Podcast that you liked and now don't like?

Stopped listening to Weekend Confirmed several years ago. Didn't like the weird shitty music they would during the break or whatever. Also got tired of Garnett's personality. Only thing I really liked from it was Jeff Cannata.
Haven't really listened to the Bombcast in quite some time. Used to be an avid listener, then kind of an intermittent one. And after Ryan passed I haven't really bothered with Giant Bomb too much. He was just such a key component of that place.

Yeah the only reason I still listen to Weekend Confirmed is Jeff. Garnet's personality gets to me, too. I also cant stand how he pronounces things.

why doesn't neogaf have an official podcast of some sorts?

There was a thread about a NeoGAF podcast about six months ago, and I got into contact with a few gaffers with the idea of starting a NeoGAF podcast but we came to the conclusion that it wouldn't be accepted as an official podcast.

Idle Thumbs is the only podcast I consistently enjoy. I think a lack of Sean usually hurts them because he's the only one who doesn't feel he always has to be nice.

Giant Bombcast is still mostly good, but I don't think Jeff makes a good host, and I wish Brad was more like he is when he guests on other podcasts where he has energy and interest.

8-4 has its good and bad casts. The strange obligation to insert a devil's advocate opinion is usually off putting and never interesting though.

While not game related, I'm on the verge of dropping the Tested podcast. There hasn't been anything remotely interesting in tech for a while, and the hosts haven't been remotely interested in doing this cast for longer. It's become the flat, warm coke of podcasts.

Isn't it fucking heartbreaking? The Tested Podcast used to be fantastic. Since the Bermanbraun acquisition the entire site has lost focus and diluted their content. Recently, they began their own "subscriber" service despite the site's community being a fucking wasteland, and on top of that they spit in faces of former Whiskey Members by going back on their word and not giving them a free subscription.

Adam Savage is awful, the day they have him on the regular podcast is the day I stop listening.

I occasionally liked Gamespot Gameplay and then it just sort of disappeared without explanation.

I don't know if it's back and at this point kind of don't care.

The only real problem there is they can't get Gary Whitta on very much anymore.

So they fragment those discussions off, except now they don't have anything to talk about on the main podcast except indie games NO ONE HAS EVER PLAYED, KNOW, OR CARED ABOUT along with the occasional pretentious navel gazing of a more mainstream game they'll admit to only playing thirty minutes of.

You're supposed to listen to Idle Thumbs to learn about awesome games you haven't heard about. There's 200 other podcasts you can listen to if you want to hear about new mega-hyped AAA titles. In the last year they've discussed DayZ, Gunpoint, Gone Home, The Swapper, Papers Please, and Rogue Legacy -- all of which became GOTY contenders at major sites. Many of those games I wouldn't have checked out if not for the spotlight they got on Idle Thumbs. There's probably a half dozen other Steam games I bought because of their endorsement or discussion.

If you're sick of hearing about indie stuff, then the future is only going to get worse for you. This year it seems like many major media outlets were very interested in lauding the merits of the PC indie scene, but most of them were just too scared to award a GOTY to a cheaper, shorter game with a more limited audience. But that slow creep towards indie recognition is only going to continue....particularly as the console scene becomes more homogenized and more devoid of new IP. If The Last of Us didn't exist, I think we might have actually seen more indie titles get GOTY awards.

why doesn't neogaf have an official podcast of some sorts?

Somebody tries to create a NeoGAF podcast about every 18-24 months, but it is pretty difficult for them to overcome 3 main hurdles:

1.) Everyone Skyping in makes it difficult for conversations to have a good flow.

2.) It's hard to make it a true NeoGAF podcast. Which is to say, it's hard to make a podcast that actually has something to do with what happens on the forums. Are you supposed to read threads? Or talk about threads? Or is it just supposed to be another gaming podcast with NeoGAF's name attached?

3.) Everyone wants to be on a NeoGAF podcast, but not everyone wants to show up every week, week after week. Fatigue quickly sets in and new content just doesn't get released that often.

Non gaming dvdasa has grown on me. As for gaming I haven't really liked anything lately. Now whats been getting on my nerves is gaming illuminaughty (name of the podcast) honestly I think that's what pushed me over the edge and had to un sub to mwn.

