Project Gotham Racing Trademark has been renewed.

All their leads are gone

PGR leads and studio founders Martyn Chudley (and his wife Sarah) and Gareth Wilson are at Sumo Digital.

Ged Talbot, the third lead on PGR joined Evolution

The rest of the BC staff was divided between at least 7 studios.

TheOddOne says that 20+ ex-BC are working at Lucid, but Bizarre Creations was made up of about 200 people.

Can't you see why people aren't excited?

Aww. I thought Lucid was like 90% the original Bizarre staff or something. I hope Rare stays far, far away from this game as well.

I think I'd prefer a new IP.

I recently went back and played through PGR4, which I used to love more than any other racer.................. Rose-tinted specs. It's so repetitive and short :/

Another move that makes me think that MS are still going to rely on old Xbox IPs, rather than move on.

I don't think Lucid is working on PGR. I think it's more likely they are helping with Drive Club.

I doubt it. Their teaser image doesn't look like the footage of Drive Club, also you would think they would have announced they are working on the game by now considering they did release that teaser image.

Why do people always mix Rare in development process? They haven't produce anything worth wild for quite sometime. They are almost equivalent to Sony's Japan Studio.

Whatever your interest in Kinect Sports, it and its sequel are still pretty much unmatched in terms of tracking and they seem to have played a big role in the tracking software itself and perfecting it. Which might be completely uninteresting to somebody who couldn't give a shit about a motion sports game, but it shows that they still have some very capable developers since that shit isn't easy to get right. Plus recent tweets seem to indicate they're working on some very impressive physics-based stuff. There's little reason to negatively judge the competency of the hundreds of people that work there, even if the "Rare magic" has gone.

Unless there was a sudden mass exodus of ex BC people to Lucid I very much doubt that they hold even a third of their old team.

This will be a completely different game, pretty much PGR in name only (which MS is very smart to use as fans still emotionally attached to the franchise as proven by this thread)

Wow

If MS shows a REAL commitment to bringing back great game series to the 360 then I'm definitely in.

This generation started out so awesome for MS and its like as soon as they started to focus on Kinect it just went downhill.

FYI, these hires are the reason Rare gets mentioned so often:

And:
A concept artist that was hired by Rare made these:

Take in account that his other clients, besides Rare, are not actually big studios or game related.

Like I have said before, with the recent hirings of race devs, I think they are working on a reboot of PGR.
A gaffer then replied:
Cool, I know this guy. He was telling me two months ago he had to go to the UK for a job at Rare (he has worked for Ubisoft before, he's a freelancer). A few weeks ago he came back, the project was cancelled.

We talked about Rare's demise and the whole Kinect direction they're heading and he said he was actually surprised to be asked by Rare, since his style is very realistic and serious. He does some great stuff btw.

That line really stuck out. Rare's new concept artist hires all have a really realistic look to their art: guy one, guy two and guy three.

Nice post. A racing game certainly seems like a lock for them. I wonder if it is going to be a compilation of various racing types/vehicles like rally, street, boat, since there was a rumor of awesome water physics. I personally don't see a pure water racing title being something that would get greenlit unless the pitch was incredibly awesome.

That would be interesting.

If PGR returns to the Xbox and has a decent dev making it, I'll buy the MS console. Sony's Drive Club gives me a PGR vibe though. I don't want Turn10 to be the lead developer on any PGR game, leave them make to Forza series.

Renewing a trademark does not mean they are developing the game. Just normal business procedures to keep the trademark alive. Happens once every 10 years

Be that as it may, there were plenty rumors of PGR5 being developed for the Durango and Lucid is likely the dev( or one of the devs) behind it. Launch of an xbox without a PGR game just wouldn't feel right.

It'll probably be developed by these guys:

They made Forza Horizon, and from the wiki/personal knowledge:

The development studio was established in 2009, by former employees of Codemasters, Bizarre Creations, Criterion Games, Ubisoft Reflections, Slightly Mad Studios, Black Rock Studio and many other world-class developers that are known for their racing video games.

According to one founding member of Lucid in the PGR appreciation thread, only a handful of ex-BC people work at Playground: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=47217719&postcount=517 "Ex bizarre wise, think there's only 2 maybe 3 ex bizarre guys at Playground, 2 at Sumo, 2 or 3 at Codies, yet 25+ atLucid. Always seemed odd that everyone thought there were huge numbers of BC guys at other studios..."

Looking on the PG website it's mostly staffed by ex-Codemasters employees and in 2010, CM attempted to sue Playground Games for poaching staff. If anyone should be making another PGR it's Lucid.

This fellow is also required to be a part of the team:

Any new PGR requires Geometry Wars!

I believe it is Lucid games, which is also made up of several Bizarre devs as far as I can tell, have read, or have been informed. The strange thing however was that Lucid was one of the games on Sony's PS4 dev chart here.

People don't realise that this isn't a list of people developing games for PS4; it's a list of people who want to/are able to support development for it, basically.

I might be reading to much into this, but heck I'll post it anyway. Might not be even PGR related, more like DLC for Forza Horizon or the sequel (!?).

Playground Games recently hired Titus Lunter. He recently posted these two pictures in his portfolio:

First one would fit in the whole FH Rally thing, the second one looks more like something akin to PGR.

'RalliSport Challenge VS Project Gotham Racing' confirmed. Take that Marvel vs Capcom.

Yay at every platform getting the same games. Racing in the street, generic future warfare FPS, generic platform/RPG. It's so good to be part of this gaming era!

Also MSR > PGR.

Night time New York, Times Square, as a PGR5 reveal would be bonkers. I think it would be a visual tour de force. Do it Lucid.

Good find.

As hot as that looks, I don't want to go back to NYC again, kinda worn out at this point and it probably had some of the weakest track configurations out of all of PGR3 and PGR4. I guess they may painstakingly model ties square for some eye candy though this time around.

There is word that one of the Launch titles is getting worked on by 3 developers. Its probably PGR and Lucid/Playground/Turn10.

A Microsoft console launch without a Project Gotham would be a bad omen. Seems if this is true, they are pulling out all the stops to ensure there's one at launch.
