Well that's all there is to do after DriveClub was delayed, right?Just navigating the menu.

Kind of matters how old the systems are, too. All hardware eventually collects dust inside and get louder over time. My CPU fan was so quiet I couldn't hear it operating, even under full load, when I first bought it. Now it sounds like a jet engine.
What about temperature though? Especially in a small compartment.
How are you getting this number?
A quick google says that even though you can't straight up convert sones to db, 0.9 is in the realm of 28.2 db and 0.8 is about 27.2. How you get to 37db is beyond me.
Edit: 2.1 is close to 37db, but that's PS3. Maybe that's how you got confused?
Did they tear this bitch down yet? I want to see its gooey innards.
"slight noise"? Doooooooooom or an air canister. I'll keep an air canister handy. Hopefully they let me clean it without invalidating warranty. And if that sound is even less when it's on standby than my PS3 Slim, that's good. But it could be better. But then again, I don't know how much a scone is.
According to the magazine, a "slight noise" is audible from 40cm (= 15.75 inches) distance.
After 60 minutes of operation
PS3: 2.1 sone
PS4: 0.83 sone
Why would a CAV drive be switching speeds at all?
Seems pretty pointless to measure sound just when idling. Could have at least measured it when playing a bluray over time, if not a game.
I'm sure they said they'll be doing that closer to launch. I guess they're limited in what they can do at the moment. So, no? I thought they said they were going to today, or has German-GAF failed us?
My ps3 60GB phat was completely inaudible (even up close) when it was new.
Now the bearings on the fan are worn and I can hear it.
Wonder how new their ps3 is.
I remember my 360 on day one, sounded like a fucking hairdryer...
are you sure it is not dust blocking fan from working? Because thats what happens when all these people say theirs is loud.
How many sone is the PS3 when playing The Last Of Us? 100?
Maybe the system software on those debug units can't play Blu-Rays. They also couldn't test a game since they most probably just don't have one.
So if no games or bluerays, Sony actively give the units to these computer dudes, knowing they will strip them down to find flaws or indeed, positive newsworthy articles in their design? If thats the case I wonder why they cannot mention its sata controller type yet, perhaps there are just certain restrictions.
There's a thread for specific noise levels somewhere.I'm not sure if it was discussed, but when we suppose that the PS4 has to radiate as much heat as the PS3 slim, we can assume the same noise level.
I suppose you can hear the PS4, but it will be pretty bearable.
More important is the fact, that the console will run cool while in the menu and especially downloading things in the suspend/standby mode.

If they measured 28 dB from 40 centimeters... isn't noise level usually measured at 1 meter?
On the photo (see OP) they also have a microphone directly in front of the console.
I do not know how the retail-form-factor will perform, but I have witnessed some of the PS4-devkits (these big silver cases) after some hours if heavy gaming. The were audible but not overly loud and had a pleasent wooshing sound to them. Most of the noise seemed to be airflow without any fan-whining. Clearly a lot better than a fat-PS3 under full load. The sound reminded me of 120mm-fans in modern PCs.
If the retail-design performs like that, I am a happy man.
What's the sone stat for the original Xbox 360? That was VERY loud. Sounded like a blender.
There is no way ps4 is quieter than x1.
, x1 being bigger with a bigger lower rpm fan and a smaller gpu.

Explains why my PC is so quiet... oh wait. There is no way ps4 is quieter than x1.
