PMS Rumor: New PSP Model in Spring 2007

A PSP redesign is coming soon and it will have:
8GB of flash memory
built in camera

not to mention it will also be:
smaller
cheaper

If you believe the above then you need to quit video games forever.

manufacuting costs. Lower. economies of scale. Memory stick. New Strategy. Sony. Synergy. On-line. Download service. UMD. Third parties. Strong software sales. Worst kept secret. Redesign. Inevitable. PS2. PSone. Full-Length MP4. 8 gig. MS Duo. Cheap.

These key words will be reassembled into a rebuttal.

Why would they come out with a new camera attachment for a PSP in November and come out with a PSP that's better WITH a camera 5 months later?

That doesn't seem right.

And even with the explanations, I don't see how it could be significantly cheaper with all of those add ons.

This is definitely happening. I don't know about spring 2007 specifically, but they're redesigning it. I reported on it back in April ( http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/41595/ ) and my source is very reliable. The details are slightly different--ie, flash memory rather than hard drive, but flash memory makes more sense anyway. The difference is that my source claimed the new device may not use UMDs, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was changed due to impracticality.

Why wouldn't it use UMD's?? :\

a PSP price drop is more likely than a hardware redesign, especially between now and spring 2007.....

and sony isnt exactly company that rushes out with hardware redesigns a year after launch....the PS2 slim took 4 years to come about, and PSone took 5 years....

as for these rumors from PMS or whatever, it sounds awfully lot like recycled internet rumors from months ago....even the rumor of an 8gb flash/hdd redesign had been floating around since earlier this year. this publication probably just now got wind of it and is running a story on outdated rumors. nothin new, really
