Predator: This Thread Ain't Got Time to Bleed

What I like so much about the movie is the end battle. When watching movies, I sometimes imagine what I would do or how I would feel when I was in the same situation as the main characters. So for Predator I thought: holy shit, me fighting an alien which is superior in every way, in hand to combat. That is just so sick. Just imagine.

You are a funny guy, Blablurn. That is why I am going to kill you last.

Sulley!!! Sulley!! :D

Edit: I like 80's movies so much, especially action movies. Those movies had way more atmosphere and tone than the modern movies. Or maybe they don't and it's just that I saw those movies when I was a little kid, when there was not a care in the world :(

It came to my attention that my gf had not seen this movie last week. I shall correct this grave injustice shortly, as the movie is at the top of my Netflix queue. I also introduced her to Aliens, so she is slowly becoming more civilized.

Phonciple is fucking buck. Screw watching some John Ford filmography or some shit, Arnold's where it's at. Keep making these threads man.

Manliest handshake and most psycho cast ever. This film was like the Oceans Eleven of badassery. If this cast got into contact with the one of Expendables, Predator would still come out on top.

Such a good film, gets watched every Christmas Day night right before sleep, just like Die Hard on Christmas Eve, thank you McTiernan.

The one thing I hate about this film is that Billy deserves a good death! We see him draw his machete and stay behind to fight the Predator on the bridge, yet never get to see what happened to him. He deserved at least a few dozen seconds of taking the fight to the Predator, before the inevitable happened. Similarly, in Predator 2 King Willie has a bad-ass stand-off with a Predator, he's also got a bad-ass sword so presumably shit is about to go down - but we aren't party to any of it, as the next time we see King Willie, he's missing his head.

Arnie was a fucking BOSS back then. Also, wasn't Sonny Landham like, really nuts? I heard he was on watch the whole time he was on set.

Yeah they hired a bodyguard to watch over him because he was scaring the shit out of everybody on set.

The secret to Predator was in the character development. The action was terrific, the suspense, the story, everything was great. But you really cared, you really payed attention because you cared about the characters and the character interaction.

haha, okay guys. u got me. i just finished watching! really a good movie. didn't expect it (to be honest)

but i liked it. especially because it wasnt so CGI heavy as current movies (yeah, RIP Stan Winston :( )

really enjoyed the last fight between arnie and the predator. good stuff.

btw, the woman was hot.

best action movie of all time kids, featuring some of arnold's best dialog ever put to film:

does you cabinet minister always travel on da wrong side of da border?
...so you cooked up a story and dropped da six of us in da meat grinda!!
what's with this fucking tie business.
so da cia got you pushing too many pencils
we're a rescue team. not assassins

and then those cheesy jokes,

the other day i went up to my girlfriend, i said to her "i'd like a little pussy." she said, "me too mine's as big as a house."
I was going down on my gf, i said to her, "geez you got a big pussy, geez you got a big pussy".......see the echo

and mac's best line:
you're ghostin' us, motherfucker. i don't care who you are back in the world, you give away our position one more time, i'll bleed ya, real quiet. leave ya here. got that?

It amazes me that no one has come close to replicating the badassery of this film, and it's been almost 24 years since it came out. The hum of Blaine's minigun is a beautiful sound that I'll never forget.

One thing I loved about this movie is how some characters who typically play villains get to play heroes. Bill Duke and Sonny Landham (remember him from '48 hrs'?) as the more notable ones. Also, it was quite a twist in the end when
Arnie squared off in the fight with the Predator and promptly got the absolutely piss knocked out of him.
For Arnie in the 80's, that was a stunning development.

I know it is Sulley. I was just merely commenting on the fact that Blablurn had never seen the movie before.

YAY! Welcome to manhood. Have you shaven the beard off that inevitably grew from watching this film?:D

Amazing to see how shit McTiernan's career has become. Same goes for John Carpenter. Like wtf happened to these guys?
McTiernan did solid work on "Die Hard With a Vengeance", "Thomas Crown Affair", and "Thirteenth Warrior." But he did fall oh so far with "Rollerball."
Carpenter has never been the same since the late 80s.

It doesn't matter what either of them did poorly late in their careers. They are both immortal just for the cluster of fucking awesome films they did all in a row.

:lol Yeah, I remember thinking "Oh, it's about to go down. No more weapons, just Man vs Alien. Here we go!" and then a couple minutes later "Damn, Arnie got treated like a bitch"

She's your baggage! If you fall behind, you're on your own!

JCVD was the Predator first but he pussed out and Kevin Peter Hall came in to finish it. Just as it should be, JCVD is too weak to be in a flick with these MEN!

Fixed for accuracy.

But JCVD was awesome back in the day. Bloodsport still kicks ass!

You'll never look anything close to Arnold in his laziest days.

The lesson here is to never try.

considering he is a fat whale now, and these have been his laziest days, that's definitely true.. something I'd want to hold true for a long time.

That's the whole point of the scene actually. We all know that Billy is a decent fighter, and we all think that the fight is going be epic, but the predator is just so deadly and awesome that he quickly owns him and 30 seconds later, snipes the guy that Arnold is helping in the head.

I think Arnold earned his right to eat cake all day long. He was Mister Universe like 7 times or something. He can relax :P

Hahaha. Alone at home, laughing at 'yeon yeown'. For some reason I just couldn't wrap my head around that part. For me it was clearly chinese.

Love the theme

An interesting piece of trivia is that if you listen to the Back to the Future soundtrack it sounds a lot similar to the Predator soundtrack (and yes they were both done by Alan Silvestri). Sounds like he plagarized off himself like how James Horner did in Star Trek II and Aliens.

The bar was raised too high. Nothing can top Predator.

PhoncipleBone, you've made two great threads about two of my favourite films of all time. Thank you.

Here are some scenes that are just too full of manliness to repeat today:

- Dutch infiltrates the guerrilla base - and in a fit of genius - decides the best way to start the attack is to put a satchel charge into a truck, lift the truck off its cinder blocks, and let it drive itself into the mess hut. Trojan horse of sorts. And keep in mind, his buddy Poncho had a grenade launcher the whole time. Why not have used that, Dutch?

- Blain gets disemboweled by the Predator; Mac sees his friend go down, picks up the mini-gun and shoots the jungle to all hell and back. Without asking any questions, the rest of the team just joins him in the fury.

- Dillon gets his arm blown off, and still tries to move around to get a shot at the Predator. in-slo-mo, which is just too slow when you're fighting a Predator.

- Billy's remarkably awful (for him and his team) last stand.

- Poncho's "I can make it" grunt... 2 minutes later the Predator snipes him.

What I like about Billy's last stand is that it is so horrifying we dont get to see it. It is the only team member death we didn't see happen. Everyone else got an on screen death, but the Predator fucked Billy up so bad and so fast they couldnt show it. At least that is my version.

And if you like this thread, there are Conan, Predator, Commando, Total Recall, and now Running Man threads.
