Sweet. Free PS+ was what I was hoping for. Been hoping to try it out somehow before subscribing.

I'm just glad this whole incident happened during my most important weeks of school and not during the summertime.

The worst part of this whole thing was anonymous releasing information of not only the execs but their children as well. That's a bigger offender than anything else out there. That is a line you don't cross and you fight man like a man, not like a coward; and it seriously doesn't make them any better than what they blamed Sony for what they did.

WTF. Serious?

Well, this thread just goes to show that most ate willing to forgive Sony on this. And good for you. Yeah it sucks that shit was stolen, and hindsight they could have done this or that with security, but if hackers want something, they'll work to no em to get it.

Sony also seems sincerely apologetic. I was expecting a 30 day PS+ subscription and fraud protection enrollment (the standard for thefts lime this). Additional free content really goes an extra mile. Of course as decent as they're being, none of it matters if this happens again, and you know hackers are going to poke and prod on the new system. Hopefully the security is there to stop em.

No harm (cc nums) no foul. Good job sony.

I always appreciate SCEA amending for their mistakes. Remember that evil Viewitiful Joe demo? I thought SCEA was awesome for giving us free games in return.

I attempted to do it light kindheartedly. =3

I didn't mean any malice when I did it either yet GAF's white knights still jumped down my throat for it.

You also didn't answer my question.

I'm happy that they will offer compensation to customers and satisified that Sony will upgrade their network. On the other hand they failed pretty hard security wise. The vulnerability was known to the rest of the world but not to Sony. I will remove my CC from PSN as soon as it's up and I will use prepaid cards from now on. When 77 millions accounts info are stolen because of a known weakness in their network it's very hard to trust Sony again. A bunch of games won't change the situation for me.They will pay the fees to issue a new card but my bank already covers that kind of fees anyway so it's pretty worthless.

"passwords were not encrypted, but were hashed.""

Thank god. This is all I wanted to know. Seems they were storing the data pretty much the same way any other website/service does. I thought it would be really strange if they were saved in just plain text. I changed all my passwords for nothing <.<

Not nothing. it's a good idea to have different passwords for all your accounts which have credit card or banking information.

Of course, by the time they do this, you have hopefully changed all your passwords. I hope everyone realizes that, though: you need to change ALL your passwords to be safe, not just your PSN password.

Huh?

Not angry at Sony, still PISSED at hackers. Coming straight off having my Steam account hijacked, am fuming.

I know there are schemes like Verified by Visa but I've always been amazed at the lack of identification needed for online transactions and this whole event just highlights it. Surely it's about time that transactions require an online PIN of some kind (that isn't printed on the back of the card)

So, you are mad because you got your time down reimbursed, plus 2 additional weeks, get to participate in the additional free content as everyone and are upset because those of us who are not PS+ members get an additional 2 weeks?

Wow...

At the end of the day, if I pay for a premium service, then I expect any loss of service to be compensated adequately. I'm not mad, I'm just stating what I expect as a consumer who has handed over my cash.

I just get the impression that some consumers just want this to go away for Sony. It's deeds not words. Sony will have to spend a long time proving they are serious about security and they won't put in the effort unless people remember and remain agree so that Sony sees. Appologies are all well and fine but deeds must be performed for a long time before many will feel safe enough to leave their info with Sony.

If it's the thread I'm thinking of, you pre-empted your junior calling with another stupid statement about wanting Bungie to die in a fire.

Using junior as a negative term, or a way to look down on other posters is always stupid and ignorant.

Well, I already use virtual credit cards with preset limits. I'm completely safe in that regard.

I said "I just don't like Halo, calm down junior." I said junior because I was too lazy to type out whatever the poster's name was. Maybe it came across as condescending but it wasn't my intention for it. Either way your comment could easily be read in a similar tone if not worse by you typing out Jr. member.

You still haven't answered my question.

The claim is they released not only personal info on the execs but stuff like their kids' names what schools they attend.

If true, I'm sorry but Anon comes out looking REALLY bad in this whole thing. There are lines you don't cross. That's some really fucked up shit.

Yup, got a free copy of Hot Shots Golf Fore! And my memory card didn't get nuked because I was alerted by NeoGAF about the memory card bug ahead of time.

Hmm never heard of this, what happen?

I remember that now. The Viewtiful Joe 2 demo (in a Fall jampacked or whatever demo disk, contained with other games) would erase the data on ALL your PS2 memory cards inserted. I had friends who were crying over it. SCEA gave out a first party game of their choice for free though.

The only card I ever used on PSN has expired, but if I didn't have it saved, was I ever in any danger to begin with? I never saved it in the first place because it seemed like a pointless risk.

So because of some morons who know nothing of South East Asian culture, Hirai and co. shouldn't perform an apologetic bow? Really?
Well I didn't say the bow apology shouldn't be done because of possible childish fan reactions. Those were two separate observations on my part.

440K in Ireland.
HOLY *** That's a lot of accounts, nearly 1 in 10 people.
No fluff either I would imagine as their are no benefits in making 2nd account here unlike UK, US, Japan & HK.

You'll get your content, don't worry. SELECTED FREE CONTENT.
What's PSN's equivalent to Undertow? That's what XBL users got for free as the apology for the outage during the holidays a few years back.

^^^ yes, i dont know why but didnt expect GB to be 2nd. Thought Jpn would have wiped our floor.

UK number seems a bit high.

Probably explained by multiple accounts - most non-european owners registering a PAL PSN account probably plump for a UK account.

edit - and yes, I was surprised by the Ireland number too...it may be seeing a little trickle-over from non-PAL accounts too though, it being a English speaking territory, although I imagine not nearly as much as the UK.

Norwegians and their crazy torsk money. Everybody there wears solid gold and has 2 ps3's in every room. :(

The Playstation brand is HUGE in Norway. People look at you with a strange glance if you say you own a 360. Some even become aggressive.
