So its been almost 2 days since the deadline and they haven't updated us? This is getting pathetic.

Either they don't work on weekends or the final steps of security testing take a very long time for some reason.

I honestly stopped caring about when the Store and rest of the services will be up, for me it's all about online play now, that will be my sedative and distraction. Having no clear date this far into the case is not helping at all.
You are my inverse. I don't care about online MP. I have a single-player backlog for the ages. But I want my PSN store so I can extend it further. Sweet, sweet Clash Of Heroes, why didn't I buy you right away?

They said "next week" on May 1st. I assume that this was until yesterday (Sunday), going by that it hasnt been almost 2 days yet, more about 1 day (depending on which time zone you're in). I hope that we get an update anytime soon though.

Well, so much for trying to get my MK Classic Reptile skin.

Fuck it, if the game has decent DLC I'll just get it on Xbox now. Kratos was a low-tier character anyway.

I played the demo on PS3 but bought on 360. I don't want to derail, but let's just say if you buy on 360 you will be very pleased with your decision.

When PSN does go live again, I'd like this to be the first thing you see:

They said "this week" which ended on Saturday. So, their deadline was Saturday.

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet or not, but on the Unity board Svensson has shared his feelings on a personal and professional level about the breach:
How do you feel about the people hacking the PlayStation Network?

Svensson: I'm frustrated and upset by it for a number of reasons.

As a consumer, I also play games online on PS3, which I can't do... and likely my personal information is also compromised. Secondly I like to buy things in the PlayStation store and that I can't do right now.

On a related note, as an executive responsible for running a business, the resulting outage obviously costing us hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in revenue that were planned for within our budget. These are funds we rely on to bring new games to market for our fans.

In short, the hackers appear to be trying to "punish" Sony for some perceived injustice, and they've been effective in that I suppose. But they're also punishing millions of other consumers and businesses which makes it impossible to be sympathetic to their "cause".
Pretty obvious stuff, but for the guy who was asking about how this case is affecting (and is being perceived by) pubs and devs, this is the gist of it.

:) Am I the only one who doesnt care when its online.

I mean , I do play online games but we have enough SP games we could play again. Uncharted 2, MGS4, GT5 and so on.

Weeks end on Sundays according to some international ISO standard. But they missed that deadline as well... :/

The next update needs to have a exact date, no "this week", "the coming days", "soon","within a week" etc. bs.
"soon(ish)"

You're not the only one. In fact, none of us care at all. We're just here pretending we like online gaming.

I needs ma PSN to buy and play MOAR SP GAMES. And there's also the risk of losing save data through not backing up and losing trophies if the PS3 tanks.

The issue is that clearly they don't have a solid project plan for tackling this, otherwise we WOULD be getting a date. What I find odd is that they hired several security firms to help rebuild/secure the PSN, and you think SOMEBODY would have a project plan for all this since it's such a short period of time.

...unless, it's not such a short period of time, and the shit is going to be down well into June.

I am glad people in this thread are optimistic, but out of all the companies I regularly buy products from, Sony is the worst when it comes to adhering to dates. They manage their developers for shit, and I can think of more high profile Sony published games that HAVE been delayed than haven't. If they applied this same project planning acumen to securing the PSN, it is no wonder nobody knows when it's due back.

I don't much care about MP gaming, I care about not being able to redeem Portal 2 on Steam and not be able to use the store though. Those things have been a consistent irritant for a while now. And pretty soon my friend who's playing Portal 2 co-op with me will be back and ready to play, and I'm guessing Sony will be denying us that pleasure.

I didn't but then I heard we were going to get free stuff.

Imma go with Tuesday, seems odd to miss a PS Store update.

Store won't be back until June. They're going to miss a lot of store updates, so not sure why this week's would be special.

Last update didn't even have one of those. "We expected to have the services online within a week" is dubiously past tense. No new deadline or even an optimistic projection (for them to miss). Shit is looking pretty grim.

I don't care about online much too but I just wanna SYNC MY GODDAMN TROPHIES.

>:(

Now I know how GraveRobberX feels. :P

My current bet is that they're not willing to come out and say "Ladies and Gentlemen, in our pursuit of maximum security we've inadvertently created Skynet. We're like super sorry."

If it really is down until the 31st, I am going to shoot for the stars and say Infamous 2 is going to be free.

I am genuinely wondering what's going to happen with the Infamous 2 beta. Wasn't part of the plan that the top ten or so player-made levels from the beta would end up on the disc at release or something? Wonder when that was supposed to be finalized...

