Its you who doesn't understand the math. All i'm saying my man, is that before you go on the internet and spout nonsense and conjecture, just learn a bit about the maths first
Thanks for the clarification. So what you said was all based on projection and guesses, right? There is no evidence for "Old business ain't working this gen." So Sony's tried-and-tested strategy is definitely working this generation as well.People are more open to gaming these days.
Microsoft method ignores the low console sales. Considering they are going crazy for cloud service.
Cloud gaming as of now is in beta form. But we saw good it is, with stadia, despite that system having no 1st party games, it plays the games like a high end pc gaming.
Gamepass would be the bargain bin for Microsoft to increase their hardware sales. You might not like it, but others will love a service like that.
The biggest reason however is 3rd party sales. Right now gamepass is in baby mode phase. Once Microsoft start doing starfield and 1st party after that day1, other publishers will want their games on that service. This would mean potentially sales lost on Sony side. The people who will buy those games on Playstation, wouldn't be able to buy it there. And 1 contributer is XSS, which Playstation people will like to get it alongside their ps5. And the 70$ price tag too.
That is how blockbuster lost their dominance. It wasn't overnight, but little things that made it lose its kings position. And if Sony ignores those signs, they would definitely be on the blockbuster route.
Great for them. Glad people enjoy it, unlike that destruction all stars, or that godfall.
Did you see my paragraph about how QD, ready at Dawn, From software get nurtured right into the hands of third party publishers like Activision, Facebook and Tencent. BP, kojipro, and housemarque have proven themselves. Go and acquire them right now before the same happens to them and you lose all that money you spent nurturing them. Maybe stop buying B games from Bethesda and stop paying Activision to make the MW2 campaign a 1 month exclusive? Not exactly. Before I answer that, I want to point out that you are again confusing two different things:
1. Tango, Arkane, Square Enix etc. are different than HouseMarque and Bluepoint. Those games aren't being developed by Sony; those are not first-party games. Those are just timed-exclusive games without Sony's development or managerial input (for the most part).
2 HouseMarque, BluePoint, and (as once was) Insomniac are completely different than Tango, Arkane, and SquareEnix. Those studios have been nurtured by PlayStation for many many years. Sony gives them access to their secret resources, their producers, their QA processes, their first-party developers, etc. For Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica are all credited. They all helped. It's a very different scenario.
And no, Sony didn't throw money at those studios. They hired them to develop games for them. Then they provided them with tons of resources and access to their first-party developers. That's nurturing. Once those studios mature, Sony acquires them, e.g., Guerrilla Games, Sucker Punch, Insomniac, etc. Sony is developing these studios and helping them grow. Same goes with Haven Studios, Firewalk, and Deviation.
If Sony acquires them years later, it would be unfair to say that Sony just threw money and acquired a random developer. They are helping these studios from the beginning.
If you're in the camp 'too much cross-gen' - PS4 is on the losing side pretty obviously. How does the PS4 compare exclusive-wise in its first year?
Its you who doesn't understand the math.
Let's go for gamepass a little bit.
Gamepass has 4 business model. Sub fee, mtx, dlc sales, and game sales. Sub fees range from 10$-15$ for existing subscribers. There is promotional ones, but they pay that price after promotion ends. Dlc, mtx, and game sales is 30% cut for Microsoft. With 18m (23m), you can get minimum of 600m-800m sales per month from them. Or 33.3$-44.4$ spent per member. This means 1 game sale price for each member. With 30% cut, the profit is $180m to $240m profit for Microsoft. As for sub, we will round it up to 8$, so you get total of $144m on that month. Total profit is $324m to $384m.
That is total profit before infrastructure, deals, or anything. That is just at 18m subs. And I didn't even count the 23m. Now take that math at 50m, to 100m. And tell me whether its sustainable or burning cash.
For netflix, they are movies and shows. Those won't go away anywhere. And with phones, smart tvs, its a business boom for them. At 200m sub, that is alot of monthly money for them. Which they can use it pay their debt in the long term. Once their debt is off, they gain profit nonstop. 200m at 12$ is $2.4b monthly cash flow for them. Or $26.8b at yearly.
Now imagine that much money after their debt is settled. That is what long term plan is.
