Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 - The Official Thread

It looks like new transfer rosters are being released for the Japanese version of the game.

I guess the tokyo team is actually on top of things. Localization team to blame? or UK version roster update is out as well?

Does the ref have an on-field animation for this?
No. He could move like a real referee and have some motion in his arms telling the players to continue the play, but no.

Didn't the PS2 have that animation in for the refs? I thought it was in PES6/WE:PES 2007

I think it did, yeah, but maybe I'm mistaken. The thing is, we wouldn't even need the animation if they gave us the icon. Just think about it, PES was the first game to feature it and then, for whatever reason, they decided to dump it. Now, FIFA has both the icon and the animation... screw this, seriously. How lazy are those guys? A fucking yellow icon and they can't get around putting it into the game.

Disclaimer: More ranting ahead, stop reading if you think this game is teh awesum!!1!1!11

When I bitched and moaned for 2 years that Konami Tokyo needed to upgrade the animations and stop using PS2 animations with added frames, I had no idea that this would fuck the gameplay up. If I did, I would have never asked for it. You know that neat feint they added this year, the one that Marquéz executes whenever he tries to change direction (and so do most slow players)? That's all nice and well too look at, but it fucks up the game. How? Simple, go play Become a Legend and watch your team-mates constantly lose the ball on the flank, with nobody even near them, because they want to change direction, but, instead, use the stupid feint.

How to fix this? Simple:

- One solution would be to stop using the same analog stick for both movement and special moves, but you can't get that through Konami's thick head. No, no... that's too much for them to handle. Disregard that they were using separate analog sticks for feints and movement in PES 3, PES 4, PES 5, PES 6 and PES 2008. I suppose they thought that was way too retarded, it's better to use the same analog stick for both. Makes sense. Sounds fun too.

- The other would be to stop adding useless shit unless they're also willing to make it work!

My other big issue with the game is how much your team-mates and opponents are idiots. It's like they have no sense of where to run, where to pass and who to pass.
All this bullshit about Team-Vision 2.0... it doesn't fucking do anything. The only noticeable changes for last year is that defense has been boosted, not because the A.I's better, but because the new animation system and the idiocy of your own players make defending easier. How, you say? Well, they fucking lose track of the ball mid-run! Look at deflections as an example, how many times have you seen players pass the ball, the ball bounces off someone, but still goes to the area you want it to... what do you see your players doing?

...

OK, I'll help, they enter an animation to stop sprinting instead of trying to get to the ball. :lol

So, instead of quickly adjusting to the ball's direction, they take 3 or 4 steps forward to stop running, and you have to get it back.

Also, downloaded the update, didn't notice anything. No new Japanese kit and no updated rosters for the teams I looked at.

True that they need to bring back the "play-on" icon. It was really helpful and it's become even more of a necessity now because you never know if the refs using the advantage rule or not.

HUH? WHAT ITS GONE?

I was wondering why I didn't get the icon for some fouls made on me.

Anyway, after reading a lot about pes 2010, is it true tht PES wii version is the BEST version around, if so ill probably give it a try, to bad ther isnt a demo

So true. But don't just give it a simple try. You'll have to train, learn and enjoy the awesome and deep mechanics to really appreciate this and the balance work behind 2010 - and I think not many people is really trying.

BTW, I have my review (in Spanish) up.

PS: Free kicks need a dedicated championship!

Id est, lock Seabass in a basement and put Chosokabe in charge of PES 2011 across all platforms.

Single player is great in PES10, but IMO playing cooperatively is the best it's been in years while playing on Professional difficulty.
Blaburn, the reason I couldn't play ya earlier is because my bro and I were in the middle of a Champions League with FC Basel (we wanted a challenge :lol )
Anyway, made it through the groups and managed to beat Barca 3-1 on aggregate in the last 16. It just feels a lot more realistic than previous years to me and I imagine I'll be playing co-op a lot more :)

Also, did the patch do anything? I found that playing the ML on regular was too easy, so went back to professional. Hadn't won a game this season so far, but post-update, I won 2-0. Could just be coincidence but was there any hint that the update tweaked the difficulty?

And that is even more true. I can't stop recommending PES Wii Coop, because is its (and soccer games) maximum expression

Oh, I guess online matches are region locked? what about that 4vs4 mode? does it work?

I couldn't play online b4 the review, so I'll add some opinion later. Connection is supposed and promised to be much better than in 2009, which is not so difficult, TBH.

Alright, fuck this, I've had enough of this piece of shit game. To think that I wasted 70€ on this crap, and that I could have bought Uncharted 2 instead, makes me want to throw up.

Fuck you, Konami. Last PES I'm going to buy. For 3 years I've seen you drive your franchise to the ground, and I even gave you the benefit of the doubt with this game, but fuck you already. I'm not going to force myself to play this shit anymore. Become a Legend is a fucking joke, your team-mates are retards. If I keep playing it, I might have to check into anger management therapy or something.

That's it, for me. You guys have fun and keep on hoping that "Next year is the year!", "Return of the King!", yadda, yadda, yadda. Jumping boat to FIFA again. Seeing as I can't have fun with either game, might as well go for the one where developers are actually trying and where Be a Pro isn't complete horse shit.

G'day to you.

Konami just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about football games culture (I'm an expert), but animations and AI are huge parts of it. It's not like random shooters where you can become successful by being shit. If you screw someone over on footy games, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is that Shikashi, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase PES for any system, nor will he purchase any of Konami's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Konami has alienated an entire costumer with this move.

