Prototype -- what to expect?

I mean, about the time you started talking about plot of all things, I was already wary of your opinion. I didn't play Hulk: UD or Spider-Man 2 for the plot.

What? I for one thought the plot to both of these games was engrossing. How could you overlook the little girl who lost her balloon? What about the army's plan to destroy the Hulk? Just because it had Ultimate Destruction in the title and let you wear FUCKING CARS AS BOXING GLOVES doesn't mean I didn't shed a tear at the end.

Doesn't look that good, huh? That's not a gameplay angle though, it's a quick cut from the absorption sequence. You'd almost think someone who posted nothing but super-tight cut shots was cherrypicking ones to make the game look bad.

Here's some from regular gameplay, including a sweet Macho Man elbow drop onto a tank :lol

Four-shot sequence of a blade attack on a civilian (oops) that cut him in half. The game is unrelentingly vicious, almost to the point of being too much.

Unfortunately looks like it's sub-HD. :(

I'd believe it, the game looks a little 'soft' in screens but it looks fine on the TV. The bright side though is that I haven't seen any screen tearing at all.

Yep, looks like they completely eliminated it (based on the latest batch of videos), which is pretty impressive considering how much it teared a while ago.

Anyway, still hoping for positive impressions, I need to continue my habit after InFamous, and this seems to be a natural fit for more good action.

What does the size of activision have to do with the the budget of Prototype? You are out of your mind if you don't think that GTA 4 had a much larger budget than Prototype.

Exactly what I was thinking.

On another note, this thread seems to be filled with too many people who hate the game even though they haven't played it. Everyone (even the ones defending the game) need to chill out until the game comes out and we get some reviews.

Ever read one of BBs Prototype defense posts? At least this is taking place in a Prototype thread.

Oh please. I don't have an agenda. If I did I probably would be in regular Infamous thread every day until Prototype is released and then some, right? Sqwaking up and down about it, no?

Wow. That looks really nice.

Really? The second and third shot going down the street do look a lot like Spiderman 3, which I have been playing with my kid. The other shots look ok, but good.

The game looks like it could be running at the same res as Saints row 2, like 640P 2x AA.

It looks a lot more detailed than I ever expected it to.

There's a tradeoff there. It's not as detailed as Infamous, but you can't move through the environment in Infamous in anywhere near the same speed that you can in Prototype - both horizontally and vertically.

But you also don't have the terrain variety of inFamous, which was clearly custom designed for kick ass platforming and rewards a slower pace anyway. I have been impressed with the mobility in Prototype, as I'd figured it wouldn't really be fun to traverse the city much at all, especially after seeing the city in inFamous. But it does look cool, in very different ways. (Very non-Crackdowny ways. :( )

It doesn't look much less detailed. Not how the very first shots led me to believe in another thread.

Well, time to throw some impressions on my side.
Mind you, I have only played a couple of hours and it's already late, so I will continue tomorrow.

The game is really energetic and moves at quite a pace, though you spend almost the first hour or so learning all the moves (not exactly a tutorial though, it drops you right into action).
I've got to give some credit to the pixel monkey, there is no compare to the polish of a game like GTA and this. On the other hand, the game is completely different so perhaps we should not compare them at all. The script feels a little rushed and the cut scenes feel a little...stitched togethered, I can't explain it otherwise.

What makes a really negative impression is the technical aspect. The engine looks and feels really old, despite the carnage and mayhem. When you start to get high the view from afar looks blue and blurry, and everything is displayed in low detail. The particles look really embarrasing some times too.

Well, according to the dude I responded to, this other dude has an agenda because he's posting negatively about the game. Just saying, if that's the reasoning, then it might be worth looking at the other side of the fence, and you defending Prototype (in threads dedicated to Infamous) seemed like the best example of that.

I guess...

:(

I can never stay mad at you, Andrews. You're always so sensible.

:D

I don't know who told you that EDF2017 was anything but complete and utter shite, but you won't regret that Crackdown purchase. You should be able to pick it up for a song now, too.

You'll be more than pleased with that little sandbox of mayhem and chaos.
I'm sure you're already getting shit about this comment but why pick on a fun, low budget B game? It's like saying Snakes on a Plane was a terrible movie. I guess if you are gauging it on its technical achievements or artistic merit it was, but that doesn't mean it wasn't entertaining. In fact, people who "get" EDF will probably have the most fun with Prototype. The parts I played of Prototype made it seem like an old school brawler with a fresh coat of paint.

I cannot wait to play the shit out of this game. The carnage, chaos, running from building to building, elbow-dropping tanks....man, this is going to quench the thirst of my violent, blood thirsty, inner-murderer. :lol

I could have sworn I saw an interview a while back with one of the guys that made this game. The dude said "no demo" and gave some excuse about having to put the whole game in the demo if they did.. or something like that. Then again I could be wrong.

I don't think Activision will release a demo of it anyways. I don't think I've seen any demo from Activision this generation.

I was right, it is 640P 2x AA, MazerDude at B3D just verified it.

Anyone bought it yet, the silence is deafening.

For some silly reason, when I first saw "640p," my mind read 640x480 ...I was about to scream WTF!? :lol

Decent video but hardly a good video for those that need to be sold in this thread. The player just didn't do anything all that exciting.
If the player didn't do anything all that exciting, then this is going to be the best game ever made.

That video was fucking awesome.

This game looks to me like a solid 7.5 weekend rental. It looks like dumb good fun but not something I'll probably end up purchasing.

Really? He was running through a city of the same quality of spiderman 3. And was just throwing cars and stomping people. It looks exactly the same as the hulk game they made 3 years ago.

I wouldn't expect much tbh. I played it a bit at E3 and the only thing I remember about the game is how ugly it is. To be fair the game is action heavy so I am sure a lot of people will enjoy it.

Yikes. That video was kinda bad. I mean, the game play looks potentially entertaining, but the city couldn't be anymore generic and bland. Why the hell are there so many taxis on the street in that one section?

Dangerous city: taxi drivers thinking about safety in numbers. I'm keen to play something new, and it seems like there'll be a while to wait until anything really good, so Prototype might get a run.
