Putting tasteful gaming artwork on your walls

Tasteful? Fuck that. If I'm going to go manchild, I'm going all in.

Pop-art and posters are fun for decoration, sure. For how long do these stay interesting though? How often do you find yourself admiring them?

For images like these I find myself needing steady rotation to keep it interesting. They provide a breathing space and some nice colour, but that's about it.
Yeah, this is my struggle. I have no qualms displaying my love of gaming, but they need to be something timeless enough that I'll still like them months later. Striking enough that they're interesting, but subtle enough that they don't feel over-commercialized and tacky. The other thing is, I tend to bounce back and forth from the "Nintendo" side of videogames and the "realistic" side of videogames, so depending on my mood, I prefer to be surrounded by the style of one, vs. the other.

Quoting myself for adding a real life picture of the frames

fucking awesome! (i love Tetsuya Mizuguchi games... and LOVE that cover of EEE)

The only Video Game art i have on my walls is a Framed Darksiders II GI Signed by Joe Madureira... And a Watercolor i personally painted of Joe Madureiras Soul Reaver PSM cover.

I love this one, but I also like it reversed like this because it evokes the positioning in the final battle scene of FF7.

Thank you. It does look great on the wall. When I said to my partner I had ordered some video game art for the wall, she looked horrified - and she loves games - but she thought it was really tasteful once it showed up also.

Isn't Sephiroth left-handed?

Predominantly he uses his left hand, there are also occasions he uses his right.

How did you get this? I was under the impression the original artist left it unfinished? This is a must buy for me.

Hopefully nobody minds a but of shameless self promoting, I did a Chrono Trigger print for Sanshee a couple of years ago, I think it turned out nice (its been sold out for a while tho)

Darn, is this not on there anymore? I'd love to get a print of that.

I haven't gotten a frame yet, but I plan to hang this up when I move at the end of the month. Screw tasteful, this makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside.

Some of you seem very embarrassed by the hobby that you have ostensibly come to an online forum to discuss.

For reference I have Marinko's Smash and OOT/Majora's Mask prints framed. Also some Star Wars prints from Bottleneck, and a few canvas pieces by local artists, all very nerdy.

Everybody is different. I'm not sure my mrs would be keen on game posters up in the front room but she doesn't give a fuck if I'm on here discussing it.

Man, the remarks about how gaming art can't be tasteful, are super disrespectful to the artists that devote their careers to this stuff.

Really baffling how someone can devote themselves to a hobby, they seemingly have very little respect for, it seems pretty self-loathing.

As for OP's question, I think it can totally work, but I agree with some that no text is preferable, in a lot of cases. Except, for example, some stuff from Rapture you see, emulating advertisements.

Please tell me there is a place I can purchase the Mirror's Edge and SotC ones. Pretty please!

Where can I get these?

Had a local place that does large size prints print them out. Then had them framed by a local frame shop. Either use those two images or google "neogaf video game art work" to find something suitable that is Hi res enough.

How do you buy these?

If you go to the Society 6 website and search for Astor Alexander you can buy printed (or other, more expensive options) of all the Pulp Nintendo and Burial at Sea pieces. The Harley one is from his deviant art page, I'm not sure if it's available or not :/

I've had this since the EB Games pre-release video night they had. I use to have all the washable tattoos too. I need a better frame. I have a lot of posters that need frames. This poster has art I haven't seen anywhere else either.

my wife like my wall decorating...

Fair play to your wife.

My wife would rather me put pictures of our child on the wall for some reason haha.

And I'm not knocking anybody who does have artwork on the walls, just saying that whilst everybody's love of gaming is the same attitudes towards how far that extends into our lives is different.

When I was looking at buying houses last year, I started working on some simple images to hang on the walls. An idea I really liked was the original Pokemon sprites lined up. Made my brother and cousin a shirt for Xmas with the design for Red/Blue.

My plan was to have the art line certain parts of the house in framed pics. Life makes you change things though, so wound up w/ an apartment and bare walls. Made one for each gen, except for X/Y because I couldn't find any sprite rips.
I remember having as child two posters with first and second generations of pokemon, all numbered and in order using official art work. They probably were not official, but I really want to find them again.
And yeah, I am not exactly tasteful myself, I have Contra Hard Corps japanese cover and recent DMC4:SE cover printed as A2 and framed into shitty wooden frames.

I have this on a large canvas on my wall, this image is reversed though, so Cloud is the opposite side to what is shown. It looks great.
I like to put things up that are no so blatantly video game art, making it something people can wonder or spark a conversation about.

WHERE DO I GET THIS

I DON'T CARE THAT THE DATE IS WRONG

I NEED IT

Some of these are great.

I tend to enjoy the minimalistic ones more, in particular that Fourside one.

Is there a good website that has nice posters to browse through? In particular: Mario, Earthbound, Zelda, maybe some Team Fortress 2.

Absolutely, I do it all the time. I've actually run into the issue of finding more tasteful stuff.

I have two big ass empty frames that I need to fill and I haven't found anything that I really want in them yet. And I bought a print from Orito that I need to get a better frame for.

I have one of these from a Kickstarter a few years ago:

And I have a few of these Olly Moss pieces:

Like most things, though, good game art is very hard to come by. I would love to see some Wipeout3-era TDR prints but aside from that, I don't expect to buy much game art in the future. I did kind of like the look of this Infamous Second Son print though.

EDIT: I have only just realized that I hung the Lara Croft print the WRONG WAY. I am mortified.

I have Ayami Kojima's Castlevania: Lament of Innocence cover on my bedroom wall. It's not something I would put in the living room, but it's a gorgeous piece to me.

I want to get a Yoshitaka Amano lithograph print once I get my own place. They're pricey though, especially the Final Fantasy ones. They're less blatantly "video gamey", so I would feel comfortable putting it in a public room.

I love those day of the dead posters. So cool.

Recently bought Tacoma print with art by Rebecca Mock.

I just got the Game Informer issue with this artwork as the cover, such a gorgeous piece.

I could seriously have nothing but those Journey stills on my walls and be totally happy about it.
