PS4-Gaf: review your launch titles

Killzone - 6, I am hating the campaign and no one to play with online. All my work friends, and friends friends bought Ghosts or BF4.

Resogun - 8, I want to be good but it's hard. Love the music though.

Contrast - 4, I know why this game is free. No one would have ever bought this for 15 bucks.

Warframe - 4, plays worse on the PS4 than it did on my PC.

Flower - 7, beat it once and I'm not doing it again. Wife likes it.

Sound Scapes - 7, already played the hell out of it on my Vita.

I really want to buy NBA 2k14 but I just dunno.

Using the entire range where 5 is average...

Killzone SP - 6
Knack - 5
Resogun - 8

All I've played so far.

Damn is ACIV really that good? I was going to pick up Killzone and Battlefield but I might drop the latter if you guys are positive about it.

Killzone 7/10

Beat single player on normal, 16 hours of MP. Solid game but not mind-blowing (graphics are mind-blowing at times)

RESOGUN 10/10

Cleared on rookie, working on experienced... the look the feel, of voxels. The fabric of our universe.

Haven't played anything else enough to form opinion.

If you know about my site, you can get more in-depth reviews there.

Killzone - You already bought a PS4, so BUY.

Call of Duty: Ghosts - Surprisingly interesting SP campaign and amazing textures/lighting, so BUY

Assassin's Creed - either you like the series or you don't.

Resogun - this is 'fun', so BUY

I guess I really only got the games I knew I would enjoy, and avoided the ones I was skeptical about.

I haven't finished contrast or resogun, so I won't give an incomplete rating for them.

CoD: Ghosts - 8, maybe an 8.5 if patches keep fixing things. Single player was solid, and fun to replay through.
Killzone - 8.5 for the first few levels, but the last levels drag it down to a 7. The GG employee who suggested the floating levels should be shot. Unrepeatable because of the final 3 levels.

Killzone is going back tomorrow and I'm picking up assassin's creed. I only just finished assassin's creed 2 in october (my only finished AC game), so I don't have the burnout that other people will with the series.

Asscreed is a 9 for me, Nba is an 8, knack, KZ, bf are a 5

Bf score would be way better if it worked.

Resogun - 9/10 - free game that's great and addictive!

NFS Rivals - 8.5/10 - really good and enjoyable

BF4 - 7.5/10 - works, is fun, 64P not working is what brings it down for me

COD - 6/10 - not a fan of the maps, campaign was fun

KZ - 4/10 - This score is low because I've spent little to no time with it and not because it's a bad game... so in that case, the value FOR ME is low.

Killzone - really pretty but piss poor sp, fantastic mp. - 8/10

Knack - decent. really challenging at times (even on normal) - 7/10

BF4 - broken piece of dog shit - 0/10

NBA2K14 - great graphics, same janky-ass gameplay. still fun to play with friends - 8/10

Resogun - game of the launch - 10/10

Haven't played AC4, Warframe, DCOU, Contrast or Blacklight yet.

AC IV: 9/10
+ Tons and tons of missions in the main campaign with lots of variety. I'm only about 40% done but I feel like I've already played a full game.
+ Starts you out in an open environment immediately, great improvement over AC3.
+ Surprisingly good writing and characters. I like the cast of pirates and they avoid being cheesy pirate stereotypes.
+ The bonus Aveline missions were cool and left me wanting more. Felt much more like Uncharted.
+ Insane amount of side activities. You can spend an hour pirating, then stumble across a warehouse stealth mission, then end up exploring a smuggler's cave or a small village.
+ Storm and weather effects are crazy good.
+ Stealth is vastly improved over previous AC games with better level layouts to support it.
- combat is too easy and with little challenge or strategy to it
- too many tailing missions FFS

Warframe 8/10
+ Satisfying combat and melee. Pretty typical, but mixed with four player co-op it's fun.
+ Cool Left 4 Dead style randomness to encounters.
- Had some difficulty finding players to fill games, game just isn't fun solo.
Haven't gotten very far in the game yet, but as a time waster it seems like a solid game especially for the price ; ) Haven't unlocked powers or much gear which should make it more interesting.

Flower 10/10
+ I really love this game. It's beautiful, short, and sweet.
+ Unique and simple controls, really relaxing and enjoyable.
+ Gorgeous visuals made even better by 60FPS. Silky smooth and crisp.
One of the best surprises of last gen, made even better. Worth a replay in 60fps or buying if you've never played it before. Good use of that 10 dollar credit that comes with the PS4.