Yeah, good point. Just a shame for a game like god of war. I wanted the next installment to be a true next gen showcase utilising the ssd to do some crazy stuff, taking potential ideas and lessons learnt from sharing info with the insomniac team and really pushing the ps5.It can have a stronger start but maybe the games just don't sell the system like they should due to the limited supply. Also many of these big AAA titles started development a long time ago so it makes since the PS4 version exists.
Sony will lead these 2 years. Anyone who argues with that is an idiot. Because Sony laid foundation for those 2 years, while Microsoft laid the foundation after those 2 years. Thanks for the clarification. So what you said was all based on projection and guesses, right? There is no evidence for "Old business ain't working this gen." So Sony's tried-and-tested strategy is definitely working this generation as well.
And while things may change in the future (anything can change in any industry), it is safe to say for now that Sony is once again leading the generation with higher third-party sales and revenue (75-25 split), higher revenue ($25 billion for PlayStation vs. $13 billion for Xbox), higher profit ($4 billion per year for Sony vs. ?? for Xbox), more hardware sales (2.5 : 1 in favor of PS), more games, and better-quality and higher rated games.
Considering all this evidence, I feel it's a stretch to say that the #1 company will suddenly become irrelevant and the #3 company will jump to the first spot.
If you used your head, you wouldn't have typed that. You know someone is clueless when the only numbers they can add up is revenue and not expenditure.
Your naiveity is cute though. Non stop profit
Whehter netflix makes money or not has nothing to do with debt. It's because of the requirement that comes naturally within their industry. Content creation.
There isn't even a match, Shadowfall and Secon Son were low points in their series, Knack was badly received and DriveClub launch was a disaster and basically killed the studio. It's also true that those were PS4 exclusives, but there were games like GT6, Beyond Two Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus and Puppeteer that were PS3 only. If they made the decision of going cross gen earlier, PS4 would have had a lot more games since it wasn't backwards compatible.within roughly its first year, the PS4’s lineup included Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, InFamous Second Son, Driveclub, and The Last of Us Remastered, all of which were PS4 exclusives. Meanwhile, PS5 will get Demon’s Souls, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and (hopefully) Horizon Forbidden West. I’ll let you decide which system has the better lineup
In this age, being close to a publisher means nothing. Its business. We aren't in the old ways of honor. You go to whoever pays you more. You run business, not a family restaurant.Did you see my paragraph about how QD, ready at Dawn, From software get nurtured right into the hands of third party publishers like Activision, Facebook and Tencent. BP, kojipro, and housemarque have proven themselves. Go and acquire them right now before the same happens to them and you lose all that money you spent nurturing them. Maybe stop buying B games from Bethesda and stop paying Activision to make the MW2 campaign a 1 month exclusive?
And i know the difference between second party and third party like death loop. The point i am trying to make is that he's throwing money at third party so he's being a hypocrite.
Yeah franchises like doom, elder scrolls and fallout carry no weight....I mean they aren’t 3rd person cinematic games.
Yeah, good point. Just a shame for a game like god of war. I wanted the next installment to be a true next gen showcase utilising the ssd to do some crazy stuff, taking potential ideas and lessons learnt from sharing info with the insomniac team and really pushing the ps5.
Game will be amazing I'm sure of it. I trust Cory and SSM. They are one if the best studios in the industry up there with ND imo.
What does any of what you wrote have to do with what is AAA and whether these games are big ?I hate Fallout aside from Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas
I get really fast bored when playing Oblivion or Skyrim. Dont think they are great games. Cant even finish Skyrim.
Doom Eternal is developed by ID Software and has nothing to do with Bethesda. Thats the only great game they have right now.
What does any of what you wrote have to do with what is AAA and whether these games are big ?
They don’t pretend to make AAA games, they make some of the most ambitious AAA games in the industry. Stick to cinematic games and stop talking about what is AAA.Bethesda pretends to make AAA games but they feel like glorified AA games.
Lets see how Starfield will be from the gameplay side. Experience tells me to not expect much from it.

