Considering the supposedly "new ahead off time" iteration of the rage engine, allegedly bigger maps with more npc's and dynamic weather.
Remenber GTAV released and run in a PS3.

This makes the most sense but having split off gta online I'm hoping they go all in. But what will probably happen is cross gen then a year later we will get the PC port as a console optimised version.

It’s going to be a huge game, with massive and dense cities, huge amounts of NPC’s and so much more.

I don’t see how they can pull that off on last-gen hardware without running into CPU and streaming limitations, similar to what happened with Cybepunk.

It’s true last gen still has a large user base but Rockstar likely see GTA 6 as their cash cow for at least 7-8 years folllowing it’s launch, similar to what we saw with GTA 5 so they can easily hit their sales targets regardless.

GTA V was on PS3, PS4 and PS5 and has become the most successful entertainment product of all time due to cross generation.

GTA VI will be on PS4, PS5 and PS6.

I think its very possible that GTA 6 ends up being on old and new gen consoles, it all depends on the install base of the PS5 and Series X around the time that they plan to release the game.

But I would think Rockstar has been developing the game to run on PS4/Xbox one hardware.

This is the correct answer. Why would they care about selling GTA 6 to a few PS4 players when instead they can plan to sell many millions more to PS5, PS6, Xbox 1 Xtreme One SX 720, and Xbox Z One YX 360-2?

21m users hungry for content (probably 30-35m by late-2023), and similar amounts of XSX|S, a lot of decent RTX-capable GPUs... They have a TAM of probably 100 million at the outset, and likely 10-15M sales in the first 6-12 months on top of microtransactions. It's not like supporting last gen doesn't cost them resources (and limit the appeal on current gen).

Yeah, if old rockstar management has gone woke and story\charas are as inoffensive as possible, the graphic\tech prowess remain the only reason to buy their game, if even that is off the table, the thing is gonna be a fucking disaster (relatively, still gonna sold 30 mil at worse)

They haven't put it on the switch because they can't release GTA online on the switch and the GTA online money is all rockstar/ Take 2 cares about at the moment.