Resogun - no score
+ The graphics are great, except the enemies and UI look a little boring.
Only gave it one play and it didn't do too much for me. Though from all the great reviews and impressions on GAF, I'm holding out judgement until I give it another shot.

Contrast 0/10
- Horrible voice acting and writing.
- Terrible controls and game feel, combined with amateurish level design - feels like a student project.
- Cheesy art direction.
- Unsatisfying puzzles and conclusion.
- For me this is a big sore spot in the PS4 launch.

Killzone: C-. SP was pretty average and while MP was fun at first the game has declined into a team camping the other teams spawn site. Game is incredibly beautiful though.

Knack: C. Playing it on hard. It's really challenging and rewarding and looks good for the most part too.

Resogun: A. It's awesome.

NBA 2K: B. Looks and plays great but it is needlessly obtuse.

Glad to hear about AC4. It is waiting to be played as soon as I am done with Knack. Shame about BF4 though. I held off cause of the horror stories form the PC launch sounds like it was a good idea. Hopefully they fix it soon so I can buy it.

Resogun: 7/10
CoD Ghosts: 6/10
Battlefield 4: 4/10

1 = terrible, 3 = bad, 5 = mediocre, 7 = good, 9 = outstanding, 10 = glorious

Need for speed rivals- 8/10 Beautiful graphics and fun game play.
Madden 25- 6/10 Ugly and feels half assed.
Killzone- 6/10 Just all around disappointing.
Knack- 7/10 Really enjoying this a lot!
Resogun- 6/10 I'm finding this zero fun.
Assassins creed bf- 8/10 Feels a lot better than Ac3, very fun.

Knack - 6/10
Although I'm only 3 hours in. It's not awful. It's sort of like gaming comfort food. It doesn't surprise you much but it's fun when you're in the mood.

Killzone - 9/10
I never liked the Killzone series much but it's hard to not like this one. The mechanics are really tight and the gunplay feels near perfect. The multiplayer in particular is an absolute blast. I wish the levels were larger and more open but aside from that, I'm having an awesome time with it. A seriously underrated game for sure.

Flower - 9/10
I had already played it on the PS3 but wow is it beautiful on the PS4.

BF4 9/10 (when it eventually starts working)
I've played a bunch of it on PC in the past weeks so I know it's amazing. I'm really impressed by the PS4 version. It seems to be mostly the PC at medium settings but it still looks great.

Resogun - 8/10
Really fun. I've quite broadcasting my high score run (even though I'm not very good at it)

Assassin's Creed IV - 6/10
I've only loved the second game in the series. This seems to be another lackluster dispassionate game alongside the last few. Still, the boat stuff is fun.

Warframe - 7/10
Only played it briefly but it seems to have a lot of promise. I don't think it'll be a game I'll play much but I'm glad it's on the system at launch. I can see a lot of people really getting into this. Awesome art direction too.

I adjusted the title to encourage actual discussion and to reflect that note in the FAQ Forum which clearly states:
If you are posting a discussion topic, think about whether the subject has merit. Topics which exist only to ask a yes/no question with no room for actual discussion, or topics which exist only encourage subsequent replies consisting of lists or rankings are generally discouraged. Note that this category also includes unsanctioned "Vote for your favourite" threads

After a few pages if the ongoing content is primarily just rankings or lists with no elaboration, the thread has to be locked :((((

Dem Knack scores.

They seem in line with what reviewers said, don't they?

Despite that there are some people trying to make out that the game is severely underrated by reviewers and that the love the game gets on GAF is proof of that.

Resogun - Adriana Lima
FIFA 14 - Rosie Huntington-Whitely
Killzone - Alessandra Ambrosio
Knack - Gisele Bundchen
BF4 - Tom Brady

Knack: 7/10
Killzone: 7.5/10
Resogun: 8/10
Contrast: 6/10; Worth the time investment but maybe not the price without PS+.

Killzone: Shadow Fall
Looks really impressive, I guess, definitely the best IQ I've ever seen first hand. (even though PC games looked this good in 2007, supposedly...) Not feeling the art or the story but that's more or less how I've felt about every Killzone. (why do I keep buying them?) I hated the gameplay at first too, but that's because I made the mistake of playing it like Killzone 2/3. Shadowfall makes it much more difficult to go up against more than a few enemies at once and there's a lot of new tactics and strategies available, so in that way it's definitely the best Killzone to date and the first that I've actually enjoyed playing. It's still got all the same technical issues that KZ3 had, including glitchy and unpredictable graphics and audio at times. I'd say that if you're choosing between this and Knack because you want a true "next-gen" game and don't want to wait for Infamous: Second Son to come out, go with this.