I just want to buy Outland and BGE. ;/

I agree about the free stuff, if its really another month, then we should be able to choose our free stuff.

I just had my mind blown after my brother in law posted a link to this posting that I tried to find in this thread to no avail. It's a couple days old so I find it hard to believe that it is not already here. Anyhow let me know if you had seen it, if true this makes sony very hard to trust. http://pastehtml.com/view/1eejiqj.html

Just out of curiousity, what do you mean with "recover"? What do you think will happened if PSN really is down until May 31th?

Certainly going to make a lot of casual owners quite unhappy... Unhappy enough to abandon the PS3 for a system with the same games and a functioning online service.

With this outage .. I have seriously been thinking about investing more of my $$ into XBLA games versus PSN. I guess it's only natural as most are going through PSN withdrawal. I hope I'm not the only one GAF.

Do people really think they aren't working weekends on this 'issue'? I'd guess they are running 24/7 right now (If they aren't, shame on them..)..and until its back up and unsinkable like the titanic.

Depends how you define solid, but I think you can have a solid plan and not be able to foresee every problem you can and will come across in a project.

Also isn't it more than just a simple rebuilding of PSN as it was before? Aren't they trying to incorporate new and more secure technology in to PSN? That leads to problems projecting a specific date for completion.

I don't trust Sony's PR or the dates that given to us. So I am with you. I thought it was going to be up 2 or 3 days after the initial outage. I think I was just slightly off on that prediction.

Slow as this is going, I really don't think I buy "working around the clock". More like Mon - Friday 9am-5PM, weekends off.

Infamous 2 being free as a result of this is really not that far fetched.

1. It is releasing around the time the PSN is supposed to be back up.
2. Nobody already owns it, so unless you really hated the first game, it is a great gift. By all accounts, it is going to be awesome, so it's not like we're all getting SOCOM 4 or something.
3. Sucker Punch's sales are going to get killed, and that is the developer that has a lot to lose as a result of all this. Sony wants to stay in their good graces, so why not just take it up the tailpipe to keep them on board.

Now, it may piss off a few retailers, but it's not like Sony stuff is flying out the door right now anyway.

It is true that they said that, but "this week" can be defined in different ways. For a lot of people, a week end on Sunday, and it was pretty clear that PSN wouldnt be up at the same day as they made the statement (which was on a Sunday), so many assumed that "this week" was referring to the upcoming week. This is how i understood the statement at least. But if you go after that the week ends on a Saturday, then it has been about 2 days indeed. But regardless, hopefully we will get some new statement from Sony soon :)

I'm sure that some people will switch system, but i think that a lot of people wont do this as well. But "not sure how they will recover from this" sounds like there is a chance that pretty much no one will use PSN anymore, and that will definitely not happened.

They have got to have it up by the end of May.

Sony can't go into E3 with PSN still being borked. Not only that Infamous is due to hit during the start of June.

Like many here I am beginning to lose patience with their continuing lack of accurate information Sony. Rule #1 Don't give a deadline unless you are going to hit it. Something Sony should have thought about last week.

In matters of security it isn't going to be like that. It is likely they are in testing mode to ensure that there are no security loopholes. If questionable things are found they will have to take care of them but you cannot predict every possible weakness a network could have before it is tested.

In addition to that we have no idea what else they are trying to do. They expedited the move that they were planning, which means SNEI is probably in charge and could be using this down time and the assistance of third party/FBI to help them see if they are any holes in their plan to create an all inclusive network for Sony devices across the spectrum.

Their first party titles are normally million sellers. I think they would want the sales.

.. and 2 hour lunch breaks. :)

I am fairly sure Sony is probably loosing more in profits than it would cost to pay their employees and outsourced help for their time on the weekend though.

If people seriously expect inFamous 2 to be given to them for free after this, well, new levels of crazy have been reached.

No way will Infamous 2 be free!! What I do wonder is if they will increase the welcome back package the longer it is offline.

For example if the store is down for 41 days then giving me the previously stated free month of PSN Plus doesn't cover it. I guess that will have to be refined.

oh ok, I was about to freak out until i read this part

The company is in the process of adopting an improved security system and its plan to restart the services fully by May 31 is unchanged, he said.

Sounds to me like everything is on course. Which can mean worry to some, by may 31 is based on a smooth transition with no hiccups.
