Polygon: The Marvel Games team knows you want a new Marvel vs. Capcom

A straight port of UMvC3 to new consoles (and hopefully PC) would also be awesome, hopefully with a few obvious fixes.

-General rebalancing (i hate morrigan a lot make iron fist good instead)
-Bug fixes (tac infinites were a mistake)
-Revisit H&H (unlocking cards was ridiculous, no offline versus was a big misstep)
-Make the stages work (kill any slowdown or input delay, maybe increase brightness on characters for some of the darker ones or do something to help them stand out against the busier ones)
-Include all the DLC (i mean SF4 did it)
-Brand new in-game tutorials??? (I know it doesn't interest everyone but if you buy the game without knowing anything about it there's literally no indication about stuff like Phoenix Wright's turnabout mode, there's a reason this game didn't do as hot among casual players as it should have)

With changes like these I honestly think Marvel would have the potential to start going back up there with SFV and the Smash games in terms of tournament/stream numbers.
That all depends on if Capcom is allowed to make any changes. At they very least, Marvel may sign off on all the DLC being included if a UMvC3 remaster were to happen.

I'm not saying that Capcom wouldn't try to get those characters. But given their current standing, I doubt that they would have much of a say on the matter (especially with Marvel being as big as they are, now). As stated before, I'm sure the guys at Marvel Games are cool about this kind of stuff, but the main problem are the higher-ups at Marvel Entertainment.

Yeeeeeeeah I know, I'd just really rather treat it like a cautious "let's wait and see" thing than an accepting of the inevitable. The ban hasn't been around for long and we don't know all the ins and outs of it nor do we have any idea if it'll still be going like this by the time we see another MvC game.

So you're holding out hope that maybe Capcom can use the MvC legacy to their advantage. Hopefully more people become aware of the ban to where they can make some outcry against Marvel to, at the very least, make an exception for Capcom.

I only really care about X-Men characters, mostly. Otherwise I want Capcom vs Capcom.

But Marvel will probably push the big bank, Capcom will go hard af and MvsC4 will be fire, either way.

Great to hear. Reading between the lines, it definitely seems like something is in the works.
I'm not sure how you're interpreting it as such. It honestly sounds as though Marvel Games is open to do another MvC game, but nothing concrete is happening at this moment. They could be in early talks as far as we know, but I doubt that anything is set in stone right now. The best we can do right now is wait, see, & speculate until we either hear something official or if we get a leak.

If there ever is a MvC4, I really Hope they start pulling from some of the newer standouts in the Marvel line:

Thor
Black Panther
Ms Marvel
Captain Marvel
Squirrel Girl
Like Cage
Daredevil

Bingo. For as bad as "where the hell is Mega Man" was I'm sure "where are logan doom sent jean storm deadpool and skrull" would be a lot worse and I'm really hoping it'd be enough to sway some opinions among the higher-ups.

But again, I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world to see the game made under the ban. We'd still be able to get all the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Dr. Strange characters, Ghost Rider, Guardians, Iron Fist and a bunch of others, and like people have mentioned we could still see some divekicks and finger-lasers through replacement characters (Ultron copying most of Doom's moveset, Black Panther copying Wolverine's, etc.). It'd be pretty blatant and kind of tacky but it's definitely a sound alternative.

See, that would be the logical way about it, & what I'd hope would be the case. But the problem here is that Ike Perlmutter is one of the most stubborn businessmen out there. From what's been said about him, he's not exactly easy to sway.

well that's certainly interesting

Yeah, gotta keep the hype alive. Hopefully UMvC3 on EVO maintains said hype (it was interesting to see someone new take home the trophy, last year).

Generally, I've been pretty hyped watching UMvC3 tournaments lately. Still can't forget that one time how Justin Wong won at EVO.

And I'm among on the top poster in thread? And I only made around 10 posts here lol.

The ban is only stupid for the consumers, sadly, it makes tons of sense corporate wise.

Fuck capitalism in that regard.
True, but wouldn't it make more sense to flood the market with your version of the Fox characters so that you can go like "Hey, we're treating the X-Men & Fantastic Four with better respect than Fox."? Again, this ban also makes sense from a business perspective, but it seems very short-sighted to me.

And it really is.

To think, they COULD be doing the damn thing with making sure the X-men and FF are well taken care of in video games, cartoons and the like. Drive up support and perhaps do more to force Fox's hands, because the general public would be more on Marvel's side (which wouldn't be hard to do, especially after Apocalypse and the recent FF disaster).

But instead, we have two favorite superhero teams stuck in limbo outside the comics, and an Inhumans push that has yet to really bear any fruit in the way they wanted. It's just so sad to see.

That only would work with long time fans, Movies are about capturing the casual audiences, which is what marvel wants, they need to expand and they do so by targeting people not already in their pocket.

Think about when the Green Lantern movie launched, there was a moderate outrage from african american demographics who didn't even know there was another green lantern other than John Stewart due to the Justice League cartoon.

That's the kind of people Marvel wants to capture, casuals that can be turned into hardcore fans, and that's why the ban exists, they don't want that demographic to have awareness of the characters as long as fox owns the rights, doing a great job with the characters in other media won't make people go "look how much better marvel uses FF/X-Men! Fuck Fox!" they will make them go "Oh im enjoying this FF/XMEN media, so i'll go see these [fox] movies!" and thus that's more money for fox and less chances of them letting the license go, Marvel can't have that.

It's bullshit, i know, it fucking sucks, but sadly that's how it works for now. As it stands, hurting awareness is the only thing Marvel can do to weaken Fox's grip. That and hoping Fox makes shitty movies like the latest F4.

I guess I'm speaking from the perspective of a life-long fan, hence why I feel the way I do. The way you described it, Marvel's ban makes perfect sense in swaying the average joe into a certain direction. And unfortunately, it's working. My cousins for example knew immediately who the likes of Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Black Panther, Star-Lord, & Rocket Raccoon were. But sadly, they were drawing blanks when I asked them about Wolverine, Doctor Doom, & Cyclops (I had to educate them with comics). It's a shame that it had to come to this.

Just think of it as a transition period, when fox finally lets those licenses go, you can bet your ass there will be a grandiose relaunch of all those characters and in no time we'll be seeing wolverine everywhere like it's the 90's and early 00's!

But that's if Fox lets go. While I can see it happening for the Fantastic Four, the success of Deadpool pretty much confirmed that Fox isn't letting go of the X-Men anytime soon.

Hell, I'd be completely satisfied with a port of UMvC3 with balance changes. Just give me something

On PC too. My cabinet craves all the fighting games...

This post took a bit and went too far under the radar.

As soon as I saw it I wanted to post that MvC2 intro video from NCR where they swapped in the character select music with that record player scene from The Shawshank Redemption.

I can't find it anywhere :(

Good to know that they hear our cries.

The Marvel franchise under Capcom was a legendary childhood series for me starting with X-Men Children of Atom.

They ought to just use Marvel's 3 phases for a basis for a fighting game so far, and add more the further they are down the road.
Avengers (old and new)
Guardians
Netflix/TV Series
is already a great cast. Shame X-men may never be included
