Politico: Republicans plan massive cuts to programs for the poor

The silver lining is if this gets pushed through, it will mobilise hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people to register to vote against the Republican platform. Never mind about converting the bozos that voted for this, consider them a lost cause. The good thing is that that lost cause isnt an invincible voting bloc.

Of course they do.
They're so fucking slimy and evil. I used to call them evil knowing I was exaggerating.

If this isn't evil (and every other thing they do, while claiming the moral superiority) what is?

The current GOP needs to stop being treated as a legitimate political party and start being treated as the extremists that they are. Now that they have power they are actively trying to kill people. Wake the fuck up America.

Some people need to just fuck off and drop dead, and I don't mean the poor constituents that the republicans are targeting

:/

They'll cut veterans benefits and still a lot of conservatives won't blink. That's how much the Republicans know how their base falls in line.

It also has something to do with the fact that 90 percent of their base would actively support rounding up all poor people and throwing them into camps. In fact, most of the complaints would be why we're spending money on feeding them instead of just shooting them all.

Cesspools like twitter don't reveal outlier opinions, they reveal majority opinions that just a few people are impulsive enough to say out loud.

As usual, the GOP platform is that welfare and safety nets are a-ok as long as you're a corporation.

They'll cut veteran benefits and fucking veterans will continue to support them. I'm going to be a vet soon (getting out in July) and the amount of support the GOP gets from the military is fucking disgusting.

I was luckily able to serve with a lot of left leaning to moderate folks in my unit, but yeah, in general the amount of people in the military that support the GOP is nuts.

Right now I get my healthcare through the VA and I'm using the G.I. Bill to pay for school... I will be beyond pissed if these fuckstains mess with veteran benefits (as will thousands of others and that will surely be a hornets nest the GOP doesn't want to fuck with).

and perhaps even veterans' benefits.

This the same party that got up in arms about Kaepernick though cuz he was disrespecting the military.

Absolutely amazing how they've managed to get people to vote against their own interest time and time again.

But while former Freedom Caucus conservative-turned-White House budget director Mick Mulvaney has tried to convince the president of the merits of such reforms, Trump has refused to back down on his campaign pledge to leave Medicare and Social Security alone. (He's reversed himself on a vow not to touch Medicaid, which would see $880 billion in cuts under the Obamacare repeal bill passed by the House.)
One hell of a party the US has got here.

Don't worry, Tomi Lahren will certainly make one of her yelling videos about republicans and the way they treat veterans any day now...

Sadly, the topic of this thread isn't really news at all.

By that I mean, it's not surprising. The thread is fine.

Everything the GOP is doing can be intepreted in one of two ways:
1. The positive read. Their demographics are shrinking and these changes are their last hail Mary before they can't rely on only white folks to win elections, or
2. The pessimistic read. They are making moves to hold power indefinitely.

It's both. They're making moves to hold power indefinitely because their demographics are shrinking (though the rate isn't nearly as bad as people are suggesting, it's just the minority groups are increasing...well except African Americans, we stay in the 12-13% range because you know the never ending war against us).

In oklahoma the republicans destroyed our economy and they rewarded them by voting for more republicans.

Are democrats running constant ads pointing this out?

This is where the republican party excels.

They place blame on democrats no matter how much they fuck shit up and their dumbass idiot piece of shit base eats it up.

My favorite was McConnel blaming Obama for not sitting down and explaining a bill that McConnel forced through to McConnel and all of its ramifications. I mean, lets set aside the fact that Obama did, vetoed the bill and explained why it was bad and what this opens the US to. Congress's job is to pass bills that they should understand, but no one reads shit. Case in point: most republicans when pressed on the Healthcare bill that passed said they didnt even read it and some not even their aids did.

Seriously, Republicans are the worse. And yet, people are too ignorant or racist to not vote them. Every blue collar Republican who votes against the estate tax proves to me they dont understand shit and buy into whatever the Republicans tell them (unless a coal miner in Virginia has an estate of over $6m at which point I question MY career as I do not have such an estate). The Republican Party and Trump have been telegraphing the "fuck anyone who isnt a white elite" and these folks still vote for them. Trickle down never fucking works AND cutting social programs (you know the things you rely on because of your economic status) to provide tax breaks to the rich and bloat the military even more is fucking ludicrous but people will still support them because they are ignorant and think, after blowing their paycheck on lottery tickets, one day they will be up there. It's disgusting and depressing.

