I'm not defending the statues, I'm not calling for unity, I'm not saying this wasn't the only way. I'm wondering what our long term gameplan is here. Same, my parents took me there and I had no idea. I remember having glow sticks and light up toys and watching the laser light show, which seemed really expensive and was set to country music and patriotic music exclusively.

Eugene has changed so much though since then. Racism still exists like in any other city, but the KKK/white supremacists movement have dwindled and the city is currently very liberal. The city counsel is as hippy as it can get as well.
