This makes no sense. Why should someone do this??Has anyone put a thermal pad on the plate that covers the ssd with a ssd that has a heat sink on it ?
To transfer more of the heat to the plate away from the ssdThis makes no sense. Why should someone do this??
How's this suppose to work? If you Install a NVME SSD you put a thermal pad on the top of the SSD and attach a heatsink. To transfer more of the heat to the plate away from the ssd
But if I add a thermal pad to the plate that makes contact with the heat sink wouldn’tHow's this suppose to work? If you Install a NVME SSD you put a thermal pad on the top of the SSD and attach a heatsink.
If you add a thermal pad on the metal plate it has no contact with the SSD.
If you think this a good idea for this sandwich why had no one else tried the same solution? But if I add a thermal pad to the plate that makes contact with the heat sink wouldn’t
that help transfer heat from the metal heat sink to the plate in all reducing the overall heat from the ssd and heat sink
Idk you tell meIf you think this a good idea for this sandwich why had no one else tried the same solution?
Or why don't the manufacturers tell you that you should also add a another thermal pad on top?
It's because your idea is stupid and makes no sense that's why.Idk you tell me

If you don't understand whats the best way to transport heat from the SSD that's your problem. I'm not wasting any more time here.
The one without the heat sink needs to be firmware updated. I have the pro drive with the copper pipe heat sink and it’s cool and fast. The one with the heat sink included says PS5 on it and is already updated. The 980 Pro is only $150 at Bestbuy. I hate that the one that comes with the heatsink is $230. the heatsink shouldnt cost more than $10.
My PC's mobo comes with its own heatsink that just sits on top of the 980 Pro. It's a simple metal or aluminum bar. Whatever its made of, i havent had any issues. temps sit at 29 Degrees celcius. cooler than my cpu.
Im tempted to just buy the 980 Pro and stick it in the PS5 without a heatsink to see how it behaves. maybe buy those ram thermal pads and stick them on the modules.
EDIT: Looks like this heatsink is only $5.79 and works with the 980 Pro. I might just get this and install the ssd myself.

Amazon has the WD SN 850 with heatsink for only $146. I pulled the trigger. The one without the heat sink needs to be firmware updated. I have the pro drive with the copper pipe heat sink and it’s cool and fast. The one with the heat sink included says PS5 on it and is already updated.

You don’t need anything more but if you’re worried about heat I meant get a better heat sink vs placing pads where they’re not needed. Worth a try for $20-$25I have the firecuda 530 with heat sink
That’s a really good price and it doesn’t need to be updated. For people without the ability to do the update it’s a lot more convenient.Amazon has the WD SN 850 with heatsink for only $146. I pulled the trigger.
They have a newer model coming.Amazon has the WD SN 850 with heatsink for only $146. I pulled the trigger.
What’s the newer model ?They have a newer model coming.
That's a good price though as it was $250 when I bought one for someone for $180.
That’s interesting. What is it? There is a drive that was made specifically for the PS5 that is a Japanese only release coming out as well. They have a newer model coming.

You can clearly see that Sonys solution is the better one. Especially when It comes to pricing and customer choice. Paid 330€ for the SN850 months ago and you can get It for 279€ now.
I actually have that same drive in my PS5. It speed tested for 6500 MB/s$130 for 1 TB for proper speeds probably best deal I have seen yet

Correctus, that is what I got about a week ago.Let me again say WD SN850 for the win.
Correctus, this is what I got about a week ago.
Didnt masa Cerny recommend it btw?
That must have been so difficult to install.
Did Cerny put it in for you?
Not sure, but I am recommending it, after having 6 in my house in total.Correctus, that is what I got about a week ago.

255€ currently.I know your prices are in euros but I think the price dropped even further. I’m seeing that same SSD with the heat sink for only 150$. I was thinking about going with 512TB but the 1TB dropped enough that it’s worth buying for me.