The GiantBomb podcast. Too much bullshit and off topic stuff. Literally two hours of shite and a few minutes of gaming talk.

I now only listen to Beyond for Colin Moriarty and Weekend confirmed for the multiplat chat but can't stand Andrea, as much a fanboy as you can get

Gametrailer's Invisible Walls took a big hit in the last couple of months, up to the point where they announced it is going to end with the next episode in the worst way ever. On the other hand I really got into Epic Battle Cry lately.

I also miss the canceled Gametrailers Side Mission Briefing which was a very different kind of gaming podcast, with a lot of really cool guests.

Weekend Confirmed for me. I loved 1UP Yours and Listen UP, but I've pretty much given up on this. Garnett works best with equally opinionated cohosts, which he just doesn't have now. Jeff is great, but he doesn't call Garnett out on stuff like John, Luke, Shane, or David would. It's just kinda boring without that dynamic.

I feel Garnett has a career that mirrors Sonic. First several iterations are highly memorable, but then they added a bunch of friends you don't care about. Then every attempt to bring back the "original feel" comes off forced and hollow.

Also, I feel I may get shat on for this opinion, but I feel Jeff's positivity is actually pretty poisonous to actual discussion. Negative opinions get ascribed to the "internet being the internet" and unwarranted praises come almost to appear spitefully contrarian with a facade of appreciation.

My two cents as a listener for several years.

I've pretty much stopped listening to gaming podcasts altogether. The last couple of holdouts were Weekend Confirmed and Giant Bombcast. I used to love, love 1up back in the day and kept listening to the different iterations of Garnett's shows up until some time ago last year.

I listened to the Bombcast remembering Ryan Davis but I pretty much stopped listening after that. I think it's because I've changed over the past year. I also rarely have time to listen to any podcasts at all nowadays with my work schedule.

Another couple of shows in the past that I lost interest in...

Rebel FM- I gave it a shot after the whole 1up exodus but about maybe six months in I realized I just couldn't take Arthur Gies.

Geekbox- When I realized I couldn't keep up with the topics being discussed like comic book and sci-fi movies (I didn't go the movies much anymore) it was pretty much impossible to listen to their discussion without spoiling myself.

The Comedy Button- Bryan Altano. If he wasn't on the show I'd be listening but after a while I couldn't take him either.

The VMX Show/The List Critics, I just got tired of the guy who ran these two after a while and how every episode of TLC turned into "ANYWAYS LET ME TELL YOU WHY EARTHBOUND SUCKS FOR 20 MINUTES IN AN OFF-TOPIC RANT"

Haha, yeah I definitely agree with this!

I still listen to the Giant Bombcast, but ever since Ryan passed, it feels like they've all been going through the motions. There's no passion. Most of the time it seems like they're playing games begrudgingly; only because they HAVE to, because it's their job. I wouldn't be surprised if they came out one day and announced that they're hanging it all up, deciding to go their separate ways and pursue other avenues. If I've learned one thing about this crazy industry, it's that nothing lasts forever. I really feel like the Bombcast's days are numbered. And GB as a whole, really.

Over time, I grew bored of the GiantBomb podcast. Became too predictable, with the obligatory 5 minutes about Dota, and the no-longer-funny "pixel counters LOL" jabs.

I also am wondering when will famousmortimer publish those shows that he hasn't gotten around to editing yet...

I used to listen to IGN podcasts(Game scoop, 3 red lights, Beyond). but not anymore.

Now I listen to Giant bombcast & Weekend confirmed.

Its not so much Ryan's passing that sent the Bombcast into a downward spiral for me, because i felt the podcast lost much of its early appeal and passion, even when Ryan was around.

Brad has not seemed interested in a long time in talking about anything, there were even casts when Jeff commented on him sitting on his Iphone in that booth and sounding like he is half asleep. If it wasent for DOTA 2 he would probably fall asleep right there on the spot.
Vinny became a dad, which is wonderful and he obviously does not have the same time to play games or have the same amount of energy as he used to have.
Jeff has become even more jaded than ever, there is a reason why it always seemed like him and Ryan could only enjoy things ironically. He is still the most entertaining member, who still seems to care about the industry.
And Patrick was never a good addition to that show, he is a great guy, but he never fit in, he would often go on these long speeches that were never interesting

So yeah, the Bombcast. The new consoles were suppose to reinvigorate not just their interest in games but that would also reflect in the podcast. They do not seem interested or excited to me about any upcoming games, i suppose that happens when you live and breathe video games for as long as they have. Their handling of the Xbox One "vision" really soured on me on them as well.

