• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

PS4's next software update, Masamune, will be available on 10/28

I had a good laugh when Ubisoft announced the FC4 thing then Sony followed up a short time later with Share Play.

"HEY, WE'LL GIVE YOU 10 KEYS TO GIVE TO FRIENDS."

"HEY, LOCAL CO-OP AND VERSUS MODES ONLINE FOR ALL GAMES!"

Yeah, I've come around to that line of thinking from other posters thoughts.

I get what you meant originally, though. I love that pride that I alone earned something and having someone else finish it, or things like cheating and having to bump down the difficulty just totally ruins that sense of accomplishment.

I got to the final boss in God of War on normal and had to bump to easy because I just couldn't do it. Feels bad man =(

But yeah I think when people pay money to play a game they can play it however they want. If you wanna beat GTAV in god mode and never die then good on ya

Is FarCry the only game that will utilise share play co-op feature as it stands?

That game actually has its own features on top of this. Shareplay is a system wide thing like Remote Play.

I actually can't wait to share to some friends and try out some games I am on the fence about. Live streaming of others playing is nice, but with this it can take "word of mouth" sales to a whole new level.

I wonder if devs can block this feature in certain areas of games, like they can with video recording? Or if trophies will not be earned during share? Or will they be earned by the guest, and not the owner?

I plattinumed Second Son and Wolfenstein. I offer my services for trophy hunting for low rate of 5$ per trophy.

lol

Per trophy? LOOOL

Don't understand why we can't have folders. They are already there for gods sake, just let us personalise the name and drop games into it

Yup, I think that instead of me being protective, old school, hardcore, whatever, I should be glad if this lets more people finish or even attempt more parts of games. It's good for all.

If this is their library update then this is pure shit, and I'd almost prefer to be left with my list of 60 games and apps as it is. It's still ugly and doesn't have nearly the organisational functionality we want and need.

Jesus CHRIST Sony, get it together on the sorting front. Our download list, our trophies, our fucking games - this stuff builds up and it needs sorting options. It has been an issue with Sony for years. Going through my DL list on the Vita is fucking torture. Folders or tags aren't hard, damn it!

A whole year of waiting for an update to be able to sort apps. A whole year, and this lame band-aid is what we get? This is just the filter from the store added to the library. Could have been done in a day. I just don't get it.

When they haven't given you anything substantial for another year, they'll throw that in the next big Update and you'll forget they ever withheld. Won't that be nice of them?

I don't like the idea of a time limit. Do you think it was publisher pressure on Sony?

most likely. the time limit is there to ensure the owner is present at the console while others are playing their games. it would be very questionable if people were allowed to open SharePlay, go to work and let their friend play through a game for 10 hours.

Will people pick up from where you are with shareplay, or will they start a new game despite you being in level 3 (for example).

there is a really simple way to explain Share Play.

Your friend is sitting virtually next you on the couch. One PS4, One Screen, and one/two controllers depending on the game. All trophies, saves and progress are being accessed on the account who is doing the sharing.

Don't stress fellow gaffer. Life's too short to get worked up over this.

Just in time for my birthday, yay !

I find nothing really that mindblowing in that update. Customizing is nice, but I'd really really really like the suspend/resume feature soon.

Seems pretty functional to me? I can sort by type and then get an alphabetized list (not sure what the other options for that drop-down are beyond ascending and descending).

But does it bring MKV support?

You know, like the one Microsoft gave.

Now that's a nice feature. I couldn't care less about themes. Shareplay has some potential but I doubt I'll ever use it.

Not all that exciting of an update but I'm glad we finally have a date. Hope there's some nice themes up on the 28th.

Problem with the Library sorting is demos and shit are probably mixed in with games. They need more categories which probably means flagging content types better.

Very nice surprise to have this in less than a week. Hate to say it, but I might keep my system off for a couple days to be sure no brick reports come out... or maybe risk it.....

I do wish Sony was better at OS implementation and development. At the same time I think it is unrealistic to expect them to be on par with MS in this aspect. Decades of OS design, bigger development team, and more spending money; if MS was not better at OS than Sony it would be crazy.

Noice.

Can someone please SharePlay Mordor for me? I need to free 30 slaves in 3 minutes on a Caragon or whatever they're called.

FW idea.

They should move the library to the left of the activity screen. My games list is already 20+ games long. I dont know why they have it at the very end of it

I have to imagine trophy unlocking will be locked/disabled for shareplay lol. I mean, if you pass the controller off, it's not your profile being played.

Though this would probably apply to trophies that require instant speed like "do this combo". I wonder if you can play a hard level, pass the controller back to the original user before the checkpoint, and unlock a trophy like "beat X on hard"

If trophy unlocking is possible, I wonder if people can make some $$ off some kids.

They're totally going to mix in PS+ games, regular games, and demos in that Games tab, aren't they?

Considering my download list is a mishmash of every Sony console on the go, I predict that everything will be lumped together. My library has now defunct betas in it.

Bruiser bear on suicide watch.

This left me scratching my head. I'm very excited about the arrival of 2.0.

Somehow people interpret my criticisms of Sony and their firmware team as I don't like Sony. If I criticize it's because I care. If I didn't care, I'd just ignore them. There is a reason you don't see me in Wii U firmware threads complaining about missing features.