Assassin's Creed IV
I had no intention of buying this, Assassin's Creed 3 was a major let-down and the promotional material made this look even worse, I would not have gotten this if Watch_Dogs had not been delayed. However, I was pleasantly surprised: this is the best Assassin's Creed to date. Which is to say, the combat and parkour are just as automated as before, but the navel combat is amazing and actually requires some kind of skill and long-term tactics. Looks like a dream to boot

Also gonna use the Yes/No system

ACIV Yes!! Probably my favorite of the next-gen titles
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Yes, easily the best Lego game out
Killzone No, as impressive as the visuals are, the game just isn't all that much fun
Battlefield 4 Yes, but only if you don't have a good PC to support it
COD: Ghosts No, unless you're a die hard COD fan, Ghosts doesn't offer anything spectacular, and also doesn't really look that much better than current gen iterations
Resogun Yes, aside from being free, this is the Geometry Wars of 2013, and it's awesome
Contrast No, sure it's free, but damn is it buggy. The story is somewhat cool, but damn the bugs keep pulling me out of it.
NFS: Rivals Yes, aside from the amazing visuals, the driving is just plain fun. Wish they would have stuck with a more city/urban setting like in Most Wanted, but nevertheless, still cool

Killzone: 9/10

call of duty ghosts: 7/10

Battlefield 4: 0/10 (i mean it doesnt work so how could you possibly rate it any higher?)

Ugh thats a lot of fps games. I need to play ac4 this weekend.

Resogun - 9/10: Great shooter, really makes me pine for a bullet hell shooter on the platform.
Killzone - 8/10: Beautiful, love the story so far (Chapter 7 at the moment)
Knack - 7.5/10: Heavily under-rated game. Love the gameplay and the co-op is fun. I feel it's lacking some balance tuning. Most importantly, inventions should unlock faster since they can add some additional depth to the gameplay (I'm at Chapter 9 and I only have the Relic Detector and Double Battery thus far).

Killzone-6/10. Game is beautiful, but the single player leaves a lot to be desired, and although the multiplayer checks most of the boxes of what you would want, it's just boring.

COD:Ghosts-COD/10. It's COD, so everyone should know what to expect at this point. Some of the maps are way too big though.

NBA2K14-9/10. Incredible graphics, with some minor animation issues

Assassins Creed-Incomplete. I haven't actually played it yet

Resogun-8/10. Very fun, but I wish there were more ships and levels

Battlefield- Fucking broken/10. Can't play conquest, can't play single player because of corrupted saves

Almost forgot:

Contrast - Solid game. But the camera is pretty bad and the execution, as a whole, is lackluster. Wouldn't buy.

Blacklight - Surprisingly fun. It could probably be really fun with a group of players who communicate. I'd definitely recommend downloading this and checking it out. I just wish the UI was more responsive and clear. Killzone needs some UI cleansing, too!

AC IV: 9/10. Especially after renting the shittier-framerate, muted-colors, jagged mess that was the PS3 version of the game. This game is gorgeous and smooth, and open world gameplay which I love. The pirating theme gives me feelings of a next generation Sid Meier's Pirates and that is outstanding. The feeling of the open sea with your crew singing a shanty while you spot a ship off in the distance with your spy-glass with realistic weather and great water physics. I really hope they explore this further and maybe even split this off as a separate franchise sticking to the pirating time periods of early European colonialism.

NFS 8/10: Open world racing in a similar style of the old Burnout games as far as car control, boost, etc. Great job with the 2 factions and multiplayer. 30fps is controllable locally on the PS4 just fine, but becomes not responsive enough on remote play, especially when being fed-back at 30fps on the stream, possibly causing 2 frame input lag overall. Pleasant surprise though and I bought it based on word-of-mouth from GAF.

Killzone ?/10: Gorgeous game but the lengthy single player campaign tutorial start where you sit around and listen to exposition after trying to move around as a child for a long period of time, I got bored with it and switched games. I haven't gone back yet. Have contemplated selling it after hearing about how there's no voice comms, no way to be on a team with your friends, etc. But since so many people are undercutting full prices due to the B2G1 sales, I can't get enough for it to be worthwhile. Amazon and Craigslist are sitting at $40 per game.