I was even a paid subscriber to their content but it shriveled up, the newer TNTs and all these shows just seem forced "oh here we go again guys".

This isn't what the OP is asking, but I'm in this weird position where I just (as of last week) got WAY into GFW. It's so sad how short lived it was and how long it's been gone, especially since now all I want is to hear the Brodeo's opinion on everything going on in games right now. And hear totally unrelated stories and tangents as well. Hahahaha. I'm gonna try to listen through the entire catalogue I think (I've only listened to about a dozen hours of Best-ofs so far) and download the reunion they had recently.

Honestly, I so wish they would skype up once a week. I need more Shawn, Robert, Jeff, and Anthony in my life (sorry Ryan).

They had a podcast called 'Out of the Game' with Shawn, Jeff, Robert and N'gai Croal (theres someone who I haven't thought about it a while) where they'd talk about everything and anything, books, films, games, whatever. That was intermittent and didn't last too long but you could check that out if you're pining for more GFW ish stuff. Also on Geekbox they have a yearly GFW Reunion show you could check out too where they get most if not all the GFW crew back together.

I used to listen to the giant bombcast but eventually grew tired of all the random talk, and their taste in games is very different from mine.

Nowadays I am only listening to 8-4 and player1.

I used to listen to Weekend Confirmed regularly but I dropped it a few months ago. Too much awkwardness coming from Garnett and Jeff (Cannata). Though I will probably peek in again and see how it goes.

I still think the Bombcast is great but I wish Vinny would be the host. Jeff is usually much better with his funny stories etc. when he does not have to worry about the pacing of the show. Other than that, I listen to 8-4 but I skip the episodes without Mark.

The Instance, not because it got bad/worse but because I stopped playing Wow and ran out of time to really care to listen. Otherwise still stuck in the Frogpants Network of podcasts, not because its particularly informing but because I like the hosts and find them particularly funny.

Yoon is good. He's much more on top of things.

I used to HATE listening to him back when he was just an occasional guest... I don't know if that guy has a lisp or what (where I'm from, we call it 'huevo en la boca') but he's gotten a lot better with that, but I'm not sure I can completely agree with the 'on top of things part'... he's pretty good for the most part but sometimes comes up with some crazy shit (which isn't that bad, its just that he has that same problem so many annoying podcast guests have where they'll talk about something authoritatively and have no clue.)

I miss the Fanboys' Lunchcast, Ryan Davis, hearing John Davison on podcasts, and WAHP (what the fuck, guys? Get back on the horse and ride!)

This so much :/

I invested in the Idle Thumbs Kickstarter.

The new casts are frequent and enjoyable, but I really miss the input from Nick and occasionally Steve Gaynor as well. Steve has his own show now which is very interesting, but the main cast is not enjoyed as much by me as, say, the first 50 episodes. Maybe it's because they rehash talking about the same stuff (Spelunky, Dota, Day-Z, Mario 3D Land) the last couple episodes.

I guess it's because Chris and Nick aren't in the enthusiast press anymore and don't come into contact which as much games as they did in the first 50 episodes of the cast.

Then again there's the occasional gem between all the new podcasts, so I'm not complaining. Better to have Idle Thumbs on a regular basis than no Thumbs at all. That's why I supported the KS.
I feel pretty much the same way. Steve especially brought a bit of an edge to the show that just isn't there anymore. He seemed to have a divergent perspective more often than the others and was always ready to call people out on stuff. Nowadays it seems like the guys fall over each other to explain how much they agree.
Really can't disagree with either of these opinions. And I hate to call anything out specifically, but I've kinda felt myself enjoying the episodes without Sean a little more. I enjoy his input, but I find he tends to overbear on Chris and Jake a little too frequently. He's a great storyteller as well (obviously) but yeah, seems to control the conversations a little too much. The flow from the show pre-KS IMO has just kinda been lost (but we do see it return when it's just Chris and Jake and someone else or whoever).