Konami, publicly apologize and fix your game or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Though, you know that when dyon doesn't like PES, it's gotta be terrible.

You could say that, seeing how he even likes PES 2008.

But fuck, don't tell me that PES 2008 is better than 2010. PES 2008 is the absolute worst. PES. ever. It's the only PES I owned and sold afterwards and I don't regret it.

i've been playing PES 2010 for the last 3 hours. It's amazing. I thought they couldn't top PES 2009 in terms of gameplay mechanics, and all they had to do was now to improve graphics and sound. Well, they did the opposite:

- they tweaked gameplay to a new perfection with better collisions, more animation, better IA in defense, better one-two, better headers, better free kicks, better pace with quicker first intention passes...

- they kept graphics and sound as mediocre as they were...

...so unfortunately based on first impression, nobody will notice this game is the best soccer game ever, way way better than FIFA and PES on HD consoles.

Uncharted is my GOTY.
PES Wii 2010/2009 comes in 2nd place.
Other games are far behind these 2.

I'll say this in PES 2008's defense, at least it was fun to play and feints weren't done with the same analog stick as movement.

Not saying it's better or worse btw.

Speaking of selling games, the only reason why I haven't sold this yet is because you can't erase Achievements from your Gamertag. Seriously. And now I'm regretting using my PS3 to play the full game because it locked Trophies to my PSN account... even if I haven't unlocked any.

Just got the Wii version and I must say basing on the demos I'm glad I've skipped PES and FIFA for my PS3 -- this is much more fun.

A few refinements upon last year game but all of them on gameplay and more importantly all in the right direction. I am really liking the new "Play Energy" thing, last year I could just assault defenses carelessly, now this is not working anymore.

I'm guessing the Wii version doesn't have the responsiveness issue the HD consoles have because it's based on the PS2 version? Also, how is the online for the Wii version? Easy enough to find a match?
not that I'd be good enough to play online or anything

Reviews sound positive - definitely leaning towards buying it this year.

I will develop further in a future post, but after extensive play on PES 2010 Wii let me tell this straight: THIS IS THE BEST SOCCER GAME EVER CREATED.

i hope they release a patch for sonys motion controller. but i still think that the classic control is the superior one...

Well, think again. PES 2010 on wii with nunchuk/wiimote set up is 10 fold superior to FIFA or PES HD. Besides the fact there is ZERO script whatsoever and that you can pass the ball wherever you want (ie make a tiny pass that stops 2 meters away from your player), this 2010 version has been refined to a point the gameplay is perfect. You can expect anything on the field, something new happens every match. It's real football/soccer. I've been playing soccer game with classic controllers on every consoles for 20 years, they are my favorite games. This gem is so above anything that has been produced so far, it's not even funny.

There's a learning curve and it's on wii so most people won't even try to see what I'm talking about. But this game is a miracle for soccer fans, a MIRACLE.

I need to know something before rushing out to buy it: One thing that pissed me off about 2009 was how they wasted -IMO- all the potential of the awesome Wii controls + Classic controls Co-Op, since the CC player could only just control 1 and only player for attacking and another 1 for defending and that's it, he couldn't switch through different players while using Classic Controls (as it's possible to do in single player), making it no fun at all for your mates playing with CC in Co-Op mode.
Has that been changed?

How would that even work, you'd end up like that ps3 RE5 Alternative abortion where you play with the wand on one hand and a dualshock3 to shoot on the other :lol

The real (roster) update is out!

Seems like there are stat changes and updated rosters. Can't get to the game at the moment, so it remains to be seen if there are any changes that impact the gameplay.

The thing is, that way, which hasn't changed:

- You could have 3 players in classic mode.
- If you play coop a lot, you notice it'll be not that easy to choose between many players. I think a great config is choosing a mid-defender and a '9', be it Toure-Ibra, for example, and act as free and surprising players for the Playmaker player. Of course they don't need to goal always, sometimes they're great for pulling/cheating rival players!

so how does PES 2010 wii compare to PES 2009

i was going to buy 2009 because of the coop mode but then i read that PES 2010 is comming out shortly after...

which one is better..?

thanks for pointing me to this thread, Letters

Picked up the game recently and I'm shocked at how hard it is to score penalties. I just had a round where only one was scored—and that was a shot taken straight down the middle that somehow managed to get between the keeper's legs. Every other shot went off target. What gives?

Also, any decent guide out there? I want to learn all the tricks and who I can use them with.

Yup, penalties are a joke in this years version. There was nothing wrong with them before, no idea why they changed it!

Actually there was something wrong with penalties in the previous versions. It was really easy to use any decent player and aim a penalty for the top corners (basically unsaveable). In sharp contrast to the penalties I described above, I would regularly have rounds where each penalty would be go swooshing into the net until the lumbering central defenders stepped up...

Anyway I'm bored with both PES HD and FIFA. I'm going back to the Wii once i can get the console again.

PES Wii GET!! :D

Even touched my PS3 PES2010 since yesterday and I don't plan to at least for this week... I'm loving it, Return of The Thing for real this time :)

Here is a good analogy to make people understand: PES Wii 2010 makes traditional soccer games suddenly feel like onrail shooters, that can be fun, but that will never come close to the freedom offered in a FPS.

Well I guess the code base for the NA version didn't need to be patched to 1.01. Downloaded the new update with the new Nippon kits yesterday.

just played some master league. did the game always had banners for the upcoming movie "ninja assassin?" :lol i don't think so. seems like the latest update also added at least one new sponsor for the perimeter boards.
