PS3 UT3 interview

USB cable extension allows me to type from my couch. Same goes for mice.

Also, Unreal Tournament on the PS2 allowed you to customize the controls so you could use a Dual Shock and Mouse. Although with all the complaints of folks not having the physical attributes required to hold a Wiimote around here; I could imagine the burden of holding the ergonomically sound Six Axis / Dual Shock in one hand. :P

But yeah, there's no need for this peripheral if the input device support for UT3 is as robust as it was with UT.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like anybody on the UT3 is on the same page. It was previously confirmed that it would support KB&M and now this guy has no clue. WTF?

How do you use the mouse from your couch? Some type of peripheral?

Anyway lets all complain about K&M support in one place and hopefully Mark reads GAF:

Do you have anything to say about rumours that a game set in the Gears of War universe could be coming to PS3?

That's not going to happen, because Microsoft own the license to that series.

Didn't think so and it looks like 30fps it is.

It's a magical peripheral known as a coffee table. :lol

Although I know some pudwhacker is going to come in with the "I'm not all growed up I don't have a coffee table in my mom's basement", to which I can attest - A phone book is fine too!

I love that they drilled him on the mod scene. I find it mega corny they are gonna force you to buy the PC version to do mods. PS3 supports keyboard and mouse so that is no excuse. Also they should have taken their time and created a content submittle interface like Little Big Planet to make the process easier and for people to judge content etc. I hope they give PS3 people the option for Keyboard and mouse to play the game and also native PS3 mod creation software. They should do that via download but no reason to spend 120 dollars just for the option to create maps and such

Good interview, quick notes

-they're not sure yet whether to implement M+K because of the balance issue between the two controller types
-The game is also running at 720p at 30fps. I'm a bit disappointed since I was hoping for 60, but oh well
-No level editor for PS3 version(which I expected)
-And lastly they say they're aiming for 20 players per game, again I'd feel a little disappointed. I wanted 32(like the PC version) or at least a minimum of 24

Ugh. I hope they don;t leave out M+K.

No M+K, no sale.

Why do people keep posting this awful garbage?

PS3 has native USB KB&M SUPPORT!

You don't need shit third party peripherals.
Ya I'm not feeling the look of that thing :/

It took us a year after Xbox 360 and here we are less than a year after PlayStation 3 and I'd say that today Unreal Tournament 3 runs better on PS3 than Gears did on Xbox 360 at the same point in its development. So, that bodes well for how well the engine will run on PS3 as we're already ahead of where I thought we'd be in terms of optimisations.

Wow great news, they seem really confident with the PS3 version of UE3.

Ha Joystik just had to get smart with Rein

Do you not see that as a bit harsh? You're asking PS3 users who want to create content for the PS3 to buy two versions of the game.

Well, they have to make it on a PC anyway. How else are they going to do it?

Will you not lose out on PS3 sales, or 360 sales in the long run, because of that?

No, I don't think so. It just makes sense. People who create content have to buy a modelling package if they want to create models. They have to buy a Photoshop equivilent if they want to make textures. They have to buy audio recording software if they want to edit audio. Or video editing software if they want to edit video on a PC.

But if you want to edit a video on a PC and then play it on a PS3, you simply have to convert it. You don't have to buy the software again for the PS3. If you can see where I'm coming from.

Not really. It's not like our game is $500. Our game is not the cost of 3D Studio Max or Photoshop.

Are mods going to be gimped on the 360 due to the closed nature of Xbox Live?

We have no idea what we're going to do yet on 360.

So there may not even be mods on the 360?

We don't know.

Some of those questions were pretty asinine

And then this!

So how long do you think it will be after Unreal Tournament 3 ships that we will start seeing Halo mods for the PS3?

Halo mods?
:lol

Mark Rein is legit.

That interviewer was pretty stupid with those leading questions that Rein shut down real quick. Also note that Rein said they own the license for the series, not the IP. Could mean they currently own the exclusive rights.

"Using a PC as a server for PS3 games?

Yes. Absolutely. There's no question that that's something that people want and which we want. We want to be able to tell our publisher "hey, we want you to go out and host a hundred servers for the PS3" so that there are loads of high bandwidth dedicated servers on day one. So they'll go to a hosting service which has racks and racks of Linux boxes and they'll host the servers and they'll click the box which says "advertise to PS3." For sure, that's a benefit. People also ask us whether we'll support keyboard and mouse on PS3."

First non-Sony game to have dedicated servers?

The game is also running at 720p at 30fps. I'm a bit disappointed since I was hoping for 60, but oh well
I would love 60 as well, but UT is a variable game. The on-screen action can vary so heavily from moment to moment and it would be easy to kill the framerate. Hopefully they'll be able to hold 30 fps throughout the vast majority of scenarios. I'm sure they could hit 60 fps right now in many instances, but too many drops to 30 fps would feel terrible.

If they can give mouse/keyboard to the PS2 version and the online DC version of UT and go back on their confirmation of m/kb for the PS3 version, well, then shit on them.

PS3 is not locked down like the 360, there's no reason why any dev can't support mouse and keyboard. I'd be highly disappointed if games like HL2 and CoD4 don't support it.

Wasn't planning on getting this (with all the other stuffà, but now with confirmed mod-support for the ps3 version the amount of content will be so much it'll be insane and be pretty unique. I hope moders will support the ps3 version heavily. I'm glad Sony isn't limiting Epic's potential.

I hope Sony experiments mod support (pc toolset) for some of their first party shooters.

hopefully they allow you to turn off auto aim.

i have one. It works terribly with resistance... no PC-like performance at all.

Let me put it this way: - imagine a mouse with ball (old mouses) with thick dust and dead insects and French fries pieces covering the ball.
Thats how smooth it is.

Some buttons are also messed up. Only half of the D-pad works ok, the other half i have to breathe strongly because of the strength needed to make them work.

Very disappointed.
