[Push Square] Sony's lack of communication is becoming an issue

you know what's not officially revealed until days before it's available?

iPhones.

But those aren't successful consumer devices obviously, so I should think of another example ... :pie_thinking:

Some of you guys would defend Sony if they said they wanted to brutally murder you. Wanting a company to have basic communication is not crazy, It's far more rational than defending them not.

It's only an issue for us, because we want everything on our own timeline. Which is always, we want it and we want it yesterday.

Sony and their marketing team are sitting quite pretty.

When do you see the UI of new iPhones? Also the day before, or during WWDC in June?

Bad example. Apple does a deep dive into the hardware and features long before its released. They even do a tear-down of the device and actually show how it looks in real life.

If Apple took the same approach with their next phone that Sony's doing with the PS5, the tech press would call it vaporware.

The UI of the iPhone has hardly changed in any serious manner in 13 years. Yeah they finally did widgets, and there are some different gestures, and there have been new coats of paint, but if you bought the iPhone 1 then picked up the iPhone 11, you wouldn't be lost in the slightest. What on earth does that have to do with the PS5? We are still 1.5 months before release. They could literally never show the UI and let consumers discover it upon boot up and it might actually be a fun thing to be surprised by. It's not like people are going to suddenly get lost when trying to interact with the thing. It's a game console.

From which ass did you pull this?

iPhones are revealed about one week before they go on sale. Apple NEVER does a "deep dive into the hardware" long before it's released. At the reveal show (likely in October for the iPhone 12. How much do you know about the iPhone 12, officially from Apple?) they give a cursory overview of the chip, the performance of the chip with big easy to read numbers ("40% faster!") etc. Everything you wrote is literally 100% false.

That's the exact point. Apple DOES hide hardware until just before release (typically) and yet everyone trusts it's coming because the rest of the tech industry understands that's how it works and isn't made up of the babies that seem to populate gaming forums.

Sony talked about performance months ago. They showed the device months before release. Now we have people whining that because Sony isn't doing a "teardown" (a completely unnecessary thing for them to do, plenty of third party sources will do that after release), or talking incessantly about their product when we've already got a price, release date games, and pre-orders that are sold out, that they aren't doing enough to satisfy your needs. And you insinuate the PS5 is vaporware?

I'm starting to think gaming is a mental illness for many people.

The teardown is cool but optional. I just want full deets on the BC situation.

This is so wrongheaded lol, you can't seriously believe that what Sony is doing is anything like what Apple does.

They're probably doing each other's makeup too as communicating to its audience doesn't seem like a priority.

It's an issue until it isn't. People just want more info now, which is understandable, but as soon as Sony releases new info, they'll move on to discussing that. It's basically, "I don't have anything to talk about in my video/article right now, so that's what I'm going to talk about."

I almost feel sorry for gaming websites , Sony has forsaken them so they are walking on a obscure road of desinformation. Expect next reports as :

Demons Souls its a release game for PS5, but will its UI let people play it?

PS5 can be placed horizontally could it boost its SSD ? Sony keeps quiet.

What is PS5? Baby dont hurt me..

This^

People are at home and bored that's the only reason they are calling sony out about not having "enough info". We don't get the console in our hands until Nov 12 which is over a month from now so I don't see the rush.

People are downplaying how much the pandemic is impacting this console launch, I am surprised that we are even getting these consoles this year. This is also most likely why we have not seen a lot of gameplay on these systems, I can't imagine how hard social distancing must be for dev teams while they have to work on a game.

I already ordered one. What's the need to keep me excited? I've owned every PlayStation console. I know what I'm getting.

They already showed us games. I just wish they were clear on if their older titles are going to receive enhanced patches for the PS5.

If they're silent, then that likely means we're not going to get it and they're just going to sell us on a remaster.

It's a fair question to ask. I would have laughed at these type of articles back when Xbox had "momentum™" in June and a lot of "concern" was fueled by console war FUD. We know how that ended when the PS5 reveal event shut all of that down and MS shat the bed. However, a lot of time has passed since then. We've yet to see a lot of other important things not shown in either of the 2 showcases, nor in blog posts. And we're 1 month till launch (5 weeks). Obviously I expect a lot to be revealed this October, the majority, if not absolutely everything we need to know BUT it's cutting it very close to the finish line and we're simply not used to this kind of marketing. We've built expectations throughout the years, good ones at that, that pitted these companies against each other at specific timeframes and constrained their BS shenanigans. You can throw COVID excuses etc around but you can't in the same breath claim it's cause they are on their "own timeline". We'll see.

I think the pressure is fine. Will the competition and their respective fanboys use the concern for stealth console warring and FUD.... yeah. But it's what it's. Nothing better than "shutting the haters up" and clearing the air? 1 month to go. Fuck 2020.

MS is killing it with their communication.

Idk, SonyGAF fans may just wave it off as another PS5 will outsell!!!
But surely, you are not worry at how nonchalent SCE has become, to the point of clueless/arrogant?

