PSN/PS+ server issues

Sony is just annoying me. had issues logging on. how can this be happening every night? are they hoping that less people will log on? so reduce the load? if so i can go to xbox.

i hardly hear xbox live players complaining but with psn its a constant thing

I was able to download the update in a minute. I was impressed. But after that I tried to buy a game and... The store doesn't let me put anything on the cart. Thanks Sony.

Because 365 days, 24 hours a day and minor hiccups here or there, that may equal a week or 2...Isn't cause for concern if u actually have a life

Actually it's more the other way around. It sucks more for the people with busy lives who have to squeeze in an hour or two of gaming here and there around work, family and social obligations. They may only get one night a week to play Destiny or whatever online game they're into and lose that if PSN is down during that time.

To the people without lives who can game all they want, it should be a lesser deal as they get a ton of gaming in, are more likely to be playing multiple games at a time (some of which are probably single player, off line playable games they can play while PSN is down) etc.

I don't get bent out of shape about it as I have plenty of non-gaming hobbies and usually have some single player/offline stuff I can play when PSN happens to be down. But it sucks if I've scheduled some online playing with friends who are also busy, as PSN being down could mean we don't get to play for a week or two since we're all busy and coordinating can be hard.

It's not good enough, it's too flakey. Amusingly, I just got an error message during Driveclub telling me my Playstation Plus subscription has expired. I'm paid off until 2015. I wouldn't be surprised if a large proportion of the Driveclub issues are actually down to PSN.

The worse part of intermittent server issue is the inevitable extra load we all put by continually checking if the service is up. I know tried loading the store on my computer and even turned on my PS4 to check.

It seems service is back up. I would estimate downtime at under 90 minutes.

I think the store might be up - the web store was down too but it just came back up and works really quickly.

I completely agree. I have a very busy school week and I like to schedule gaming meetups with my friends over the weekend. Sometimes on a weekday if it works out. If it is down or whatever... that time is just gone. Hopefully next week will be better.

Well said. Thats exactly the scenario in which down time proves the most annoying.

The PS3 store keeps crashing for me, it loads the interface with the blue background and the top menu but nothing else. Is that related to this or is there something wrong on my end?

welp, the store is still broken for me.

i tried to download stuff but it gives me an error.

AND when i try to link my youtube account to my psn account it gives me an error.

I'm not sure why Sony thought it would be a good idea to deploy yet another bandwidth heavy feature when the network was already having trouble before the update. Now you have both PSNow and share play which probably takes up massive amounts of bandwidth on their server. I hope they're planning on scaling up their server farm real soon because the holidays are right around the corner.

What irks me most is that it's now a mandatory paid service. Last generation, Sony had the excuse of providing a free service- not anymore.

I really doubt PS Now runs on the same infrastructure as the core PSN services, and Share Play is P2P so it shouldn't put any additional load on Sony servers.

It's been days since I can't log into the PSN Store... I bought Catherine to play because I had a couple of days off this week (today and tomorrow), seems like I won't be able to enjoy it.

-.-'
When is this going to get fixed already? Gahhh...

Holiday season is going to be ugly if the network problems keep happening.

Yeah, thankfully I plan on keeping Unity on the back burner until Christmas so i'll have a single player game to enjoy but for everyone who's getting COD or whatever other online game, they really need to step things up so it's stable.

Is it me or is the network down for anyone else?

maintenance for 3 hours, check like two posts above ya.

on a side note guys, is there a way to fix the snail like shit download in the vita? i spent like the whole day downloading a psp game (900MB+) and a vita game 3.4GB. what in gods name is happening here is it PSN related or vita ?(both?)

Use the Media Go. It's infinitely faster.

The thing is, it doesn't seem to be an issue of traffic, if what you're implying is influx of new users=worsening situation. If it's that these issues are going to have a major effect this holiday season on console wars, I'm pretty sure games and the audience congregation will have a much more tangible impact. Right now, it seems the major, consistent issues are with messaging. The other issues seem to wildly vary from person to person. Some say the store doesn't work, while it seems for most there isn't an issue. There's a half dozen things going on with the Youtube app. Anything else I don't have much experience with.

Nothing about this situation seems to make sense. The major issues started shortly after the systems came back up after the last DDOS issues (which shouldn't be causing these problems), and nothing has really improved.

With the amount of threads about the incompetence of PSN just this week alone, I decided to make this thread where all server issues can be discussed instead of having a new thread every other day.

I personally, along with many of you, have been affected by these problems. There are days when my PS4's UI doesn't function. The messages, trophies, friends list won't load, everything is wonky.

Here's to hoping Sony fixes the problem now that we are paying for PSN.

Alternative to fixing the problem

So I see that my thread was quoted in the OP. Hopefully it proves helpful to others in eliminating UI slowdown. On a brighter note slowdown is much less prevalent since I updated my firmware to 2.0 so it looks like some progress was made.

Ok wtf happened to my PS4?

I just updated to 2.0 and suddenly nothing loads for me. My profile list, friends lists, can't even get on the PSN store, etc.

What happened? I read the OP but nothing has worked so far. :(

Is it normal to have maintenance in prime time? I mean why do you need it monthly anyway, when Steam and XBL rarely have it if any at all (haven't seen single one yet).

Don't get me wrong, I am in Asia so it happens like in early morning or during noon (it's 12:52PM here) for me so I am fine with that since usually I am at University. Only two times I saw maintenance on PS4 and PS3 was when I stayed whole night.

Sony really need to sort out PSN, given that only in last month I have troubles with it, but the troubles I have are annoying - unnable to load friend list and UI glitches with only fix is to turn off the Internet in options.

They normally announce maintenance more than a day in advance - my guess is that this wasn't planned until very recently and is needed to fix something. Though if I recall, in those cases they usually label as "Emergency maintenance" so I'm not sure.

At times like this I wish they would use that nice "From Playstation" message service they have and announce matinece is happing later. Got kicked out of FF14 because it couldn't verify the licence...

You hit the nail in the head. This is exactly what frustrates NE the most. I can hardly find time to play lately, and when I do, PSN always seems to be acting up.
