How is the noise level on your PS5

It's remarkably silent - both XSX and PS5. As per the drive noise, PS5 seem to be about equal to PS4 Pro... and sometimes when the drive runs in the game, because everything else's so silent, I get rather startled. My XSX drive seems to be a bit quieter and not as rattly as PS5 one - but I only inserted a disc w/o really doing anything - so I could be wrong.

I've heard any small amount of noise from it apart from the optical drive may be the coil whine rather than the fan. Pay close enough attention to all but the best put together electronics and it's there. The fan (for now?) is smurfing.

When that bitching disc spinned for the first time i thought my ps5 was broko

my big CHUNKER cat got startled out of his chunky sleep.

If I mute the TV and the rest of the room is quiet I can hear it a little bit. Other then that it is silent. I haven't ever heard it while playing games. The BluRay drive is loud when installing.

It makes you wonder with the majority of the people that are saying its silent if it really is? Like not intentionally misleading us but say their room already has ambient noise or they haven't listened to it with tv sound off or in low power mode.

Of course peoples tolerance for such things varies person to person as well. My room is completely quiet when electronics are off (normally).

I am sensitive to coil whine and hated my Pro because of it (it also had the high pitch fan). I haven't been able to find a PS5 yet but dread the talk of coil whine.

Boots up noisy with a disc. Install was super loud.
godfall was quiet but then every so Often it would get loud.
So pretty noisy

At one point, 9 out of 10 people had a "whisper quiet " PS4 or pro. ;)
I think the PS5 is consistently quieter though. From the units I've been around and what I've read. I did hear one with coil whining similar to a Pro though so I guess it's possible.

I can hear a quiet hum if I put my ear up right next to it. Otherwise I'm usually sitting a few feet away on a couch so it is dead silent.

Anybody's got an issue whereby their sound bar does not pass the ps5's hdr signal to the tv?

Mine works fine with the XSX and I've been playing Gears 5 with hdr but plug the ps5 into the same sound bar and the video output info is ymc240 (no Hdr) although it says hdr supported.

My sound bar is a Dolby atmos Samsung hw-k950

Voted Silent but disc being read is audible but definitely acceptable, sometimes even when not playing the game it will randomly spin up the disc in the drive for a few seconds, but its silent when playing a game, it was so nice the other day, I paused a game and noticed it was dead silent in my living room, normally the Pro's fan noise would actually speed up when pausing a game with the usual jet engine noise ready for take off.

How loud is the coil wine? What's it caused by?
Not very. Happens when you're in a game. It is very, VERY faint, at least in my case.

I use headphones so only noticed it when I had a break, but I suspect you won't hear it at all even with TV speakers. It really isn't loud at all.

Unless the console is reading the disc which is not often it is literally dead silent. In my house, I don't have outside noises or anything, you could hear a pin drop, I can pause the game there is literally no noise coming from it at all even if I go put my ear near it. Honest to god.

Edit: I have not used it for Media though streaming apps or otherwise, only games.

It's a day and night difference compared to my old jet ps4 pro. However we do need to see more full next gen title to make a better judgement.

I returned mine yesterday because of coil whine. Now I'm on a search to find another. Such a bummer.
Why wouldn't you just hold on and sell it and buy a new one in future. Or even just sell it now for a profit? Fair game as you didn't buy it to intentionally do this.

It's silent with a slight amount of coil whine. I have only played Astro so far, though, so I don't know if the coil whine can get worse in a more demanding game like Spider-Man MM (which I haven't installed yet). Compared to my PS4 Pro which had very loud coil whine, my PS5 could be described as dead silent.

I'm actually pretty sure that all PS5s have the coil whine I experience, some just don't hear it because they sit 5-6ft away, have the console in a cabinet or are generally numb to the sound. It is barely audible in a dead silent room when playing Astro.

To people wondering what a bad case of coil whine sounds like, Mystic here has a mic on his PS5 and demonstrates the coil whine - it's timestamped, but if it doesn't work for you, it kinda starts at the 10:00 minute mark

This is btw the exact same kind of coil whine you could have on PS4 Pros (which my Pro has), but not as loud as on the old console. I can hear my Pros coil whine over game audio and easily across the room.

Honestly I thought about it but just didn't want to deal with it. I figured I can get another sometime. Even if it's months down the road.

Thankfully silent and only makes noise when reading disc. But I don't understand what it's trying to read when I'm playing a game different from the disc 🤣

Digital Version, Vertical placement, have it sitting next to the couch. There's a very faint buzzing oftentimes, but nowhere near annoying.

Silent during 10h of playing yesterday (mostly Astro, AC:V and DeS)

Physical, vertical standing and I can only hear something when the bluray is reading

Mine has audible Coil Whine, while a game is running, quiet on the dash board.
This. I have the digital edition and the second I boot a game I can hear a tiny bit of coil whine and/or something grinding (a fan?).
It doesn't bother me that much because my soundbar cancels it out and I usually play with headphones anyways.

Yeah disc read and install but dead silent otherwise

My PS4 was never loud though. It a light noise but never like some of vacuum cleaner stories you hear

Its dead quiet running Demons Souls right now. Even with my ear up against it I can only hear the faintest noise

My TV x900h fan is louder if I put my ear up on that

That's so good exactly what my series X is like. Mine is only mild youd never hear it over game audio but it's on all the time even in rest mode or where theres a quiet moment in a film etc.

My PS5 is louder than my PS4 Pro in idle mode which is rather disappointing. The PS4 Pro fans can be pretty loud when playing a game, but that's no biggie since I can't hear it over the sound from the speakers. But in idle mode the PS4 Pro is dead silent, while I can hear a humming sound from the PS5 like there's a tiny motor running. I found it rather annoying (and disappointing) when I noticed it yesterday late at night.

Thinking about returning mine. Coil whine and even the fan is audible when playing BFV or Days Gone. Only tested those to see. R6S is downloading, will test that soon.
As the above poster mentioned, my Pro might have been a jet in some games but in the menus or YouTube/Netflix it was silent, couldn't hear a thing. The PS5 is audible without anything on. Man I am so pissed, always get the shitty hardware, I am so unlucky. :messenger_loudly_crying:

It's dead silent during gameplay but I do hear the disc drive for a couple seconds on game boots and during installs. Pretty impressive turnaround from PS Pro.

There is some coil whine, though it's so faint I need to have my head right next to the console to hear it for certain. The fan is also audible when playing, but I'm sitting pretty close and it's not like it's loud or anything. Not perfect, but it doesn't bother me really.

Honestly My PS5 DE has been as quiet as my Xbox Series X. The only thing I have a problem with on PS5 is game crashes and PS5 changing game versions on its own.

PS5 digital here, I can honestly say I can not hear mine, fan or system-wise.
I am so glad now I went Digital with people saying how loud the disc drives are. Plus I think the Digital looks the better-looking console.

You can hear the disc drive speed up for a few seconds, other then that.
Can't hear it

Disc drive can be heard when the system boots up and probably when you boot the game (I wear the headphones so I can't really tell if it happens again when launching Demon's Souls).

Other than that, I have maybe heard one or two whispers from the system total. Every now and then, the fan goes from level 0 to level 1 where you can almost hear it from the couch, like a gentle summer breeze. Outside of that, the thing sounds like it's not even turned on.
