully DS2 also!) and finally Echocrome ii

as a note rumor has it (mentioned from a purchasing person for Kmart) that Sony allocated stock to stores for Move and had a maximum shipment for the stores and they couldn't request more for their initial shipment. So it would seem that any stock issues aren't low ordering, but actually undershipment/availability from Sony. New stock was sent out on Tuesday

WTF is up with Planet Mini Golf, the first course had a hole that killed me. You put it into a mining cart or something, but I never did see how the hole goes I maxed out. If you don't under or over put off the ramp, you bounce back and have to take 2-4 puts to get back in front of the ramp for another try? Who's idea was it to have one path to the hole? I thought all hard shots had a backup that was easier, is the whole game like this?