Resogun 9/10: Outstanding next-gen Defender-style shooter with easier to control shooting since you can shoot forward and backward. Different ships you can choose from exhibit noticeable differences in game-play. The 1080p/60 is gorgeous and also allows a direct connection remote play to be viable with as minimal of input lag as can be achieved it seems.

DC Online Universe: 6/10: Not enjoying this game. Feels like a mediocre attempt at City of Heroes with an engine that feels just as old. Boring game with limited moves and not enough fun to keep plugging away at it.

I tried to avoid the games that just weren't as well reviewed like Knack and CoD. BF scared me off by the glitches, so maybe later. Not sure what else I would want to buy, though FIFA and NBA 2K seemed like decent buys. But this is all I have so far. I have downloaded the other f2p games but haven't tried them yet.

Killzone - 6, I am hating the campaign and no one to play with online. All my work friends, and friends friends bought Ghosts or BF4.

Go search for the Killzone SF OT or multiplayer thread and hook up with some GAF players. I won't be on for a while or I'd extend the offer myself.

Knack 8.5/10 - really really happy with this one. Favorite PS4 game, followed closely by...
Resogun 8/10 So fun.
Need For Speed 7.5/10
Killzone 5/10 Already traded it in. Gorgeous graphics, but I wasn't a fan of anything else at all

Also enjoying Contrast, Flower, and Soundshapes but I don't feel like I've spent enough time with them to give them a score.

Resogun: 8/10
Would have gave it a 9, but it has some quirks that need to be patched. (Like the seemingly random release/death of a couple of humans every stage - at the very least, they should be identified as having special requirements to release).

Knack: 6/10
Simple, fun game. Nothing great, and nothing bad.

Injustice: 7/10
Never played the original, so it's all new to me. Would have gotten an 8 if it had stick support.

All in all, good launch lineup - I'm saving Killzone for later in the year, and am really looking forward to the indy games like Binding of Issac this year. I guess my only letdown was Knack - I was expecting a little bit more out of it. They got the difficulty right, but it fell a little flat on the depth.

AC IV 9/10 but I am still not finished with it sadly.

Resogun 9/10 Probably the best launch game the PS4 has to offer. Addicting and challenging. Can't wait for more ships and levels. Oh and it is free with PS+. No excuses to avoid this.

Contrast 6/10 love the style and the story is interesting but it feels half finished, buggy, and the platforming is awful. Eh, it's free though with PS+.

Resogun - 9/10
This one will be short-lived as far as regular play goes, but it's pretty great. Another Geometry Wars / Pac-Man. I don't love the multiplier timer on Experienced (too many runs restarted over a split-second delay!), but the rest is tops. Would have paid the $15 happily.

Contrast - 5/10
Fun for a morning, which was about how long it took to finish (playing on and off, missed 2-3 collectibles). The score would drop if it was longer though, not enough "hook" in the hook to sustain a lengthy game. Would have been pissed if I spent $15.

Killzone: SF - 6/10 (so far)
Played some of the SP and just found nothing to pull me in. I'll get back in and finish it later, but nothing about it so far is compelling. It may be better later, we'll see.

Flower - 8/10
Finished it on the PS3. Like many games, when I play it in higher resolution I go "yay, it looks better" for about 2 minutes and then forget about it. The control improvements are a much bigger deal for me than the graphic ones.

SoundShapes - 8/10
Same as above - played the Vita version. The lights and sounds on the controller are neat for 30 seconds. The rest is the same game.

Resogun 9/10
BF4 7/10 really upset its still broke, would given it a higher number if conquest worked.
Warframe 8/10
Contrast 7/10 not my type of game

I'm from europe and so will be getting my ps4 at launch next week. Just wanted to ask some advice on the launch titles.

So far I'll be buying Fifa 14, Need for speed rivals and a shooter and really not sure which one to get.

From people who have played both is killzone or bf4 the better game. kinda want one that will last a while and I want to play multiplayer a lot

Well, AC4 and COD are 1080p console exclusives :)
Don't understand why people love AC4. It looks like the same boring shit to me, but I haven't gotten to the ship combat, maybe that's what's fun?

Assassin's Creed IV: A-
The pirate stuff is great, and the regular AC stuff is less annoying than in past games. Stealth actually seems viable for once.
Knack: C
Knack would be a good game if it actually was the throwback platformer we were promised and not just a difficult Lego game devoid of creativity.
Contrast: C
Interesting concept that's poorly executed. Glitchy, too.
Flower: B
Still good on PS4, but it looks ever better.
