PS4's next software update, Masamune, will be available on 10/28

Does this mean that I can play Samurai Warriors 4 with a friend who doesn't have the game? (For an hour at a time of course)

If so, my PS4 is ready.

Wonder what publisher say about SharePlay.

FIFA comes to mind.

I can really see a group of friends buying less copys because of this.

I still don't understand the massive noise about pausing downloads. It seems like a nice addition and yeah I agree it should have been there from the start, but 90% of my downloads occur while my system is in standby anyway, I don't remember the last time I had to actually download something with it turned on aside from a day 1 patch for a game I just bought.

What's the big deal?

It's mostly from people with bandwidth caps, which I can understand. I have unlimited bandwidth, so it doesn't really affect me.

If shareplay works as advertised Sony could have a winner here. This seems to me like a major feature, along with streaming and screen captures, can't wait to try it.

Got it, thanks. I imagine that for both to play together the game must have some sort of co-op and the developer has to implement the feature. Although I'm sure Sony will "demand" it.

It will be simpler then you think. You just log in as second player / guest like you would do local on PS4

Most surprising thing would be if your PSN account is automatically recognise and you can earn trophies with shareplay and not just some unnamed Guest account.

Turning every local-only couch game without network support into a game you can play over the internet seems quite exciting.

That's the thing. There's some local-only games currently on the system that I'd like to play online with friends, but I have a feeling it's going to be something that needs patched in by developers. If it's actually every game right out of the box somehow, that'd be amazing.

Does anybody know if share play works with more than 2 people? Would I be able to play Towerfall with 3 friends over the internet? If so that's pretty amazing.

It's just sending controller inputs (and video) over the Internet to P1 or P2 over the internet, like Remote Play. No game-specific customisation should be needed.

I've just got to know two things. Will this Toro dynamic theme be available to get on the EU store...

...and how much will it be.

Im willing to pay good bucks for this, so damn cute. :3

Sony will reply 'this is only for an hour at a time, and the experience will not be as good as owning the game. By allowing friends to trial the game like this, we anticipate the possibility of increased sales for your games'

You're assuming it'll work flawlessly, and that latency will not be an issue in the long run. It's a great feature, but I don't see people not buying copies cause of share play, other than testing a game out shared by you friend and not liking it, then again, you might like it and buy a game you weren't going to buy.

If they don't get shareplay to work at 1080p 60fps, they fucked up. I hate that their tech target 5mbit connections. That alone killed the PS TV.

There is no reason why that needs to be patched in by developers.

The PS4 does remote play already. All shareplay does it not target the Vita but the PS4 and is cross-account.

It will be highly dependent on the upstream of the host and the latency between host and client, though.

It doesn't target 1080p60, because the video encoder of the PS4 doesn't target that.

"Holy shit, PS4 can do that?"

The reaction I expect when more people hear about Share Play.

should we start a shareplay thread and give out psn id's to add as friends for people who want to share games and experiences with eachother? All the friends on my friends list are randoms and won't let me share most likely even though i would let them. Atleast here there is mutual respect and a sense of community.

IMHO : Respective OS team sizes ?
I would not be surprized to learn that MS have ten times the number of devs behind their OS development compared to Sony...Also PS4 OS is developed from scratch whereas MS can count on windows kernel foundation.

PS4 OS is built upon FreeBSD

Yes

I am pretty interested in the latency issue and how this turns out.

"Could" be a dealbreaker for some / many games.

Shareplay = Teamviewer.

This update is long in the tooth and they're still a lot of room for fixes. I (personally) don't care about dlna and media stuff since I use my ps4 to play but communications with friends downright sucks at times with messages (sent/received) and invitation delays (circle loading icon) both on the console and the app. That needs to be corrected and made efficient/seamless.
That should be priority one.

Everything else is adding lipstick on a pig. Hate to be a pessimist but I'm very skeptical about everything working as advertised. What bothers me more is that they're adding and building on a non-solid foundation.

Hope I'm wrong.

I'm getting increasingly concerned for the lack of PS1 / PS2 classics support. I really hope the streaming nonsense is not the only to play them on a PS4.

So err..we still can't pause downloads, or control the speed?

I don't want to upset you, but succeeding in a video game is not an actual accomplishment. Don't worry about how other people choose to play.

Why do you care what other people do?

I had to give up on Dark Souls because I couldn't get past a certain part - it would have been cool to invite someone to jump in and help me there.

Though to be honest I suspect the latency that comes with share play won't work well with the precise timing required by the FROM software games.

I suppose you are both right. Maybe I did come across as too overbearing. I guess I felt that help might be against the ethos of the game. I do wonder how the feature would be handled in games with leader board and ranking components though.

Why? VitaTV has LAN port in addition to WiFi, so local connection to PS4 can be better than the one VIta can achieve.

As for Remote Play via Internet, ~1mbit is minimum [lag remains low but image is bad] and 5mbit is recommended. I agree that 720p30 is bare minimum, but at least tech works.

I have 0.8mbit upload at home, so I don't think I will be able to take advantage of this.

It's basically just Remote Play between two PS4s instead of between a PS4 and a Vita. And that works as advertised so this will too.

For me it's prioritizing downloads. Sometimes I start a few downloads and go "wait, I want that game to finish downloading before that large update". It would be good to pause the game updates without losing progress.

Hopefully better if both PS4s are using a wired connection.

Exactly. Its just Local Coop like if the other person is sitting there with you. All i think thats needed for that option is that the host and the visitor have plus though.
Edit: Heres some extra info too.
◦You can be in a Party with 8 people, but Share Play can be done only with one of them at the same time. The rest of the Party won’t be able to see the screen, but will still be able to chat with host and guest.
◦When the host is visualizing any other screen than the game being shared, the guest is shown a “stand by” screen.
◦The Share Play time is limited to one hour, and the remaining time is visualized in the Party screen, but you can start a new session immediately after the one before expires.
◦Certain games may have scenes that cannot be displayed during Share Play.
◦While you use Share Play, livestreaming and remote play are not available.
◦The guest cannot save video clips and screenshots during share play.

There is still unannounced stuff in Firmware 2.0, but I think we will see Emulation later.

I hope Share Play is disabled for Bloodbourne. I don't think it'd be cool for someone to get help in that type of game. You either got the skills or you don't, right?

Dude, that's kind of messed up. I mean, if someone getting help here and there allows them to finish the game they spent $60 on, that can only be a good thing.

Pretty sure you can only share with one person at a time.

That too bad, but I connection and lag times could easily become a problem with more than one other person. The feature sounds great though, if it's mostly lag free it'll be great for games like Nidhogg and when PS1 and PS2 classics start to arrive on the PS4 (this should work with Playstation Now right?).

oh man where are you guys going for your custom themes? i'm down for ones of yakuza, parappa & all the great games we're not getting

I believe I saw something about up to 8 player can join a share play session.
But only one player can take over the controller at a time.

It doesn't target 1080p60, because the video encoder of the PS4 doesn't target that.

That would be great, but I have my doubts. Outside of possibly having to patch it into a game, it also seems like something that a developer/publisher would have the right to explicitly permit players to do or not do. Maybe Sony has that all worked out. I guess we'll see. Fingers crossed.

No, Far Cry is doing an entirely separate thing where the second player downloads a demo version of FC4 for free-roam madness.

What Far Cry 4 does has nothing to do with Shareplay.

Share play co-op simply utilizes the local MP functionality of a game, if I understand right.

Any game that supports 2P co-op should work with share play.

Thanks. I wasn't aware it was something completely different.

Bloodborne should kill you if the PlayStation Camera does face detection and sees a RL friend taking over your controller, too.