You mean a game that has been selling millions of copies a decade after its initial release ? I mean I get it, you are used to huge worlds like the ones in god of war and uncharted so no wonder you don’t think that skyrim is ......AAA.Jeah then they come up with Skyrim thats even smaller than Morrorwind and Oblivion, with tunnels instead of dungeons and copy & paste dragon fights that lost any excitement after fighting the first one.
Very ambitious... indeed.

ThisThe next gen doesn’t start until I can finally buy a PS5.
Judging by how many folks are attracted to Sony’s crap I agree. The bigger the shit pile the more flies are getting attracted to it.
Nioh Collection, Returnal, Ratchet, Guilty Gear Strive, FFVIIR Intergrade, Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo, Horizon... and then you have indies like Kena, Little Devil Inside, Sifu, Jett, Stray, Solar Ash etc.So outside the pending Horizon which may or may not be delayed, what else does Jim Ryan have for PS5 in 2021 for major releases?
They are first party, Hermen said twice that PlayStation Studios has over 25 games under development. Inside 1st party there are 2nd party games too.Nope. That's not first party.
Sony annonced they will increase in over $330 millions internal gamedev salaries for the current year. More or less this means they will almost double their headcount in a single year.Eh. Nurturing talent is one thing, giving it enough resources to make games quickly is another. Their games are finally making a shit load of money and their studios are still 100-300 people max. There is a reason Tshushima took six years to make.
Their studios need 500 man teams and multiple teams per studio to get games out in 3 years. Or we will be looking at another gen where SSM, Sony Bend and PD release jyst one game in a 7 year generation.
If it wasn't for insmoniac who he just bought, Sony first party would've had zero games released so far. Bluepoint and Housemarque are not first party studios they nurtured. Neither were insomniacs who did it all their own and were bought out i.e, money was thrown at them. So Clearly he had to throw money at the problem of his first party taking forever to release games.
Some people prefer tentpole releases and pay for the privilege's. If you enjoy cable tv quality, and like cable TV endlessly scrolling, hey more power to you. I suppose. Gaming is one of my hobby's and pay the price for quality which in the grand scheme of things isn't that much. Like a person who claims to love food yet only has enough budget for a Vegas buffet like an old Chinese lady filling up her plate with crabs to "beat" the system. I am of the mindset, I am passionate about food and will pay for quality. You can enjoy your buffet, ill be in the steakhouse down the street, win win for everyone.
The quantity over quality so GP is trash argument that PS Fan Boys have is sheer desperation. It's hillarious.
I'll keep remembering that when I'm playing Forza Horizon 5, Starfield, MS Flight Simulator, Hades, and tons of others day 1 on GP.
Give them a break, they have to justify paying 80€ for a remake of a PS3 game, Returnal e.t.c These are the people that put all stars destruction in......listsThe quantity over quality so GP is trash argument that PS Fan Boys have is sheer desperation. It's hillarious.

I could really use a ps5 right now. It's too hot to do anything outside.

Just like how you dont like those games, there are other who don't like what you like. For example, Sony games are great. But big fatal is the overuse of cinematic scenes to convey the message. This hurts users experience, who is there to enjoy the gameplay.I hate Fallout aside from Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas (had a hard time with FAllout 3 and gave up on Fallout 4 after a few hhours). Zero interest in Fallout 76.
I get really fast bored when playing Oblivion or Skyrim. Dont think they are great games. Cant even finish Skyrim.

Bethesda published Doom but they still are just a glorified AA developer themselves.
Looking at the console hardware and software sales for both generations, looking at game sale rankings, looking at their software sales, looking at their game subscriptions revenue, console MAU, amount of green metacritic exclusives released per year, amount of GOTY awards per year, overall game division revenue... the distance between Sony and MS is too big in many areas, everything seems to point out Sony will win this generation.Sony will lead these 2 years. Anyone who argues with that is an idiot. Because Sony laid foundation for those 2 years, while Microsoft laid the foundation after those 2 years.
We still have to see gameplay of a Microsoft 2022 exclusive. All we saw of their games released after Halo and Forza are CGs and logos. The gamble Microsoft has now, is 2022, once those series X blades starts working. For now, its Sony win, since they clearly worked building their first 2 years.
Just like how you dont like those games, there are other who don't like what you like. For example, Sony games are great. But big fatal is the overuse of cinematic scenes to convey the message. This hurts users experience, who is there to enjoy the gameplay.
I played spiderman yesterday, and I am at 43% from the story, and what I hate the most, is the cinematic scenes. These ruin the experience for me. At one point, I am beating up these guys. Once I am done doing it, I get a movie scene. The things I just did now, ment nothing to my gameplay. And its frustrating honestly.
On other hand, those games you mentioned, let me do what I want. I am not there for their story. I am there to play the game how ever I want to do. Bethesda delivers that experience.
I think it will be better for you, to not bother with these games. They aren't clearly for you. They are for other people. Try to find what you like, and play those games. Its not good idea to force yourself playing games you don't like.
He never says anything about Microsoft in that interview. Trying to use that phrase as an attack to Xbox is just fanboys looking for drama. He could be talking about a lot of different companies (like Amazon's and Google's failed first party efforts) or simply about why he thinks Sony first party got so much better in recent years.

