This is the carving that was funded by Lost Causers, the KKK, and the fucking Federal government. Georgia refuses to entertain the idea of destroying it because it was carved by the creator of Mount Rushmore. I say we bring it down ourselves.

Why would you deface a scene of natural beauty like that.

Is there any chance this shit will be wiped off the face of the planet eventually?

Something like that could just be covered with something I would think, like a giant ass American flag.

Definitely. Also most of these things went up in the 50-60's or basically "when the negros are getting uppity and need a reminder." They don't mark anything of historical significance that can't be done with a plaque.

Ever notice there aren't any Confederate statues of Longstreet? Someone of his status in the Confederate army surely should get as many statues as Stonewall Jackson, JEB Stuart, and PGT Beauregard.

Could it because of his post-Civil war work helping black people?

Considering we got folks saying shit like "anti-Nazi hate speech" around here, it isn't surprising in the slightest..

Let them come at us, and we'll fight back with 10x the strength. Enough cowardliness, enough "calls of unity". They made their point last weekend, they killed someone and injured dozens. They stand for the extermination of anyone who doesn't follow or met their ideology. Let it escalate and let's end this shit once and for all.

Jesus christ, a Nazi launched a terrorist attack by driving his car into a crowd of people killing a woman, and you're asking if violence is unavoidable.

The sentiment I'm getting here is that we're at war in the streets at this point. In which case we should be arming ourselves as such and preparing to engage in firefights if we're in a city during any activity. Have things escalated? Fuck yes, can they escalate further? Of course they can. They always can.

I'm not defending the statues, I'm not calling for unity, I'm not saying this wasn't the only way. I'm wondering what our long term gameplan is here. On top of that I'm trying to reconcile myself to the reality of things while at the same time hoping we don't have see anything that makes this weekend look like a pillow fight.

Oh also this bears repeating:

Nigga is surrounded by white faces down here. I see them getting angrier and more armed on an almost weekly basis. This shit getting even hotter means me and mines are in greater danger. And I get the strong impression that it'll be people like me that get the brunt of it in comparison to a lot of people making this argument (hell as a Southern nigga, I already get the worst). Now, I a'int saying stand down, if only because I for damn sure a'int, but this general non-concern over escalation, is fucking bullshit. Like come the fuck on

Not surprisingly it's also a famous KKK rally site for this reason.

Getting rid of that would take a while.

I wonder if anyone in Redneck Revolt has a grenade launcher or something.

On a serious note, because obviously trying to blow up a carving on a mountain is an awful idea without proper safety procedures, I have no idea how to get rid of that without that government handling it.

Good. This bullshit should be stamped out. Tear the statues down, burn the flags, rename the streets, and raise your children to be deeply ashamed of the past atrocities we committed, so that hopefully we never commit them again.

No justice, no peace.

Not going to lie, that's a pretty impressive monument.

I would go join a protest but I don't think Oregon has any confederate monuments.

That post has to be GAF's lowest point.

I dunno. One person recently was banned for both sidesing Gamergate and then he went and made a youtube video where he bitched about GAF being against dissenting opinions and us being the intolerant left.

That was pretty pathetic.

Oregon has plenty of KKK stuff though. Eugene was a hotbed of racist activity back in the day.

Part of me hates to see destruction of public property at any time.

But then again, it's a statue that shouldn't exist anyways.. soo...

Every time a black man, woman or child walked by that piece of public property they were reminded that the city around them honors- to the point of enshrining in eternal statuary- men who fought to the death for the explicit purpose of buying, owning and selling them.

Maybe my sense of scale is fucked up, but it seems like it would be possible for someone to rappel down the side and start banging away at it. You would only really need to fuck up the faces to get the message through

I went there as a kid, and ya I was really blown away how cool the park was. Neat laser show and everything, how naive.

Same, my parents took me there and I had no idea. I remember having glow sticks and light up toys and watching the laser light show, which seemed really expensive and was set to country music and patriotic music exclusively.

Yea, I think a stone chipper thingy and a hammer and about 15 min and it'd look much better.

It's pretty huge and way up there.

I really do want them to come down, but I do think they belong in history museums to allow people not to ever forget about that heinous time period.

I wonder if they can bring down that Robert E. Lee statue, but its pretty huge.
You know, there aren't a lot of statues of Hitler and Göbbels in museums here in Austria and people still remember that time pretty well.

I hate seeing destruction of public property, but at the same time this statue(and others like it) shouldn't even exist. Considering going through the proper channels (eg the city voting to physically remove it) would never happen-i'm all for it

C'mon, man. Don't tear it down when Trump's so close to getting on there. He's worked hard for this!

Eugene has changed so much though since then. Racism still exists like in any other city, but the KKK/white supremacists movement have dwindled and the city is currently very liberal. The city counsel is as hippy as it can get as well.

This is a great moment but it kinda turned awkward by the people playing it out too longdue to further kicking it.

But the fucker deserves everyone of those hits though, so who gives a shit.
