PS4 reselling dilemmas, strategies, and more...

This thread makes me happy I my buyer flaked on my and never paid. Now I'm enjoying the hell out of my ps4 and avoided these headaches.

There were a few ads every day for $500. That was only $60 more than I paid with tax and launch shipping.
I just kept it and I'm glad I did.

It's not about the games, there are just a lot of consoles out there...

Really looking forward to seeing the resell prices for the Xbox One.

It may suck for resellers and scalpers as the competition increases but it seems that Sony has done a good job when it came to supply.

Craigslist in my area must be pretty scarce in regards to PS4. I've had mine listed for $600 since Saturday. Someone emailed me today and we ended up in agreement for $580. I got about $20 back in best buy certificates buying it so did pretty well considering I only waited a couple hours to buy it. Got my amazon one preorder for myself so overall not bad.

Now I have to decide if I see one in store if it's worth buying and trying again

I have a funny feeling that even with Sony shipping a lot of PS4s, the holiday stretch is when the resellers market will take off.

Parents tend to start their holiday shopping around Black Friday, and they're the ones who will typically pay exorbitant prices for the latest hot console that their child and all his friends are dying for. Hardcore gamers likely know better (and are also probably less well-heeled) than to spend hundreds over the retail price. Also, parents aren't going to follow trade magazines or sites that talk about impending console releases, so at a console's launch, you're not going to see your average American parent aware of that launch. The tepid resellers market right now reflects that.

The big three always want their consoles to be the "it" item that Christmas where every news network can't shut up about that one toy that is in high demand. That "it" factor isn't going to come from a console that is in stock everywhere you look. Tickle Me Elmo was a piece of crap toy that was worth it's weight in gold, only because it was extremely hard to find in stores. Sony knows this, and will likely hold supplies back to gain such a fervor around the PS4.

I could be completely off-base here, but historically I think this is the most likely scenario.

I'm banking on this. If it doesn't happen on or around Black Friday, I'm shipping it back to Amazon.

I'm hoping for this also, but will probably wait until the 10th to send mine back. I posted this article a few weeks ago and I'm banking on the kids for the holidays.

Kids' No. 1 holiday wish? PS4 for boys (CNET)

The iPhone wasn't the most popular choice of gadget among boys. They -- clearly needing to release copious amounts of pent-up boyishness -- chose the PlayStation 4 as their No. 1.

However, such was the iPhone dominance among the girls' desires (41 percent) that the overall results gave Apple the win.

i don't have to resell but apparently my brother is getting a PS4 as a gift in christmas so there goes my plan to hook him up.

I now have 2 PS4s and i am getting xbox one on friday so i guess this baby will go back to amazon or i will keep it.

Funny enough my friend sold to his coworker his extra ps4 for nothing extra whatsoever since there was such a huge amount of stock that people are just waiting.

And even more hilarious if he had waited a week more I would have bough it from him. fml.

Not sure how anybody is making a profit on ps4s. I was just at my local best buy taking advantage of their $100 promo for turning in ps3 or xbox360 and they had 15 ps4s available for sale. They said a lot of returns already likely from people that bought them thinking they could turn a quick profit coupled with a handful that never came in to pick their preorder up.

Just shaking my head at the people in here still telling themselves prices are going to go back up closer to xmas. You're deluding yourselves.

My anecdote, I called my best buy, two wal-marts, three gamestops, and a target yesterday looking for one 'cause I'm too impatient to wait for Sony to get my broken one back to me. All of them were sold out, one Gamestop employee even laughed at the question.

I was put on hold for a good while at two of the three gamestops, so I assume they're getting a decent amount of calls.

Hey, it could happen. It's not going to. But, it could.

My local craigslist has a good amount listed at $500 which I assume aren't selling. Sub-$500 are starting to pop up. Seems if you didn't sell Friday or Saturday at $600, you've missed the boat. Kind of strange given what I just posted above about none of the local stores having stock.

I'm rather happy the resell market isn't like it has been before. Never approved of this type of thing. Good job on sony with getting adequate consoles on the market.

I thought everyone knew this. That's why I sold mine before launch for 650-700 and was happy. Earlier is better.

Yup, I jumped on it Thursday night/Friday morning and made around $250 profit between the two Playstation 4's I sold.

I sold mine a week ahead of time to friends of friends. $200-300 a unit with no shipping since Amazon handled it. Love it.

Eh, I just sold my one extra for $550 today, tired of waiting til black friday. Congrats to you guys selling for 650+.

So I sold a PS4 on eBay last week and now the buyer opened a case on me saying that the product was defective.

Why open a case? Why not just contact me first?

Anyways, they want a refund and to send the product back to me. I told them to contact Sony with regards to their "defective" console. They're now saying that they can't contact Sony because they didn't buy it from a retailer, I did. Is this true?

What are my options fellow GAFers?

If you are cynical, it sounds like they are trying to scam you.
You could always offer to send your receipt to them.

What the fuck is going on over at eBay? How come I'm seeing so many Xbox Ones ending auctions for barely over market value so close to the launch date?

Because scalping is becoming less and less profitable due to cheaper and more efficient chinese labor being able to kick out massive supply.

Lack of interest.

Yeah, this isn't normal for a system that literally just came out. I still see a few that go for good margins but for it to already be collapsing isn't a good sign. I guess we'll have to wait for the NPD to know the full story though but it appears that the pent-up demand for additional stock isn't that high.

Because people are entitled fucks and eBay, Amazon and co. give in to their every whim.
How could they scam me if they're willing to send the console back to me?

Different console/controller, different innards, box filled with rocks, etc...

Oh okay.

One more thing, the receipt has the last four digits of my CC number. Should I leave it or black it out?

Its basically down to $500 on Ebay. The next shipment will likely kill the resell market.

The only reason it isnt dead already is because of Black Friday.
Alot of retailers are withholding stock to draw people in Friday.
E.G. my Walmart is sitting at least 15, and will probally get another shipment in this week.

When I sent my DOA PS4 to Sony, I didn't send a receipt. The guy told me I needed to, I said there wasn't one 'cause I bought it on Amazon, he said it'd be fine without. I got my fixed system back no problem. There's obviously no way any systems are out of warranty yet, so they don't really care.

My local best buy is sitting on XOne's for Black Friday. Not PS4s, though. Guy I talked to had zero clue when they'd have more. Straight up told me midnight on Black Friday for XBox, though.

eBay makes it too fucking easy to scam a seller.

This person has been a member since 2010 with 100% feedback. They have over 100 transactions during that time.

Because of that I'm keeping an open mind.

I'll let you guys know how he responds.

I love it when scalpers get hosed!

Saw a dude flipping one at the Post Office yesterday. Changing labels to the new address. Kinda pathetic.
