Polygon's marathon Xbox One live stream

That's completely besides the point and is actually the opposite of the discussion. We're talking about console being controlled by devices, not consoles controlling other devices.

HDMI-CEC is not a guaranteed solution.

Kinect being an IR receiver as well as a blaster means that remotes can be created or software/firmware upgrade to be directly compatible with it like Logitech are doing with their Harmony remotes which they hope to be compatible on day one.

you do realize that Harmony will work PS4? In fact most TV's and their remotes sold in past 3-4 years will work on PS4 as they have HDMI CEC.

You have no need to wait for "next year" or firmware update or buy extra remote. It will just work.

I wonder if you ever had HDMI CEC compatible device in your house... my buddy's cheapest Panny plasma from 2 years ago has it and it controls Sony BD Entertainment center without any need for any settings. It just works all together.

As to the comments, those trolls dont own Harmony or they would know that it works, haha.

repeating the same voice commands will be infuriating

You will just do the same thing you do on 360... use the controller.

It won't. It doesn't have IR, so additional hardware is needed much like on the PS3.

Yes but there is no denying that this UI is clunky as hell when using a controller and clearly designed with voice in mind. Its pretty much a universal feeling from every review ive read. While the PS4 UI may be simple, at least its nice and quick, getting in and out of stuff nice and snappy (no pun intended).

Also, why is Aaron Rogers built like a fullback?

Problem is I have heard a bunch of people saying the ui is not great with the controller. a lot of things are buried. Even though voice isn't great they seem to have built everything around voice.

I guess we shouldn't blame them. Maybe this is why they can't tell a difference between 720p or 1080p.

Come on guys you cant come up with a single thing the ps4 has that the xbox one doesnt'?

I hate hearing the game opinions of people who pretty much only play sports games. The Verge people are the perfect example. They just...don't know anything.

Hm. So snapping in and out of a game gives you no warning that you are about to abandon a game without saving? Not great.

Skype video calls aren't snappable? Why not? That's probably the one thing I'd find useful for snap though audio calls are fine too.

Madden didn't look so great. Voice commands barely work, and snapped apps chug along worse than my laptop from 3 years ago. I was interested in the concept, but I'm waiting for way more games and probably a price drop if this is how they choose to release their product..

You have to be joking me.

Nope that is what they said and what other people reported. It darkens the picture and adds a little processing to it (you can see a little more ringing around logos and stuff because it slightly sharpens the picture) and any 5.1 audio will be downmixed to stereo.

There is a 5.1 audio beta setting which gives you a warning that it will further degrade picture quality.

This HDMI IN is useless. I knew it.