They dont have any real competition. What have the competition released so far?
Second Son is one of my favorite PS4 games ever. It was a new title on Xbox, the metacritic was for the Xbox version which had substantial changes.
Your first paragraph is irrelevant to the future, as the masses don't really care about goty. Only vocal minority cares about that.Looking at the console hardware and software sales for both generations, looking at game sale rankings, looking at their software sales, looking at their game subscriptions revenue, console MAU, amount of green metacritic exclusives released per year, amount of GOTY awards per year, overall game division revenue... the distance between Sony and MS is too big in many areas, everything seems to point out Sony will win this generation.
Seems MS will start to catch up in 2023 or so in terms of amount of big exclusives released per year to the point the number will be comparable to Sony. But in addition to this, they will need to improve the quality of the games released by these studios to be at the same level than Sony. In case they achieve that to the point of being able to face Sony, the distance in consoles sold, games sold, number of quality exclusives released this gen between both may be already too big because they will be in the last third of the generation.
We still have to see gameplay of a Microsoft 2022 exclusive. All we saw of their games released after Halo and Forza are CGs and logos.
Especially when you don’t got the cash to spare Jimbo. Better up the games to $80…
That gif remind me that Rockstar still didn't release next gen patch for RDR2, what those morons are waiting for, huh!!Sony 1st party PS5 new releases so far:
Astro's Playroom
Spiderman MM
Demon's Souls
Returnal
Sackboy
Destruction Allstars
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
MS 1st party Xbox Series new releases so far:
Hahaha haha.Looking at the console hardware and software sales for both generations, looking at game sale rankings, looking at their software sales, looking at their game subscriptions revenue, console MAU, amount of green metacritic exclusives released per year, amount of GOTY awards per year, overall game division revenue... the distance between Sony and MS is too big in many areas, everything seems to point out Sony will win this generation.

Games developed by the Spider-Man dev since its release (2018):
Marvel's Spider-Man: 87
Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales: 85
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart: 85
Bethesda developed games (& DLCs) released since 2017, more or less during the same period:
Fallout 76: 52
Fallout 76 Wastelanders: 69
The Elders Scrolls Online: 71
The Elders Scrolls Tamriel Unlimited: 80
The Elders Scrolls Morrowind: 77
The Elders Scrolls Summerset: 83
You personally may prefer the Bethesda games, but most people seem to prefer the Spider-Man/Insomniac approach. Same happens if we include the games published but not developed by Bethesda and the games from the other Sony 1st party studios.
Further translation: we've released 8 titles to hit over 80 metacritic in the past 12 months and our competition has spent billions and has released none
Sony has other departments to worry about. Microsoft on other hand has other departments generate money nonstop. They have more money than they ever had before.
Cash reserves of 45 billion
Debt of only 7 billion
Now compare to MSFT
Cash reserves of 120 billion
BUT
Long term debt of over 55 Billion
No accountant is going to let the reserves go below 55 billion if they have long term debt of that amount, due to the accounting principle of prudence.
While Sony COULD if raise tens of billions in cheap debt if they wanted and / or use cash.
But there is always this narrative spread that Sony is poor and MSFT is a trillion dollar company....the trillion doesnt belong to MSFT though....it is the value of stock owned by investors. MSFT only made money from that stock on the IPO.
Riiiiiiiidge RacerBetter launch than the ps4, still not as iconic as the PS3 launch tho