If you're reading this Mr. Vanaman, I still loves ya, but maybe just ease back a little :)

Having Nick back for only a few episodes was the biggest cocktease ever, too. I thought he was back for a while, but only appearing for a few episodes sucked greatly.

Beyond.

I dunno what exactly happened, for almost a year I had the best time with it, was looking forward for it every week. Then Ryan Clements left and puff, that was the exact moment when I quit.

A few months later I relaized that I don't want to follow Greg and Moriarty on Twitter anymore, maybe I lost connection to them because I didn't listen to the podcast, or maybe I stopped listening to it because I didn't want to hear them anymore.

I respect the guys, and really, I was extremly interested what they are up to for almost a year and I had some of the best laughs of my life with Beyond, but I just lost interest.

Still following Andrew and Ryan on twitter though, they are more relaxed and not so extremly vocal and loud like the the other two.

I can't say I don't like it anymore but I've lost interest in the Giant Bombcast, especially in the more recent months. I would never miss a podcast but I haven't listened to one since around September (excluding GOTY podcasts). I feel they've gotten incredibly cynical and just generally disinterested in video games, it was really bumming me out listening to the show so I decided to take a break. Maybe they'll get more tolerable to listen to once things get going this generation.

Oh, and I stopped listening to Beyond when they fired Roper. Never was the same since IMO.

Came here to post Rebel FM. Pretty much all the same reasons posted already, plus the fact Gies insists on shitting on every region and demographic that isn't his.

Was a hardcore Retronauts fan since day one...but ever since Bob Mackey came on board I have quit the show.

Lasted half way through when they did the Retronauts Live stuff and then tried again with the kickerstarter redux, just can't handle him as host.

It is OK though. I have 100 classic episodes backed up to listen to over and over.

This is Only a Test, the Tested podcast. I used to love it when Gary Whitta was on regularly, and I still listen to the episodes he's on, but I don't listen to any of the episodes with just Will and Norm or Will/Norm/Guest. Norm is grating - he's way too condescending, is stubbornly opinionated even when he's wrong, and is one of those annoying assholes that instantly corrects someone when they say anything remotely incorrect.

Anything, other than SModcast, that Kevin Smith does. Hollywood Babble-On started great, but devolved into 45 minutes of stupid fucking jingles and shoutouts, with 5 minutes of new funny while the rest of the time is made up of the same impressions Ralph has been doing since the show's inception. Jay and Silent Bob Get Old was funny - and then got old. It doesn't help that Kevin tells the same stories over and over again, and usually does it on each podcast he does. Get Old was notorious for the repetition. Since they did a live show and that show went up as a podcast, you'd hear the same stories every episode because it was "new" for that audience.

*edit*
And I know most of the podcasts you guys have been talking about are gaming podcasts, but these are mine.

The secret best Last Podcaster Standing is Chris Kohler.

The Game|Life podcast exists on his enthusiasm. He is genuinely interested in games and the business of making games, new technology and its impact on the industry. He makes intelligent observations, honest critiques, and informed predictions on what the future of games might or should look like.

And he actually manages to do it all in one hour.

Bless that man.

Adam Savage is awful, the day they have him on the regular podcast is the day I stop listening.

the site isn't for the old audience anymore, sucks as the podcast was part of my regular cycle.

I dropped out of everything but the bomb cast sometimes and started listening to old time radio shows.

CAGcast.

I just got tired of the 360 circlejerk the podcast became. Haven't listened to it since probably last December.

The exact same thing happened to me, but in 2011. It's probably the worst podcast I've listened to. At one point they spent more time talking about poop (literally, feces) than games.

Edit: Also Rebel FM. I love Anthony, but Gies.....enough said.

Yeah I forgot to write it, but I actually do listen to this as well. Loved it when he did a one-man podcast on the state of Nintendo about a year ago. So high is his dedication, that even though there were nobody else available, he went on and did the podcast no matter what. Really recommend the Game Life podcast to everybody.

