Putting tasteful gaming artwork on your walls

My flat is crying out for posters like these but I can't hammer any nails or whatever into the walls as I'm renting.

What's the best way to hang framed posters up without destroying the walls GAF?

I have one of these film posters, which looks pretty damn classy, no space to hang unfortunately

You never use nails (not even on the walls from your own house). You are going to need to drill a hole in the wall, put a fischer and an appropiate hanging device inside of it. When you leave the place you use stucco (plaster ? im not really sure about the proper english word for this) on the hole after removing the fischer. If you are really serious about hanging art on your wall you may want to add little spacers behind your frame so its not touching the wall and thus preventing humidity from ruining your posters/paintings.

When I read "tasteful gaming artwork" I imagined you meant artwork that's related to games that people who don't play games wouldn't realize it was from a game, so to them it'd just look like good artwork while people who do know the reference would appreciate it even more. But then in the OP you have a blatant Pokemon poster so I don't know what you mean by that phrase.

Ah thanks, drilling would be the ideal solution but it'll obviously cause damage to the walls... I need a method that won't leave a mark.

Know of any reliable alternatives?

We use these in our place. They've worked really well so far, nothing fallen off, though I tend to use a couple more than stated for the weight/size just to make sure.

Stuff like this is what I like/have. If you didn't know any better you might just think it was a movie poster or at the very least not something in your face about being from a video game.

Photo quality is kind of shitty though. No idea what has been up with my phone's camera lately.

Framed pictures can look really nice, although I prefer getting my stuff printed on canvas, aluminium or glass when I want to showcase it and hang it on the wall. Just gives it a little extra compared to regular old pictures.

Some of the artwork in this topic is pretty nice by the way. Others... not so much :P

If you have to paint the place before leaving (at least in my country its something you are asked to do when you rent an apartment) if you apply stucco and sand it properly before painting it wont leave a mark.

This could be a good solution. Usually I dont want any kind of adhesives on my walls but in the description here it says "Hold strongly yet removes cleanly". The problem i have with adhesive solutions is sometimes when removing them they damage the paint or leave adhesive remains / stains.

Going by Amazon users reviews they dont seem to be 100% reliable (damaging paint when removing, falling frames) but a lot of people love them. Looks like a YMMV case.

This is my absolute favorite gaming poster I have ever seen and it should be on the walls in every gamer's apartment:

We've had zero problems so far after following the directions to the letter, they're really weird, like a kind of rubber strip with Velcro stuff attached. I'm sure they're powered by magic, it's the only explanation.

I have this Dark Souls world map on one of my narrow walls. Click the pics to zoom in on detail:

How did you get this? I was under the impression the original artist left it unfinished? This is a must buy for me.

Hopefully nobody minds a but of shameless self promoting, I did a Chrono Trigger print for Sanshee a couple of years ago, I think it turned out nice (its been sold out for a while tho)

I have a blatantly un-tasteful Sonic wallscroll over my pc, and a bunch of Godzilla movie posters in my room lol.

You do you OP, I like that Pokemon poster. I wouldn't concern myself with being tasteful if you're an adult, do as you please. I will admit there is some great stuff in here tho, that Bioshock splicer poster looks good.

Each time there is a thread like that i realize the dozen of people buying my stuff on GAF are really secretive about it :p

Well, I think this is a good place to ask. Is this image a high enough resolution to make a decent-sized poster out of?:

It's 1500x1000. I've found higher resolutions for it, but they seem to be distorted and pixelated, which makes me think that this particular one is the original resolution.

Anyway, I'd love to have a poster made out of it if I could. Worse comes to worst, I'll just have to reproduce it on canvas with actual water colors, but I really don't feel like doing that :P

It's of Chrono Trigger btw. Just in case anyone was wondering.

Most of these are great, and I'd love to get some as canvas prints if I can get a high enough res image.

But a few of you have an....interesting take on the word "tasteful" lol!

I like minimalistic approaches to gaming apparel and posters. Also, wow at some of you who'd seriously hang pictures of busty anime girls.

I've wanted to order this poster a few times. I just wish it didn't say Last of Us on it as it ruins it for me.

The guys store has a bunch of nice minimalist game posters but they all feel the need to slap the games name on it too.

You could always go with original commission art for your wall. I have the following up:

I don't know if it's tasteful, but I like it. :3

I also have some more muted lithographs and other general art.

I see nothing wrong with it. I have multiple Orioto pieces up in my house (<3 you orio bby)

His piece of Rinoa standing in the flower field is right at my front door. Haha.

I have this on a large canvas on my wall, this image is reversed though, so Cloud is the opposite side to what is shown. It looks great.
I like to put things up that are no so blatantly video game art, making it something people can wonder or spark a conversation about.

I plan to frame a few pieces framed and want more. Also have a piece of The Last of Us artwork on one what was never released as an actual poster (but given to me by a friend who knows the concept artists).

Currently trying to figure out what to do with this...

(Hohokum Kiteland Isles from Blik)

Might even give it away, since I'm not sure how long I'll be living here and don't want to apply it to my wall :)
