btw, just started the master league with bayern. the new style is awesome. and i like the extended manager options. so good.

When I play football games in a manager capacity my first buys are usually defenders and goalkeepers simply because I'm of the mindset that the two CBs and a defensive Midfielder are the backbone of any team - if they are shit then your team is going to be fucked.
I know how to defend, I've seen more cleansheets than I can attest to in both PES & FIFA over several years. But eh, if you want to go on some moral crusade to try and defend the pitiful excuse for a game FIFA still is, then by all means. That doesn't excuse the fact that behind the bells and whistles FIFA is still the game for peasant dogs such as yourself.
This is the "how to lose to woodchuck" strategy. It works pretty well against most players, but not the skilled patient ones. I dunno, I defend in FIFA pretty much how I always did in PES, which is to press with the CPU and guard against the pass myself, usually using jockey to limit the options. Really don't notice much of a difference in standard defending between the games other than the slide tackles. People come up with the fucking craziest, most hyperbolic statements with regards to these games I swear (yes, yes on both sides).Magicked said:

I'm not the one sitting here announcing the other game is a pathetic game. That's you. PES does alot of things I wish FIFA did. I'm the one saying you clearly haven't come to grips with FIFA because, for one, you wouldn't be so bad at defending and, two, you would realise that it's not a bad game in any way.
I'll take the popular view on this one and just say look at what the sensible, unbiased majority have said. FIFA 10 is a fantastic iteration. You're allowed to hate it, but don't patronise all of us by announcing it's a shit game when, as we can all see, it's CLEARLY not. The fact that you suck at it is amusing, and I hope you find a way to quell your butthurtness whilst wallowing in your puddle of inferiority.

Worst. PES. Ever.
Unrensponsive controls - takes waaay too long for a player to pass/shoot the ball and to turn around.
Bad judges - they call a foul for simple pushing but when an opponent repeateadly tackles my player they ignore it.
Clairvoyant opponent players - they just know when to turn and avoid a tackle.
Retarded teammate players - perhaps this can be fixed with tweaking the tactics setting but so far they are as stupid as a rock,
All of those combined make playing PES a very frustrating experience, and when I play, I don't wan't to be angry all the time, I want to have fun and a stupid grin on my face. That's why I've decided, with heavy heart, that this year's PES is a POS and that a quick uninstall is the only merciful thing I can do.

I've been a FIFA gamer since 07 and when you play that much, you recognize how overrated the franchise really is.
If I had it my way, both Konami and EA should pump out a world class game. But what's the chances of that happening?

Well, I'm about to switch over to PES too. I played Fifa 09 like crazy, but Fifa 10 just makes me mad with how perfect the CPU AI plays. Been playing a lot of the PES demo and just having fun, win or lose.

This is totally ruining the game for me, nevermind the "little" things (CPU AI, missing all that resembles a custom setup -you can't choose referee and the ones you get are fucking harshly dumb- no flags, fireworks or anything resembling a proper home/away match with more/less supporters based on that and so on and on).

Could someone explain why FIFA is considered the superior game? I downloaded the demo for both games this weekend and from the little I've played Evo seems better.

All it was good and well up until a few of years ago, because the couple of times a not-so-good-as-before PES was born, you knew that at the very least there was going to be an improved Winning Eleven Final Evolution JPN down the road, making for the perfect footie sim. Now even that it's gone :/

I think this Fifa is the best yet....but I still don't have that much fun playing it......I enjoy PES 2010 more.
I've spewed in 20 hours within the past 2 & 1/2 days. Had a little dabble with Champions League, some Exhibition games with the lads last night, and now trotting into Master League proper.
Overall I enjoy it quite a lot, which is coming from someone who skipped last year's effort. Just a few cons though:
- Defense is quite easy even on the highest difficulty rating. 20 games so far in 1P vs COM matches and I've only conceded 4 goals, the highest amount in a single match being 1 goal.
- Control takes awhile to get used to but once everything sticks together it becomes a lot easier i.e. through-passes are usually a joke unless you perform it at the correct moment; I blame FIFA for spoiling me with almost 100% precision through-passes in FIFA 10.
- Most shots from outside the box pack a lot of wallop, which is a fair action considering the situation, but when a striker is sliding down on his arse and is able to whiz the ball past the opposition's goalkeeper then something is a bit strange.
- This damn game is going to track how much time I invest into it throughout my Master League and drunken Fri/Sat night sessions. I've already shoved 20 hours into it within the last 65 hours or so.. granted it's been a weekend but that is still frightening.

I was at candy arts' place yesterday and we played a few games of PES09. I have played it more, he hasnt played since WE10. First game (he was Atletic Madrid, I was playing Boca Juniors) he won 5-1. Slightly embarrassing. The rest of the games we played as those two teams or Argentina vs Germany were either 3-2, 0-0 (5-4pk), 2-1 and 1-0 from memory.
I would say if you are a football nut and play online heaps, get fifa for authenticity, kits, players, online service etc. PES is a bit more accessible gameplay wise, and it lets you pull off some really cool stunts.
Cases in point: last year kanga came down to hobart, and chaos, myself, tex (matrixgeek) and juz had some fifa games. Kanga is a savant at the game and we all got smashed by him. The rest of the games we had were either even or blowouts, but all good fun. But from my experience PES is easier to pick up and play even against an expert. Kind of like Virtua Fighter.
Online: fifa.
Single player: PES
Local multi: either of them
Thats my opinion.
