Project Gotham Racing Trademark has been renewed.

I remember playing PGR 1 on my xbox. It was the first console game I played online. Pretty fun, but I think it scared me away from online racers for the rest of my life. People are too good :(

whats the deal with project gotham racing? never played it

It was a series with great arcade racing mechanics, a lot of content, great art design, and technically superb (queue pgr rain gif )

Basically, PGR looked, run, and played very well.

Hell, despite MS's support for T10 and actually being a more arcady series, many considered PGR to be a better rival to Gran Turismo than FM.

I think PGR5 will happen, and it'll be a collaboration between a few companies.

I know Lucid Games are small, but it makes so much sense to get them on board.

Renewing a trademark does not mean they are developing the game. Just normal business procedures to keep the trademark alive. Happens once every 10 years

I believe it is Lucid games, which is also made up of several Bizarre devs as far as I can tell, have read, or have been informed. The strange thing however was that Lucid was one of the games on Sony's PS4 dev chart here.

Does Microsoft own the PGR IP? If yes, I guess it confirms it will definitely be exclusive. But yea, I'm fairly confident PGR5 will be a nextbox title at the very least, or a game along those lines anyway.
Let's be honest, this is just a list of studios who have PS4 dev kits. I wouldn't read too much in to it. After all, we're still waiting for that Kojima Kinect game.

Likewise, I wouldn't read too much in to the PGR trademark renewal.

Oh man that was back in Oct 2012, shiiiieeeet.

PRG collab!

Man, that Lucid logo looks like Rare's new logo and that Polygon logo watermarked on that picture.
Thank you, Helvetica (edit: polygon's actually looks more like futura bold, or something)

Ugliest is still Platinum's. Man, who came up with that ?

Also PGR5, baby.
Just grab all assets from pgr2, 3, 4 (I'm sure they have much higher res textures than the ones they used in the games, stored somewhere) polish them a little, add dynamic lighting, lift car models from forza. Done.

They didn't renew the Perfect Dark trademark though.

According to wikipedia they also tried to renew Killer Instinct... But failed. They now have 6 months to appeal.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_Instinct#section_5

On December 4, 2012, Microsoft's renewal for the Killer Instinct trademark was rejected by the United States Patent and Trademark Office due to the possibility of the game being confused with the unrelated TV series of the same name that lasted only for one season in 2005.[21][22] Microsoft has six months to respond to the ruling[23] but its spokesperson declined to comment about it to IGN.

I hope it is a tad less arcadey. I bought PGR4 and could not figure out the appeal. All the top times were people sliding into rails and cheating. The driving model punished driver who used the brake.

Why do people always mix Rare in development process? They haven't produce anything worth wild for quite sometime. They are almost equivalent to Sony's Japan Studio.

YES

Please have SF, Edinburgh, Quebec, Barcelona, FM Yokohama, 84.7 and that next gen Green Hell!

I still think, as rumoured, this will be a co-production by Rare, Lucid and Playground Games.