Seriously, when can we label the Republicans a hate group? I mean aside from terrorist activities, how far are they off from some of the organizations that we currently track? They want to control women, force religious beliefs on others, keep minorities in check and force their own beliefs that only help the higher ups while everyone else suffers.

I am hoping that the general fuckery of Trump permanently pushes turnout a few percentage points higher. If so, policy will shift leftwards over time, since most of the public is actually center left.

Whenever turnout is historically high, Dems win. If we ht 2008 turnout every year, then there is a probably permanent democratic majority or at least president. Trump is such a piece of shit, I feel like there is a chance that he permanently shifts electoral odds.

Yeah, I'm not dating any trash that supports this. This isn't just politics or a difference of opinions, people's lives and well-beings are on the line, and it just coincidentally happens to be the lives of the most vulnerable in our society.

Fuck you if you entertain this long-time classic play of the Republican party - meaning you can just blame Trump for this and absolve yourself because "hrrrr I didn't vote for the guy and don't like him either!" This isn't Trump, this has ALWAYS been the Repub party and this nonsense has been going on since most of us were born.

But keep caping for these monsters and preaching "both sides".

This about says it all. Fuck republicans.

You know what's funny? US Republicans aren't Nazis. The original Nazis (aside from being genocidal warmongers) had tons of social programs, which even was in their name: National Socialists. They built houses for the poor, allowed workers who had never before been able to go vacations to do so, their youth organizations allowed children from poor families to get away from home. (Of course the reason for this was to build a military machine to subjugate other nations, but that's not the point here.) The nazis were also the first to make laws to protect animals and the environment...

US Republicans are just anti-democratic, anti-social racists who abuse their power to enrich those who already own almost everything. They are more like fascists, though interestingly, the Italian fascists originally were not racist; they only started prosecuting Jews later on because Hitler wanted them to.

Yeah no, I voted against this and I need these programs, so fuck that. And fuck that kind of attitude.

You ain't the only. I'm trying to get signed up for financial assistance to pay for my meds and other things. And my mother needs to get her disability as well as her own meds too. So yeah, they cut this, I'm gonna be livid.

“I’ll tell you what’s at the bottom of it. If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.” - President Lyndon B. Johnson

I've been worried that quote would turn out to be apocryphal, but it's real. It's too bad LBJ couldn't have just given up on Vietnam, he'd indisputably be our greatest modern president.

Like I have said during the elections, the GOP are bunch of hypocrites at best. They always talk about the veterans and how the democrats prefer helping immigrants over them, but they are always the ones who want to cut out their aid programs. They are always the ones who want to help the rich and push down the poor. It's absolutely disgusting how inhuman the GOP have become over the years. It's not even about seeing different prospectives excuse from white liberals. It's outright evil.

I know 3 military and their blind support for the GOP alienated me to the point that I completely stopped talking to them.

I hope people realize that a balanced budget probably won't be pleasant for you and stop asking their leaders to work on it.

If it was a truly fair and balanced budget that effected EVERYONE maybe. A GOP budget cutting safety nets, healthcare, veteran benefits, disabled benefits, etc with money going to more military, tax cuts for the rich and corporations, targeted racism (ICE, immigration) and a fucking wall? Yea, no.

They are more like fascists, though interestingly, the Italian fascists originally were not racist; they only started prosecuting Jews later on because Hitler wanted them to.
Mussolini said:
When dealing with such a race as Slavic - inferior and barbarian - we must not pursue the carrot, but the stick policy.... We should not be afraid of new victims.... The Italian border should run across the Brenner Pass, Monte Nevoso and the Dinaric Alps.... I would say we can easily sacrifice 500,000 barbaric Slavs for 50,000 Italians....
The entire notion of nationalism is based on the belief that one people are unique, special, and should rightly govern their country. Their nation belongs to their people, and all other people are inferior. A theory of nationalism is only possible with a theory of race.

GOP: Those brown people are on welfare and food stamps. Let's cut them.*

*Doesn't realize most people on these programs aren't brown.

It's pretty amazing how the narrative has been shaped around the "others" using these programs when it benefits white folks the most as they are a majority of this country.

"balanced" budget to conservatives basically means

  • Cut $10B from social programs collectively, dump $100B to the military, another $50B to creating agencies to suppress American citizens, tax breaks for the wealthy.
  • Make some speeches about god, give the bills some fancy names that include: Freedom, Free, American.
  • Run it on Fox News
  • ????

I actually agree with you to some extent, but a balanced budget would also need to heavily involve defense cuts rather than simply disproportionately targeting social programs.
