I held off as long as I could before breaking down and watching the trailer. I need this movie in my life.

The OG screenwriter has been tweeting about the movie.

Even the new guy has stated that he didn't completely re-write the movie and that a lot of what is in the movie was already there before he started working on it. He just tweaked things and changed some things.

1. They might not know the exact coordinates, since the crew might all die/ship blows up before their last report.

2. We don't know how long it takes to reach LV426.

I'm not trying to poke a hole I'm saying the Prometheus mission probably does not initially head to LV-426. They probably don't have much of an idea about what happened to that mission either.

What took you so long?

Never been a huge alien fan in general. Don't think I even saw the (assumedly god awful) AvP movies. Alien was before my time and I just never had an interest to watch old movies.

Here's hoping it turns out to be amazing. My current favorite sci-fi movie is Sunshine, despite the last act. dat soundtrack

Thanks.

A million times yes. The effects used in the first two Alien movies look really good today. To me practical effects are more impressive and hold up way more than CG. The acid scene in the first movie still blows my mind.

The first film has a few small blemishes in the special effect department
Ash's rubber head transitioning to the real actors head comes to mind
, but these things should be expected from a 30+ year old film. But the art direction, set designs, cinematography make up for it. It is still an amazing looking film to this day and holds up well as a sci-fi horror. There are times when this movie looks better than most movies shot in the last 5 years. Of course it's worth seeing.

The art direction isn't as strong in James Cameron's Aliens, but it is still a pretty incredible triumph in practical effects and intense action. I just saw the making of documentary for Aliens recently, and I was impressed at how little post production this movie had. they really filmed most of the effects (sans a few miniature shots) directly on camera. The movie went to theaters a couple months after filming, which is something you don't see anymore. Most films these days will spend 6 - 12 months or over a year finalizing visual effects. It blew my mind how they managed to film almost all of the Power Lifter vs. the Queen alien scene directly on camera with minimal post.

As for Prometheus, it's one of my most anticipated films of this year. Sure Ridley Scott has been hit and miss as of late, but I have a good feeling about this one. I love that he revisiting the Alien universe but looking at it from a completely different angle. The trailer looks pretty great to me.

Hard to be a fan when you've never seen the movies. Unless you mean the concept of aliens in movies.

Concept, that's why I didn't capitalize it :) I'm not an anti-fan of the concept, it's just whatever. Probably because I have never seen Alien/s lol

edit: So I am looking at the blu-ray set of Alien/s now. Which cut of Alien/s do I watch? Director's cut for both? Extended? Alternate?

Just know that Alien and Aliens are two completely different types of movies that are in two different genres.

Even if you don't like one you might still like the other.

Alien - Theatrical Cut

Aliens - Special Edition/Directors Cut

Don't let these peasants fool you. The Special Edition Cut of Aliens is especially better if you liked the tone of the first film.

We need detailed impressions after you watch Alien. Also, make sure you watch it in best possible enviroment.

AT NIGHT. ALONE. IN THE DARK. PREFERABLY SOMEWHERE WHERE NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM.

:)

I swear they're probably former Coca Cola employees who left after the new Coke debacle.

BTW love the remix of the original Alien trailer music that they're using in these ads. It's kept the alarming vibe.

So damn true! The first one was significantly creepier in my opinion and freaked me out for years. The designs of the xenomorphs still get to me today actually.

If I ever saw one of those in person--instant suicide.

The original Alien still gives me nightmares. I had a nasty one after getting the Blu-Ray Anthology and it kept me up for hours in the middle of the night. I'm too old for this shit, but damn.

Ridley Scott's movies always look perfect

i just dont understand why James Cameron makes all the money... i did like Titanic and Avatar but Gladiator, Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven: Director's Cut BLEW ME AWAY...

this is what Avatar really should have looked like... was way too cartoony.

Titanic's better than all three of those films mentioned. Though I do have a soft spot for Gladiator.

Particularly Joaquin Phoenix's performance and the soundtrack.

And it's pretty obvious why those two Cameron films made mad bank.

Looks so awesome. May get some hate for this, but does anyone feel a slight Mass Effect feel from this? There was also a shot of a guy standing in what appeared to be the ship's cockpit wearing a baseball cap. I immediately wondered if Seth Green had a role in this.

Other than the globe helmets, the space suits seem rather Mass Effect-y, especially in the shoulders.
