You guys think IGN saying "PSN down 'til May 31" is sensationalistic and misleading... but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it really DID take Sony that long to restore even just online gaming by itself.

After all, "May 31" was an EARLY estimate by Sony on when we can expect PSN to be fully restored. And we all know how fucking RELIABLE Sony's estimates are. I wouldn't be surprised if that deadline has changed by now.

In any case, I'll be a proud new owner of an Xbox 360 by that date.

Question: when it goes up for the initial phase, will i be able to make purchases off the playstation store? the list of things they said they would initially go up doesn't seem to include it and i'm sad now. I have a bunch of codes to redeem and I have a new psp go I want to load stuff on.

well i guess i answered my own question.

Store will be down until the second phase. That includes code redemption and the download list.

Maybe he's european? The organization/categories are a bit diferent, and at first it might seem it doesn't matter because it's a really minor thing, but I sure find anything faster in the USA store than in the european one...

Until they put out a statement addressing what happened to the first phase which missed it's deadline, you can expect people to focus on the May 31st date. It's already all over the Internet anyway.

I'm baffled at comments like this. Is all you people really play are multiplayer games?

I can't speak for anyone else, but all I've been playing on PS3 lately are fighting games and SP games with leaderboards. My PS3's been off since the downtime started. (Granted, I do the majority of my console gaming on other platforms, but I definitely would have used the PSN if it had been up.)

What's wrong with the current store UI?

I wrote a little ditty called "10 things I hate about the PS3," and this was #9. I don't think they've changed it much since I wrote it.

I realize that the PlayStation Store on PS3 allows you to shop for many different kinds of games on two different platforms, but can't it be organized a little better? I hate having to go to "A-F", then "G-J", then something else just to browse everything. Maybe there could be an option to browse all of the newest demos, but hide PS3 or PSP titles if you're only looking for one or the other, for example. Why can't I browse a full list of everything by release date, and filter the way I want it? I feel like there are a lot of ways to browse the store that aren't exactly what I want. Making this worse are the "morphing" ads on the front page (and occasionally other pages). If you see something you're interested in, you've got to move over and click on it almost immediately...half the time, you don't make it before it "morphs" into an ad for something else, and you wind up being taken to an item you're not interested in. Annoying!

Everyone wants the xmb to be XBL'd out. I don't understand why. Its flashy yes but i don't see whats so special about their UI. I guess people like that once your signed in your signed in to everything? friends list, game store, video store etc.

The PS3's xmb could use some changes though. They need to get rid of those bland smiles. The whats new sections really needs to change also.

Pretty much. Personally I prefer the straight forward nature of the XMB. I don't want to see it ruined the way the 360's dashboard was. To this day the original xbox 360 blades >>>> then the jumbled mess that is the current 360 Dashboard.

I don't think anyone who is sane wants that. Easily the worst UI on the market.

I'd say XMB is perfect if they could fix some of the slowdown issues.

The one thing I especially like about the XBLM store is that if you click on a game, it takes you to all the content they have for that game. The UI itself is riddled with ads and slow. I would expect the free service to be riddled with ads, not the paid one.

I am on firmware 3.55(this has been a long semester), but I bought portal 2 the other day to celebrate finishing finals. Can I update to 3.60 using a usb and be able to play? I was also really looking forward to LA Noire next week.

If the game requires you to update the update is already on the disc. You should be fine!

- We don't have a date for PSN going back up, but it'll be before the store goes back up. How soon before? No idea.
- 31st is effectively the last possible date for everything to go back up.

There was meant to be 2 phases, but the deadline for the first phase has passed with no comment.

Leaving just the 31st as the date for when everything is meant to be up at the moment, until Sony make things clearer. Or don't.

- PSTwo Classics - for the HD collections that are there
- PSThree Classics - for BD PS3 games that are there
- Dreamcast Classics
- Plenty of changes in the movie section
