PS6S Budget Model Rumored at $350-$550 According to MLID

Cross gen all gen. Consoles are gonna be like smart phones where if you don't care all that much you can just keep using your old one. But you don't need a console like you actually need a smart phone now.

$1,000 consoles just sound so stupid. Nobody is buying that for their kids. Even Switch 2 is a tough pill to swallow for parents. Kids are gonna grow up playing Roblox (which now has more users than PSN and Steam combined) and shit like Five Nights at Freddies on their school laptops, and when they age into 18-35 buying demographic they are not gonna give a fuck about Kratos and Aloy.

Sony should just ride out ps5 for 5 more years if that's what it takes. Yea the CPU is old and busted but who cares at this point. Go back to 30 fps if you must.

It's a good idea. I don't think the Series S ended up being nearly as much of a problem as people let on.. Further all these PSSR updates make it a lot easier to scale performance across different hardware targets.

Frankly, if next gen is going to push $1000, there needs to be lower cost entry points for people on a budget to get into the platform.

Series S all over again?

Series S was actually the smartest thing MS has done in years they just failed at execution

Really their big mistake was the parity requirement. If they had access to using DLSS/PSSR level scaling they probably could have gotten away with it a bit more.

the only mistake was the Memory. the parity requirement was a must.

it would have also helped if they sold more systems. more consoles on the market means better ports.

It could be false. It could be Sony's answer if MS tries to have an option to under cut them. It could be Sony's way to combat high cost. It could be a Vita TV situation. It could be….

I'm just going to wait for more solid news.

If they already have canis APUs sitting around, might as well get them on the shelf for those who are more cost conscious and dont care about portability.
Something to compete with the steam box.

So. Basically the PSP3 in docked mode. Like the Vita TV was. And that sold like shit!! What is the point in spending 550€ when for 100€ more you have the portable option??? This is beyond stupid, Nishino.

I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with MS

What was the mistake with the memory?...

8GB for a 4Tflop gpu makes sense. Especially when you are trying to keep costs in check.

The ambition of current developers is people upgrading hardware so they could release identical games to current games but optimizing less
When it comes to current games, sure. But looking at next gen, whatever memory and processing power a game is designed around, if it has to "fit" into something weaker, it's gonna need to be reworked and cut down. It's not always just about lowering textures, shadows, and lighting, if it were that simple, the PS2 would still be getting GTA VI.

Again, these companies are ran by complete idiots.

Who, of sound mind, would spend $1,000 on a PS6 knowing that it will ALWAYS be held back by the cheaper underpowered version?

The series S absolutely held back not only the Xbox Series X but the entire generation of non-playstation exclusives.

Why do you think we have an endless stream of remakes and remasters? It's because, partly, the Xbox had a mandate that any game released on the series X had to also run on the awful Series S.

the issue is that it made raytracing hard to achieve, which in return made ports harder and uglier.
there are games that could use raytracing on the S based on the GPU performance, but don't due to memory constraints.

the mistake here was expecting debelopers to optimise for it.

Well it worked well for Microsoft..... Oh wait

(This 'rumour' sounds like absolute bollox)

we literally know they are doing a handheld that is already their S consoles... putting that same hardware into a small box for your TV for a lower price makes perfect sense

The only thing Sony cares about is keeping you locked into its ecosystem, regardless of whether you buy the cheapest or the most expensive hardware.

Boy that would suck.

We´d play ps4 games with tacked on prettier graphics for another gen.....

R.I.P Devs if all of this comes to pass.

So many different versions to code, optimise and bug test for.in a few years time....

PS6
PS5/6 handheld thing
PS6 Lite
PS5 Pro
PS5
Next Xbox
Next Xbox Lite version
Series X
Series S
Switch 2
Steamdeck 2
Steamdeck 1
Various other PC handhelds
Then PC and all the optimisation and test that requires

Will next gen consoles offer no graphical improvements? Have we reached the peak? What will support for RT/PT and RR be like? I'm curious to see how this portable performs.

I'm expecting it will be what you see on PS5 pro with higher base resolutions and better fps. Also better ray tracing capabilities so there will be some uplift at least in that area.

I mean based on the rumored handheld specs, it's not likely to be much better, if at all, vs a PS5.

I guess it will have more RAM according to rumors…