Sony has been arrogant since ps3 launch, people don't really seem to care as long as they get some games that can only be played on the platform.

Don't you dare trying to sell us apple is pro consumer. Even that comparison makes Sony look bad if they can be in the same category.

This. It's their marketing plan. I imagine the UI is being kept secret so none of its features end up on Xbox at launch. I bet in the last few weeks to launch we will get bombarded with information. They will crank the advertising up to 11.

I legit thought you were thelastword with this one, assuming they have UI features that MS would want to poach

I don't think it really matters.

the people getting it immediately, will get it regardless.
There's nothing sony can say or do to get more people on board because they're at production capacity anyway.

so just wait. wait for it to come out and then you'll have tons of videos of various things.

I honestly believe that if the Xbox preorders weren't a shit show after they let people know ahead of time they would be bashing Sony even more because of the fact preorders went up without notice. Then, all the bots took the Xbox preorders so all you hear is the retailers messed up. The point is, msoft had a blueprint on how to do it right and tried to throw Sony under the bus with a few tweets and they're still not getting any shit for not communicating with retailers on how to make the preorder process fair for their customers. So the retailers let the ps5 preorders go up early and it's Sony's fault even though bots took up a much smaller chunk than they could have since it was too quick. With Xbox, the retailers weren't told by Microsoft to not allow bots as best as they could like by putting up captchas or whatever. But it's the retailers fault and the bots.

It's frankly amazing, and a bit scary, that people are really saying that Sony need to show NOTHING, say NOTHING. They only needed to say that "it exists, these games exist and the price" and nothing, absolutely nothing more.

How the hell people get to this point?
If Sony is becoming conformable listening to these people, these "fans", they're doomed!

please say that just because the other ppl cry and demand to show everything, me of course i want to see the UI all the features how the BC works etc etc etc but they have their road map and timeline to show stuff. this ppl need to be more patience yeah 45 days for the console release but remember pretty sure most ppl are gonna get their ps5 till next year, so they will have a lot of time to see how the system works.

Its no issue. Is it an issue because xbox already went? Sony dont react to them its the other way around.

They have 6 weeks to get stuff out. I want to hear and see it as much as the next guy but it will come.

Does someone force people to order PS5 ?

For me personally there's enough information to pre-order.
I don't need to see the UI and complete disassembly video to make a decision.

If there's not enough info for you personally - don't pre-order.

People are getting more whiny and more touchy with every hour now.
Whilst I do somewhat agree with you, there are so many other details that they have not been forthcoming about. I'm not one to care much about previous gen BC but its very different times going from this gen to next gen then it was the previous generations. This gen digital rose up and people have invested significantly in their digital PS4 libraries, now we are getting told PS4 saves may not work over to the new console, some PS4 games may not be compatible etc.

This situation of owning a PS4 game especially ones late into the generation, getting a free PS5 upgrade and all your saves, progress, unlocks achievements etc are gone and you have to start again, that's a huge deal! Who knows what else we don't know yet.

As a consumer we have the right to make an informative decision based on all the facts. That's how a product being sold to the market works. Consumers are being robbed of this and are forced to purchase the console if they want it upon release not even knowing how they are going to transition from PS4 to PS5 because if not, they will miss out on pre ordering due to hype, scalping and limited numbers.

I get that Sony want to hold their cards close to their chest but all information should be ready available by the time we can pre order. It's no secret that both Microsoft and Sony have handled this poorly.

So I would say that some people have a good reason to get all touchy and whiny. Some take it too far yes but the situation is pretty terrible. It hasn't stopped me from pre ordering a PS5 but Sony are currently not being very consumer friendly at all right now.

I wonder if certain online personalities are a bit jealous that Japan youtubers seem to get the first showing of the PS5?

Is it actually an issue or an issue for gaming websites that need content for hits.

Totally this!

"How are we supposed to peddle our bullshit if Sony doesn't release a steady stream of info for us to monetize?" All these media whores are so fuckin predicable it's stupid. Why do people buy into it?

Apple also doesn't hype the ever living SHIT out of it's products. Most of the information that gets released about their products are "leaks" be it intentional or not, Apple stays tightlipped and lets the industry speculate like crazy.

Sony isn't in that game, and Sony hasn't played it that way at all, they've been abusing the hype machine like MS because this is the console market's game. They're pulling out when we've all seen their full girth, it's not a positive, people want to see what they can do with it.

When hack single console fanboi sites start to whine because they don't have novel content to rant and rave about it's not a good thing.

I agree with you. I guess that both Sony and Microsoft just don't want to give any information that would shown them in the negative light, but this is the standard practice in all the markets.
I'd say it's totally understandable, but pretty shitty for consumers.

And again - it's important to remember - if you use the categories like "fair" and "consumer-friendly" when you speak about corporations, you are just brainwashing yourself. They could act like they care if it gives them edge over competitor in some situation, but next time they could act totally the other way to maximize the profit.

Small companies could act more human-like depending on their management, but big corporations are just targeting profits.