I have enjoyed the new retronauts but IMO it's not as good as the old show. I like bob and ray but am not a big fan of their hosting styles. I feel like bob jumps around way too much with a topic and always takes a survey look at a game or series, and with ray half the time he picks a subject that doesn't interest me. Almost all of the Jeremy episodes have been great as expected.

I traditionally love the Bomb but I'm also starting to feel this way. What killed it for me was when someone (probably Drew or Patrick) wanted to talk about Zelda: ALBW and Jeff was like "Lol, cool, anyway..." and went on to steer the conversation back on AC4: Black Flag for the third straight podcast.

It's a scenario I see slowly becoming a habit with Giant Bomb and it's depressing.

I like my gaming podcasts to be all-encompassing, but it is really obvious to me that Jeff is biased in some areas and what he says, goes.

It's really off-putting.

I listened to some of the newer episodes, but I think it was the Illusion of Gaia/Soulblazer/Terranigma podcast, where only Jeremy had actually played the games.

I was really offput; it was like going to a book club meeting where nobody had read the book. I found this really surprising since the new Retronauts is a funded endeavor. I haven't listened to an episode since.

On the podcast directly after Ryan's passing Jeff sure sounded like he was only plugging the meter. Like he was only in the videogame industry out of habit and convenience. I'm not questioning homeboy's credentials. He's totally legit, on the level, and is an expert on a ton of shit. He just doesn't seem too passionate about gaming on the whole.

Fair play to him, we all go through those phases. I still like the show. Still lots of funny stuff, and plenty of game talk. I reckon it's easy for us to say Jeff isn't too passionate these days when we don't really know him. He IS the dude who, with Ryan, started GB and also the only mother fucker in the world to lose a job due to Kane & fucking Lynch.

He may be bad at sounding excited, but you don't have his pedigree with gaming without being passionate as fuck.

I gotta say, in his defense, the fact that he did that podcast at all is a pretty huge indicator of just how passionate he actually is. I can't imagine how difficult that was, but he grit his teeth and did his best to bang out a bombcast to the best of his ability. Not sure I would have been able to do what he did in those circumstances. I don't blame him at all for sounding depressed; he likely was!

The only real problem there is they can't get Gary Whitta on very much anymore.

This is proving to be my issue. I used to listen regularly but dropped off a while ago. I need the Whitta to inject some humour. They need a third wheel so that Will and Norm have someone to bounce off of and their other regulars just aren't up there with the Whitta.

And I'll bet my house that he's mates with one of the Dive Kick devs. WTF the way he fought for that in the GOTY episode.

He should be a politician.

Rebel FM thread?

It was great when it was the 1up Exodus cast, for like 1 episode. I used to like Anthony, Matt, Ryan, Tyler talk games, but slowly it has become the Arthur Gies show, and I'm not into that. It's a shame Tyler Barber isn't on teh show anymore, he was the only thing keeping me listening. I'm really curious why he left the show, something I read/heard somewhere made me think he wasn't able to take Gies anymore either, though I could be wrong.

The Giant Bombcast was already in a downward spiral, with a crew that had lost all passion for gaming. Ryan's passing killed the little enthusiasm and fun left on the show.

Oh yeah, I've got nothing but respect for the man. He's sort of a confusing dude. He seems outwardly just so worn down and tired from the grind he's been on since he was a kid. He seems cynical.

I honestly think that's just his personality from what I gather from following him all these years. Internally he must be a hella excited, passionate dude to do all the stuff he's done for so long. Some folks just aren't very outwardly expressive, and I count myself amongst them.

I'll say that I sort of find the Bombcast a bit more engaging as it's become more "general purpose", less focused on new releases and more on the dude's lives.

And I'll bet my house that he's mates with one of the Dive Kick devs. WTF the way he fought for that in the GOTY episode.

He well could be. I've got to say, not owning any Sony platforms, that he IS super into Fighting games and DK seems like it really turns the format on it's ear so maybe that's why he's so into it. Could be a little from column A, little from column B.

I know that when I eventually pick up a Vita I want to try DK, mainly due to the Bombcasts' discussion of it.

I can't listen to the Bombcast anymore. Ever since Ryan Davis died, it destroys my mood as soon as I listen to a few minutes of it.
