PS Home Closing March 31st 2015

Why are they closing it if its making them money ? Given the dire state Sony are in financially you'd think theyd fight to keep this running ?
 
I disagree with this video. I feel like a good majority of the people in this thread only played Home once or twice, years ago, and likely by themselves. Home is like a hangout place, it's something you do with friends just to chill or make new ones. You can play games, listen to music, or watch movies in public places or in your own house. Might not be the best thing ever, but I don't know why people act like it's a big waste. I've met a lot of cool people there, and I think it's a great place to just relax.

I've played hundreds of games years ago and by myself that are great and made me never want to put them down. Home was boring as hell and it showed no promise for me. I don't feel the need to check up every few years on games I didn't like to see if they fixed them.
 
I actually enjoyed the little I played of it, so its kinda sad to see it go.

The Siren area was easily the best part of it. Its was sort of a haunted mansion, but it had a big garden of lots of carnival games in from of it. It even had a pretty cool mini-game. It was creepy, atmospheric and lots of people went there all the time. It was more popular than the main shopping area. lol

But yeah, Home overall failed in execution as something that was supposed to make you keep coming back, but I think the idea should be revisited in the future given that they find new ideas and/or ways to implement it.
 
Home's biggest failure to me was the performance. It was too ambitious for the engine it was running on.

Even the PA comic showed that. The loading of assets sucked away an experience that could have been so much more.
 
Since it has been recently turning a profit (although might not have even broken even from the rough first few years) I half expect this to be getting killed off so they can redo Home for the PS4.

They can change a lot of things to make it more efficient on the new hardware.

Because it is PS3 online game, sometime it have to shut down.

Even GT5 online shutdown.
 
Never used it much, but thought it was an interesting concept and was looking forward to seeing where they would take it on PS4.

Also would've thought with Morpheus it would have leveraged into a 3D virtual networking space that would compete with Facebook's Oculus offering.
 
And they added trophies to HOME?? LOL

If you're doing the trophies, get started on them NAO. You have to login like 60 times to Home on 60 different days. Which means you only have 1-3 months left before the shutdown screws you over on that one for 100%

pretty sure on overall Home is profitable. they probably seen steep decline in user mainly because people move to PS4. so better to close it and use the resource somewhere else.
 
When you see random people doing stupid things on Destiny's Tower, you can see PS Home could be a real good feature on the faster PS4 (I think the worst thing of the system was how much time consumed you loading).

It's fifty, but still almost three months.
 
I've had some terrifying memories with Home.

I like Digital personal spaces, so I loved going back there every now and then. One night, there were a group of people dancing on the Playground and some guy starts sending out invites to his personal space. Everyone was lagging around, trying to queue up for Basketball (ha!) and I was busy taking pictures of the Skyline. So I accept this invite, along with a couple others that were dancing in a line. We get transported to this Cabin, where I shit you not, this guy had bought at least 8 picture frames and put these pictures of himself (his face) and him reclining naked with pillows, stuffed animals and soda cans just covering his junk.

When we got there, every one was typing "uh... nice place..." and I just kind of wandered around to see how he had decorated the place. It was covered in items that he bought (which was pretty neat) and the naked pictures. He kept asking us if the space was "chill" and saying suggestive things about how much better he looked in real life.

I never felt safe accepting invites again. Still, seeing someone really take time to decorate the place, having spent money and time rearranging it was neat. I'd always walk into my Boathouse vista, with the same White couches, and an odd Street Fighter relic. There were some neat ideas as far as game spaces, but the games always took way too long to get into and the creepy followers who tried to sit on top of you always was weird. There were some great things there and some neat holiday decorations.

I'll miss it in some odd ways.

About all the early bits how it didn't need to justify it's revenue and that it was wholly owned by the tech side? and the amount of money sank into it, without accountability? or even the next sentence right after the one you quoted, you chose to leave out, that said:

I'm not trying to take any of your enjoyment of the service away... I'm just saying, being familiar with it, I stand by my original statement
 
I totally forgot about ps home. I remember there was so much hype for this I downloaded it and deleted it the same day a never looked back

Um, how does that sentence prove that they lost money on it? He is literally just saying it wasn't profitable at the start because they were more focused on making something cool but became profitable later.

because they sunk uncounted, and unaccountable amount of resources into something that didn't have a proper P&L? and it was running like, 6000 people concurrently worldwide on it without a real monetaization plan (which is as good as 0 people), and then when it moved departments and they started monetizing and 'it was profitable,' from his perspective, doesn't really take into account the full picture, does it. they also refuse to let the service be audited and they would never share de-duped or unique users and usage rates, nor provide proper reporting, so they need to be taken at face value anyway, which just isn't a trustworthy business practice, especially since they were trying to broadly sell inventory there
 
Always loved the idea, tried it out only to get lost and deleted it after 5 minutes. Interesting ideas and after reading some peoples thoughts, it turned out to be better than I had imagined. Its really a shame to see it go.

Last I checked they are still fully supporting PS Now on PS3 and aren't closing up shop on that console. It's totally cool if you spent time and money in this thing but you don't need to try and convince people it lived up to the promise of the reveal.

while I agree it is possible Sony has probably not made the money back it invested initially i still think them running the service all these years means it started making them some meaningful amount of money. an article released today tells that many developers made money as well some in 7 figures which is kinda crazy.

Players loved to spend money on virtual items - the ARPUs were great.
