So is Noomi confirmed to be main character in the film?

Her and Fassbender seem like the main two and she definitely seems to be getting billed as the lead in most promotional material I think. So is Noomi confirmed to be main character in the film?

IndeedVery fitting avatar combo we have going here.
Seemed to be the case from all of the advertising, plus knowing the series it makes sense.
Gonna be so good. Heroines are still in low supply since the last time Ridley did it big.

This is the part where we have the argument about which film really turned Ripley into a heroine. In Alien she was a survivor, nothing more. Aliens is what gave Ripley her heroine status.
And since then we've had Sarah Connor and Beatrix Kiddo.
Damn, three great female characters right there. Don't know if anyone comes close. Can't really think of any others in that tier...

Inception's Juno
Ferreal though, Natalie Portman as The Scientist in Thor gives Lorna Riggs a run for her money.
Don't even forreal that. Natalie Portman's scientist was busy whining about her equipment and sent goldilocks to go fetch it. Lorna would straight up roundhouse kick those SHIELD agents.
The Social Network's Erica Albright.
But seriously
Top tier - Ripley, Sarah Connor, The Bride
Second tier - Neytiri, Trinity
Third tier - Lorna, Hanna, Lisbeth
Fourth tier - Dejah Thoris

It's funny, Avatar looks a lot more 'cartoony' on bluray than it did in 3D at the cinema. It felt kind of grimy, and I saw it multiple times, so it wasn't just a specific projection. The slightly less saturated, less precision look was certainly nicer I think.this is what Avatar really should have looked like... was way too cartoony.
It would appear so. I don't like how they just stick her front & center in the ads, and say she's the new Ripley. Ripley as a character was just another member of the crew, did her job, and was kind of in the background until her stand-off with Dallas over Kane. Noomi's all over the trailers, discovered the Jockey's message, is the leader of the expedition, etc. It feels forced.
The first point is good, the second point is kinda invalidated by the fact that in Prometheus they will be covering the entire discovery of the coordinates and the actual flight to the destination. So it can't take awfully long to get there - maybe a few years at most. Certainly not decades.

Absolutely wrong. Ripley was the voice of reason in Alien, and the only one smart/strong enough to survive. If they'd done what she said at several points they would have remained safe (the biggest example is her enforcing the quarantine procedure that even the captain wants to override and ash does override). There's a very obvious reading of the film that the woman who is strong enough to handle male agression is the only one equipped to handle 'super-male' (the alien, which can impregnate a male) agression. This is the part where we have the argument about which film really turned Ripley into a heroine. You mention characters from movies like Hanna and John Carter but ignore one of the original blockbuster badass female characters Princess Leia???The Social Network's Erica Albright.

I'm sure Lindelof had less than complete rewrite contributions, but how can anyone be worried about the influence of a guy who helped write "flashes before your eyes" and "the constant", two of the more celebrated and grounded, scifi stories in recent memory (both from Lost).

The ending of Lost (which I liked) was a question of design more than anything. It had to reflect so many aspects of the show until that point. I hear lots of complaints, but not a single suggestion which is an improvement.
This film is a standalone entity, it doesn't have to appease expectations from a series which had already a hundred and twenty episodes.
Besides, the show was fucked well before the ending, really. It's not the viewer's job to suggest a different ending. The onus lies on the writers, and if they can't script a coherent ending.
I believe it was 'coherent'. It's unbelievably reductive to require every single loose end of a story to be completely resolved. It's not the viewer's job to suggest a different ending. The onus lies on the writers, and if they can't script a coherent ending, one that doesn't force us to neglect a variety of loose ends from the earlier seasons, then they will be ridiculed.

She was pretty heroic in the first, she even went back for the damn cat!
The best part was that it was never implied she was going to be the only survivor, which made her really stand out as a character, in Aliens you know already she's the protagonist, you never even wonder if she is in any danger, she was simply not going to die.
It sucks that in these days they have to have "the protagonist", movies can't have low key characters any more, it would be great if Prometheus throws a curve ball and Noomi doesn't end up being the most important character but I'm not holding my breath.
She wasn't heroic at all in Alien, she was willing to let Kane and Dallas(her captain, even) die from suffocation because of a protocol violation. She was actually kind of a bitch.
Thank god she let Kane back on the ship!
