I looked at a 75" 8k 2300 nit display at Frys Electronics and up close yeah it was amazing.

Back up about 3 feet and I couldnt tell the difference between that 8k display and the 4k OLED sitting next to it.

Now the 2300 nit brightness wow, couldn't even look at really bright scenes but sure was vibrant.

Were both TVs 75"? The 8K and 4K models that you were looking at?

Could it be the content maybe? Right now all 8K tech is early, including the codecs/software and the silicon that power this. Moreover, we should see the codecs targeting 8K take off and compete sometime next year.

Super cool that Fry's has 8K sets on display. May I ask which Fry's in the general area?

The 8K was 75 and I think the 4k was 77.

It was the Frys in Fishers Indiana just outside of Indianapolis.

The guy there claims the content was Native 8k and I asked how it was showing through which input and he wouldn't say which I thought was odd.

It's usually playing from usb/internal storage.

Yea, that is questionable. We are just now getting the gen 9 LG 4K sets (released last week) with the new HDMI ports and still missing features promised by LG at CES in Jan 2019. There is just so much still in development.

That's why I said it only need to have HDMI 2.1 full bandwidth. It will support 8k and perhaps 6 years from now some (Netflix? YouTube? Blu-ray? Games?) 8k will be available.

Why are you so out after 8k support? If you want those resolutions so extremely then go for PC.

16k gaming!

I don't get people complaining about 4K. I mean, even with entry level 4K TVs (as long as they're not completely fucked up WRGB LEDs like last year's LG's) you get a very decent image boost compared to FHD.

I'm not. I don't even have a 4k TV.
8k is a HDMI 2.1 spec.
If PS5 has HDMI 2.1 then PS5 "supports" 8k, is it that hard to understand???

Uhm, is it that hard to understand that HDMI 2.1 alone is not enough?

An 8K framebuffer will require 4x VRAM compared to 4k. Rumors say that the OS will only have 4GB of RAM. Is that enough?

We also know that PS4 Pro allocates an extra 512MB of RAM to provide a native 4K UI (I guess they need it to sell themes on PS store).

XB1X and Switch don't waste precious resources (console memory) on bells & whistles:

Edit: wrong thread

With ReRam you wouldn't have to load a game because the game would basically be in main memory & there is other benefits & from the look of things Crossbar & others are preparing ReRam for the mass market

I have zero hype for the PS5. I still love my PS4 and there's so much content available you can't keep up.

Kinda feel like Sony is going to have a problem moving their user base to a new console unless there's a legit reason.

Call me anti-consumer but backwards compatibility feels like a mistake that Sony is making.

From PS3 to PS4 there was a significant upgrade in graphics. With PS4 Pros already 4k it feally feels like a fairly minor gap in hardware upgrading going forward.

I'm also the asshole naysayer who'll probably be a Day1 buyer but as of right now I'm content with what Sony is doing.

I figured it was along those lines but when I asked though it was weird him saying something along the lines "Not allowed to say." or maybe he just didnt know and didnt want to sound ignorant.
If go with the latter.

In richer sounds where I usually shop for TV's etc the staff know all the nitty gritty and usually stick their own drives in a each specialises in specific brands.

It annoys me when I go to currys etc and the staff know less than what's written on the card in front of the TV.

I felt like this with the PS3 then started running around like a maniac for a week after launch trying to find a ps4 in stock.

Seeing as Sony put in a half-baked effort in getting more backward compatibility on the PS4 compared to Xbox (Even to this day getting a chance to play Jade Empire, Burnout Revenge, Ninja Gaiden 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta is still as good as ever..) hopefully they will go back even further when it comes to PS5 and backward compatibility... how awesome would it be to be able to play the Ridge Racer series from the PS-1/2 days in all 4k/8k glory!!
