PS4 supports only 4 controllers compared to XBO's 8

I don't know why so many people are writing this off, it is something that affects lots of gamers, especially those who play sports and music games with friends.

Sending audio over i would guess?.
Sending audio should be a flipable switch that could be disabled to allow for more controllers.

Even though it's a rarely used feature, doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. I'm actually a bit disappointed about this. A few of my friends usually have a couple of NHL gaming sessions a year that won't really be possible anymore.

Lan? for the cost of 8 ds4 you might as well buy a new tv another ps4 and four controllers hahaha.

Hmm, it does sound like playing that many people in like a basketball game would be cool. I'm never going to do that though. But someone out there would.

No one cared about the limit on 360, no one will care about the limit on ps4, your talking 1% or lower.

Why did you quote him and dismiss everything he said. HE is SOMEONE, not NO ONE. He specifically mentioned music games. Rock Band 3 on PS3 did not get 5 player support because the Xbox was limited to 4 players. Harmonix didn't want to let one console have something over the other. Vocalists in a 5 player game were not scored as they were no longer a "player" once the player count went to 5.

It affected people. Just because something doesn't affect YOU, doesn't mean it affects "no one".

1% or lower is not "no one".

edit - to be fair, seeing who posted what you quoted, I wonder if agenda is involved in his opinion this time, but still. His point is valid.

Surprised they would go this way, but I honestly can't think of the last time I played a game with more than 4 players, including rockband.

No it does not. Nobody plays sports games with 8 players, nobody.

It's cool, I barely have eight friends I know who would want to come over to play some local. That is even getting them together with their busy schedules, haha. Four is absolutely fine and anymore is a bullet point.

Okay, I admit that 7/8 players sounds pretty cool with some sports games, but I don't care about sports games, or any of those trivia/party games, so eh.

Sucks for the people that use it though.

8 controllers always seemed cool, but they cost $50+ each and the feature is really only used in sports games. 8 player madden sounds awful.

Hell, many games don't even offer local 4 player split screen anymore.

I never saw anyone post about the 4 player limit on 360 being an issue mate ever anywhere.

More players the better.

I am one of those people that can get 8 controllers and 8 people to play with, that's why Nintendo Land is awesome. Able to play 5 people with at same time is great :D!

K. Guess you never visited the Harmonix forums when it was revealed how 5 players would work on both consoles and saw all the PS3 Rock Band fans up in arms because a 360 limitation infected their console's version and 360 fans upset that Microsoft's hardware couldn't support enough controllers for Harmonix to make the game they wanted.

Again, just because "you" didn't see it doesn't mean "no one cares".

Oh yeah. Forgot about that. I wonder if that will be an issue at all this gen though. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

When will you use more than 1? Local split-screen/couch co-op has been almost dead this gen and more than not will be dead next gen unless you are nintendo. Funny because game devs want to portray more social gaming through online play but got rid of local split-screen which is a more social aspect of gaming IMO. And what is up with most (non-cart) racers having no split-screen?

I don't know if this was already mentioned but you can easily have more than 4 controller connections with Rock Band/Guitar Hero.

PS3 had 7 and I can only think of 2 games that used more than 4.

Well the OP has a list of lots more than 2 games and that was only through 2011.

Not scored. 5 players were supported but only if the vocalist was no longer scored as a "player" in Rock Band 3 which really made the scored player count 4 and Harmonix said it was due to 360's "4 controllers max" limitation.

People actually play sports games with more than 2 people? I always hated playing football games where i had to be the stupid running back or receiver. Was super, super lame.

That first part is simply untrue (or exaggerated), see:

I would strongly argue that local co-op has enjoyed a renaissance this gen. Here, let me prove it:

Number of PS3 games with at least 2 player local co-op: 199 games.
Number of PSN games with at least 2 player local co-op: 149 games.
Number of 360 games with at least 2 player local co-op: 249 games.
Number of XBLA games with at least 2 player local co-op: 201 games.

See? There's a ton of co-op games available. I bet that's not only significantly more than last gen but also far more than the rose-tinted N64 days too.

If next gen has as many local co-op games as this gen I would be very, very happy. Unfortunately we're off to a bad start with Killzone dropping its splitscreen mode as far as we know. Killzone 3 was fantastic in splitscreen.

You don't think Europeans or anyone who enjoys FIFA will buy it unless it's free? I personally don't care for it but that game is huge globally.

Yeah but this particular issue isn't going to really sway people towards the other console. That really wasn't my intent with this topic to begin with. I just felt that a feature removed from PS3 on PS4 was threadworthy.

In no way do I think this issue will have an impact on system sales.

I've never even owned eight controllers for the same system, nor do I play sports games, so this doesn't concern me at all.

Yes, lots of people, obviously.

Another day and another pointless number to brag about.

There is a 5 Player Mode on Rayman Legends/Sonic/Mario/Nintendoland on Wii U
