Holy fuck. How annoying is this? I just did it twice. Does anyone else do this a lot by mistake?

How can I solve this problem?

I don't have that problem. I used to accidentally paste huge stuff in chats or IMs all the time though. Since then I always keep around a clipboard program to delete the contents of my clipboard regularly.

It's actually become an extreme compulsion. I have to make sure it's empty probably once a minute. I can't stand using other people's computers since they don't have my clipboard program bound to windows+f12

I keep hitting ctrl-N when I want ctrl-B in MS Word. Word then chugs while it opens up a new window when all I wanted was bold text.

I know on Linux you can directly change and create any keyboard shortcuts, although I don't not whether or not it's possible on Windows (which I presume you're referring to) but I'm certain there's at least programs to do it.

EDIT: This might be the kind of thing you're looking for: http://www.autohotkey.com/

What happens when you press Control + C?

It copies the text you highlighted when you wanted to paste what you highlighted before over your newly highlighted stuff became the copied text. Now what you will paste is what is currently in the field, which is what you were trying to replace in the first place!

Then you have to go back to what you pasted before and Ctrl+C it all over again!

Fuck.

Edit: That is, when you hit Ctrl+C instead of Ctrl+V (Which is very easy to do)

When you want to paste something, you normally don't have anything selected, right? So pressing Ctrl+C then shouldn't do anything at all?

Unless you want to replace something with what you have copied, I guess.

Paste before you delete. If you Ctrl-C nothing highlighted you still have the original thing you copied.

My Citigroup co-workers didn't know about this, their minds were blown when I told them. :lol I'd probably kill something by now if I had to click twice every time I wanted to open something in a new tab.

Oh wow, Control+Shift+T is awesome! I accidentally close tabs out of compulsion all the time, I kept using the menus to bring them back.

The Anti-shortcut

1. In the Firefox address bar, type about:config
2. In the search box that appears, type browser.backspace_action
3. On the right, double click "0" in the value column and change it to "2" in the dialogue box that comes up.

This cancels the backspace 'go back one page' keyboard short-cut. Which can be quite annoying here on GAF if you accidentally click outside the text are when writing a reply and hit backspace.

Linux middle mouse click is nice in ways. You highlight what you wanna paste then click where-ever it needs to go. The amount of times you highlight shit twice before you paste is about on par with ctrl_c errors.

I know a huge one for me was CTRL+ENTER. In the address bar in your web browser just type "neogaf" and press CRTL+ENTER. Boom.

Also, IIRC ALT+ENTER in the address bar does the same but with a .org extension.

What I love in the middle-click-paste is that you can have two different things on the clipboard at the same time, one for ctrl+v and one for the middle button. I use it all the time, paste text with mouse and use ctrl+v for the image etc.

I love the PuTTY select then right-click function. Highlighting text with your mouse acts as Copy, right-clicking is Paste.

I use Shift+Insert to paste in windows =\

If you just hit forward before doing anything else doesn't it just go back forward to the reply page with your text in tact?

It does for me, just tried it with this post.
