PSN still down, internal testers online in various games though

Even if Sony doesn't make any references to the debacle, I reckon the other two might (will?) take pretty cheap shots at it. Especially if Nintendo ends up unveiling their online strategy for Cafe, and ends up utilizing something unfavorable; they'll try to get away with it under the guise of prioritizing security wink wink.
MS will probably use this whole debacle to justify future Xbox Live price increases.

They'll have to stagger the releases, just having one huge update would be terrible for the devs sales-wise.
If they do stagger the releases, it should be with a turnaround time that is much shorter than a week. One to three days per update.

That PSN is still not up is absolutely bonkers. If this is another week without service I am starting to feel that Sony's welcome back presents are still not enough compensation. The lack of online really hurts in this console generation.

Just think about actual devs who are actually getting hurt because of this. Brink, Portal 2, Outland, MK9, etc pubs are the ones who should be up in arms. Not being online for a month sure sucks, but it's not eating into my bank account.

Sony better have a nice, no royalty period for some of the PSN exclusive game developers cause they were royally fucked.

Amidst all this, people must remember that Sony is a divided corporation. The engineers and management working directly on the restoration project have a date in mind, and have stated it to executives who firmly believe in it, but are not announcing it due to the shame involved of not fulfilling it. Not to mention, that date keeps being pushed.

Know that this anguish is shared by PlayStation as a whole, and all the developers who worked so hard to create and release games for PS3, and I feel bad for them, along with their partners.

Sony said they will make it up to them. They better promote the shit outta them when its back up.

The PS2 and Dreamcast both love you.

well, a gaming PC would too. (I'm working up to that point myself.)

Ugh... I've had just as many problems with video cards as I have had with console failures.

Plus, sometimes shit just don't work like it should on a PC.

At this point, they should take as much time as needed to keep this from happening again. Sucks, but better in the long run for users.

I'm assuming the PS Blog guys get the weekend off, hence no updates over the weekend. So we should be getting an update of some sort.

My PC (built in '07) has made this entire debacle endurable for me. If the only gaming machine I owned was a PS3 I'd probably be really freaked out and pissed off by now and maybe even ready to give up on gaming.

I just bought Battlefield: BC2 off Steam for $7. A game I always wanted to play and a deal too good to pass up.

I think that's the important thing to note here. If they were to bring it back up only for the same thing to happen, things would be quite worse.

So um yea. Why are people getting pissed about the entire thing being up by the 31st? We knew that. They said from the beginning that it would partially be up soon but that the entire though wouldn't be up till the end of the month. Also did you not expect the so called press not make sensationalist headlines that are blatantly false? I mean come on really? Of course they will.

True, but they might be able to open some sort of back door that just allows for stuff that has a redeemed code to be downloaded at that moment. I mean, it's just a thought....
I doubt it.....

I apologize if this has been answered but I spent 15 minutes or so perusing the thread but couldn't find the answer:

Have they said what Canada will get in regards to perks once this is back up? I've seen in the original post stuff for Europe and USA but no canuck love. :(

Think it's safe to assume they have to treat everyone the same.

I have a feeling that PSN will immediately crash once it's back up due to all the people bursting to play online. Then Sony will have to start rebuilding again.

Nothing yet specifically, but I'm assuming it'll be the same as the US. Don't they still fall under the jurisdiction of SCEA?

I wish there was an app I could download that would "ping" my phone when PSN was back up. I only need to redeem some dlc codes, but for some reason the fact that the network is down is making me constantly want to check this thread to see if it's back up. It's such a weird sensation - it's like the itch you get when a scab is healing.

It reminds me of when I'm meeting a group of people somewhere in public, like at a bar.

I will glance at the door about once a minute until every expected member of the party shows up.

I do the exact same thing.

Always want what you can't have.

Spot on. I don't understand people who complain about "oh Kotaku wrote this" or "Ars Technica wrote that"; Sony effectively gave the media carte blanche to write whatever they want.

Yep. We can expect a lot more FUD today and tomorrow and the next day until they get pro-active. I guess 'getting in front of a story' isn't a concept that's popular over at Sony.

People still care about Howard Stern?
Yeah what the fuck? I thought he slipped into oblivion when he joined satellite radio (which is monthly paid premium, but Stern is an additional premium above that, so who the fuck would pay two times over for that shit?).

no he's not.

Sticking with my May 9 prediction.

But now I am starting to get upset about updates. It's Monday, almost noon and not even a small update on the blog yet.

It's only 9 am where they are.

A free game will no longer suffice.

My list of demands:
  • 3 free games
  • 1 free month of PS+
  • Totally new Store UI
  • Webkit-based browser
  • X-game voice chat

...I can't even play my PC copy because Steam believes I've never used the PS3 version, even after beating it on SP! This cannot stand without retribution.
