Reminder: Frost* released "Heartstrings" (which was featured in The Rockfield Files but with a different mix) as a single for their new album, titled Falling Satellites, which releases on the 27th of May

Here's the official lyrics video for the song

Obviously you can find the audio in a better quality on other platforms, 'cause YT really gut-punches the sound here.

Just flying by to say great thread, and two of my favourite progressive rock tracks have to be Sirius & Eye In The Sky by The Alan Parsons Project

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBQalkIeE7s
That takes me back! Used to have lots of their albums. Doesn't seem to make many now ( I know Alan Parsons makes his own stuff now). But I really like Return to Tunguska from A Valid Path (which I have in 5.1). Excellent and with the added bonus of Gilmour on guitar. But I think my favourite album is Tales of Mystery and Imagination when it was released on CD.

On a different note, Purson A British band that I saw pop up on my Facebook for one reason or another so I checked them out and....do I like them? I think so. I mean the music is a mix of psychedelic and prog I guess. Really takes me back to my youth when I was listening to Cream, early Deep Purple, Floyd and many many others. But I'm not sure. Thing is the female vocalist and guitarist is absolutely my type! So yeah, I'm going to be paying some more attention I think!

Quiet in here this month.

Riverside are releasing a 5.1 version of their last album, Love, Fear and the Time Machine at some point.

Anderson / Stolt, the brand new duo of legendary Yes vocalist Jon Anderson and progrock veteran Roine Stolt release 'Invention Of Knowledge' 24th June 2016 on InsideOut Music.

Written & recorded over the course of 1 and a half years, the tracks have been in a state of constant change as Roine and Jon swapped & refined ideas by sending tracks to each other via the internet. In March 2015, an ensemble was put together by Roine to realise the music live in the studio. Joining him there was Tom Brislin (who played on the Yes Symphonic tour) & Lalle Larsson on keys, Jonas Reingold & Michael Stolt on bass and Felix Lehrmann on drums. The sessions were also bolstered by appearances from Daniel Gildenlöw, Nad Sylvan, Anja Obermayer, Maria Rerych and Kristina Westas who all provided backing vocals.

Oh hi. I didn't know this thread was here. I've been listening to a LOT of the new Haken album. Relatively new fan of them, but I'm way into it.

So I've been trying to find some new stuff to listen to, and on the /r/progrockmusic sub-reddit, someone posted a link to a Thank You, Scientist song. This is... pretty awesome.

This deserves more comment

I've known the band for a couple years and they're fucking great, the EP is super nice but Maps of non-Existing places is where is at, really, they bring so much to the prog rock scene that all the other bands should stop trying and give up already

So I saw these guys live probably around a year ago, and they put on a really fun show. They played a really good song called Blue Automatic that wasn't on any of their released material yet. I'd checked in on them a couple times since then to see if they had released anything, and these two posts reminded me to check again, turns out they just posted it a couple days ago and it's fucking great!

Both of those teasers sound exactly what I would imagine Flower Kings + Yes would sound like. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Anderson works best for me when combined with crazy symphonic prog and I've been loving The Flower King's after finally going through their albums recently.

Jeremy Clarkson once said something hilarious that sums it up "The best prog rock songs last about half an hour and make absolutely no sense to anyone." or something close to that effect.

That said I do love it.

Did you guys heard the new Big Big Train album, Folklore?

Just listened to it. Very Genesis sounding, but pretty good. Nothing mind-blowing and not going to win any top 10 of the year stuff from me, but it's solid throughout.

Quiet in here this month.

Riverside are releasing a 5.1 version of their last album, Love, Fear and the Time Machine at some point.

Loved this album, and it's nice hearing any Riverside in 5.1. Will probably pick it up. I'm also excited for the other ambient album they're talking about putting out this year.

I can't stand albums in 5.1, all of them just sound odd, to the point that it's hard to explain.

Stereo forever for me.

In the last weeks I've been listening again and again the last two Opeth albums (Heritage and Pale Communion).

Both of them are damn amazing from start to finish.

So the Anderson/Stolt album leaked a month early, must've been a reviewer copy as a few have popped up this week.

It's great to hear Anderson's vocals soaring over Stolt's guitar work and some nice keyboard arrangements.

My only issue so far is that it seems to be very much built around Anderson singing a lot, so there's less of the instrumental passages that you get with Yes or The Flower Kings.

heres an amazing prog rock band nobody knows about: (i guess theyre more psychedelic than prog but who can tell the difference these days)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye-TlDCB31A&list=PLUSRfoOcUe4bxDYf4Z9VeCblZZV_nvbFA

you should listen to it at least once imo.

They fall under the Psychadelic/Space Rock banner, which is definitely progressive.

Really enjoying this, kinda feels like Floyd but with more distortion and edge. Really enjoying the keyboards.

Luckily both versions are on Google Play Music for streaming, so I've been listening there.

Sucks about the death =[

Really digging this new Frost* album. It's huge.

Frost* - Numbers

Unfortunately the band is in catalog hell and listed under several names - Frost, Frost*, The Frost, etc.

Damn, I can't even keep up with everything Steven Wilson is releasing. Was lucky to see both PT and his solo act in Buffalo. Both top tier shows.

Yeah, Wilson did come to Wisconsin the last two tours, so it's cool. I've seen him and Porcupine Tree live a ton. I was at the filming for two of PT's DVDs. I can be seen on Arriving Somewhere, since I was there both nights, and I was at Octane Twisted, too. Good shit every time.

One of these Days and Run Like Hell are new, I think. The other? Well, I'm going in Sept so I'll see for myself then.

Run Like Hell has been played all this tour.

The new tracks for this leg were One of These Days and Dancing Right in Front of Me (from his new album).

For some reason I thought Shine On hadn't been played this tour, but I was thinking of Echoes.

Should've remembered he did Run Like Hell last year at the Albert Hall. Seems my memory isn't as good as it used to be!
Shame Echoes hasn't, at least a much abridged version.

Just saw Carl Palmer live. 66 years old and the greatest drummer I've ever seen. His energy and form is astonishing. What other prog drummers can be compared to him?

Not anymore I imagine but Phil Collins is an amazing drummer and demonstrates his chops not only in Genesis but in Brand X as well - my favorite more obscure one would be his intro to Burning Rope. He slaughters that song with perfectly placed fills.

For everyone who likes Jazz-oriented Prog-Rock, Fläsket Brinner
Now where to find the Swedish Radio Recordings Box Set for a good price - it's one of these albums where you have to pay more than 80€ for a used copy.
