PS4 won't accept discs?

So I bought my PS4 a couple years ago. Use it quite a bit.

But last week, I went to play some Bloodborne, I grabbed the disc, put it near the lip of the disc slot. Usually the PS4 sucks the disc in at this point, but this time it didn't do anything.

I can sorta force the disc into the slot, but the motors that would suck the disc weren't moving. When i press the eject button, it tries ejecting, i can hear the motors turning, but nothing comes out. I turned it on and off a few times, did a rebuild database, removed the leg thing near the eject button, turned the screw inside the ps4. Nothing has worked so far.

It seems like the PS4 can't sense that im trying to insert a disc.

Pretty bad time for it to happen since Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted 4 are just around the corner :(

Any suggestions would be great. Otherwise I think i'll have to send it to sony for repairs anyone know how much it costs? Would it be better off just buying the uncharted ps4 bundle....
And then there's the rumored PS4K.....

Welcome to my the digital life.

Only options are to get a new one or send it to Sony for lots of money. (assuming your warranty is dead in the water.)

If it's still under warranty just contact Sony and send it back. I fear this happening to both my consoles and sadly my warranty on both my PS4 and Xbox are expired. Goodluck !

Not sure exactly how much it would be, but $150 is a safe bet.

I actually had mine serviced for this just last week (only took 9 days total, which was unexpectedly quick). Glad I pulled the trigger on the extended warranty. Not something I used to do, but after last gen, I kind of assume the worst with these dumb consoles.

Edit: I doubt it'll make a difference, but their official troubleshooting line on this is power off, unplug from the wall, wait five minutes, turn back on.

Sony sales their own cheap protection plan . Given the build quality of their gaming hardware I'd recommend buying it right before your product hits the one year mark.

Happened to me sometimes. I just unplugged the PS4, left it for a bit then plugged it back in. Was fine after that and not had it since mind.

This happened to me a few months back. I took mine to uBreakiFix and they fixed it for $50. Got it back a day later too.

Here is a link to their website to see if there is a location near you.

Wow, there's a lot in Florida...Oh there's one right next to me!
Maybe I should take my PS4 in... (started shooting discs out when turned off, even)

That's weird that it'll ignore discs but still try to eject discs, OP.
Oh, I guess it happens... :|

Hmmm, this dude fixes... something, but he doesn't do a very good job at describing what the original problem is. Probably better to pay someone to fix it.

This is what I did, but it was my XBox that wouldn't take discs. A hard reset or unplug should do it.

Your PS4 is telling you to go digital homie. As to the actual problem the motor on the disc drive is most likely busted. Your options at this point are to either call Sony and get it repaired which will likely set you back at least $100 for repairs, buy a new system entirely or just simply continue to use the current PS4 by buying digital only.

This happens to me from time to time, it's weird that there's no buzz around this.

What I do to fix it OP is to check that the little gap under the eject button is clear, sometimes that little rubber press the button, so I ended up removing it. This week it happened to me again and the button was being pressed again.

Try that before taking it, or tell them to check the eject button itself.

Thanks everybody. I guess i'll just go for the repair

Probably the only permanent fix.

It's not a Sony console unless it has a Disc Read Error. While mostly digital I do have several discs (thanks to Amazon Primes pre-order disc only savings), but never leave them in my launch PS4 or Xbox One 1TB. Try and keep your console dust free with air cans or electronic blowers, and never use a lens cleaner in a slot loaded drive.

Good luck OP, hope you get it back before UC4 :)

My PS4 accepts discs but won't read them right and give corrupt data messages when trying to install. I sent it back for repair, and after four weeks it comes back with a note that they "found no issue after thorough search" and did nothing. Of course nothing was fixed and no discs worked besides blu-ray movies that had constant artifacting errors. The read errors clearly point it to being an issue with the Blu-ray drive so I thought I'd replace the laser part myself since it was already out of warranty, but after switching the laser it still exhibited the same issue, so it's probably an issue with the optical drive board or the PS4 mainboard itself. Unfortunately neither of those are replacable so I'm stuck with a PS4 that only works with digital titles. :(

Mine has been doing this. I had the foresight to get an extended warranty when I bought my PS4 after getting burnt by my first PS1, Xbox, 360 and Wii U. The general rule of thumb is if you buy a console in the first year it's been on the market, chances are it will break!

What? Do you think they also read data from the label side? The latest PS3 isn't slot loaded (it's a top/slide load) and there are sevral top load Blu-ray players and burners on the market. Don't make shit up.

My bad. I have never seen one before. Also it won't fix shit. My PS1 was top-loading and it stopping reading discs.

Ops issue is the slot won't take the disc at all. I had a PS3 do this, and the tray of one of my 360s stopped working. A top loader might not eliminate disc-read errors, but it would eliminate Ops problem.

It sound like he might have the disc eject problem a lot of launch PS4s have. If so there are temporary fixes.

I thought he was going for a "you don't win friends with salad" thing there.

It kinda doesn't, I have that problem, but my PS4 will take disc and just spit them back out. His sounds like a baby doing the "mmm-mmm, don't want mashed carrots, again," thing

When my first PS4 had the disc eject problem it would not accept discs at all.

Probably mentioned already, but you can open up and tighten the manual eject screw. Google it, it's pretty easy and it permanently fixed my problem where discs wouldn't go in and when they did they were ejecting on their own.

Mine does this too, kind of lame.

Tried manual screw fix but no work for me :(

Takes a few tries to get the disc out but it at least comes out.

OP, I also have the disc eject problem, started happening the last few months. I have the Destiny Edition PS4.

Yours sounds like the disc-eject problem to me too. Google it. There is a few fixes, one of those YMMV things.

For the one that said it doesn't sound like that -- well. when mine first spits out a disc it won't take any discs back until it's power cycled. Also there has been times where there is no disc in it at all, but it keeps beeping like it is trying to eject -- and then you can't load anything into it.

So I bought my PS4 a couple years ago. Use it quite a bit.

This used to happen to me.

Make sure your Ps4 isnt on a carpet or something that would rub up against its sensor.

Then once thats all good simply unplug it and wait a bit, plug it back in and it should work fine.

This happened to me before, was a roller on the inside. It was popped out of its socket. Opened up the PS4, took out the drive, disassembled the drive, popped roller back in and voila.

I've been able to correct this with the power cable trick mentioned in this thread. It's worth a try for sure. Keep it alive until PS4k!

reset the sensor.

Power down the PS4, unplug it, hit the power button couple times until it stops beeping. Then take glossy side cover where your hard drive is, use a flash light or your phone and find the screw that is in between the grill on that side(use youtube if you can't find it).

Twist the screw to the left for a turn of two.

Plugg power back in, hook up your controller through usb, turn on the PS4 while holding the power button till you hear a second beep then release. Let it boot into safe mode, turn on your controller that's hooked up to it via usb,l then choose rebuild data base.

If that doesn't work, Gamestop is doing a special trade in for working or non-working. If you can get it to release disc after what i explained take it to gamestop for trade in immediately and get one of the new models.
