Allmost bought it, but just realised I'm drinking beer, and don't know for sure I can afford it :P since most likely I wont be playing it a lot.

Guess it will depend on Formula 1 qualifying tomorrow :) god loves my bettings :)

"Do it. Do it."

Man, so much nostalgia even just looking at their Steam page. When I was a pipsqueak, I use to go to my brothers summer hire job and play Commander Keen on his bosses computers (Who were completely cool with it) while we waited for him to get off work. Good times.

End of Official presentation. Q&A BEGINS, and will be summary only for liveblog posting. Look for our full video of the presentation and Q&A as QuakeCon continues.

1: Q: If Rage will ship on 2 DVDs, how will that work for multi-console?

A: The source data is more than that even. We go through tons of data compression, so the game is segmented in that regard. I wouldn't expect an HD DVD release for Rage though. What's interesting though is that it all fits fine with a 256m video card. On PS3, video requirements doesn't even completely use the 256 video memory; we wish we could use more in other places. Bottom line, it can be compressed from source.

2: Q: On XBLA and Wii VC, would you be interested in making titles for those?

A: As of right now, no. There isn't enough bandwidth for us to do it, and those games are end up being a weird balancing act with data compression. Offensive is too strong a word, but they don't fit my programing tastes. It's great for gamers and developers though. It really exceeded my expectations for the service (speacing directly on XBLA here).

3: Q: Have you ever considered handing off the power to the gamers, specifically seen in Little Big Planet, or perhaps an MMO style game?

A: We've talked about it, but there hasn't been a force really driving that. We're working on what developers can use, and we'd have to look at it in a different way when dealing with mods. The age of the mod-maker has passed. It's great for getting into the industry, and in that way it's still a good thing, but there was a time when everyone made their house or office in a Doom editor, but games are simply getting bigger. That type of freedom is getting harder to use.

Awesome, awesome, awesome.

No Wolfenstein info, what the hell is going on?

5:39: New Wolfenstein game will be rather different from past Wolfenstein games. However he still loves simple games, like Quake Zero and planned Quake Arena DS game. "Honestly, I sit down and look at Enemy Territory, and I'm a little overwhelmed."

That's it so far. ><

"That is the name. Rage is the game we've been working on internally, and there's quite a story behind it." Talking about when id was deciding on next game. Initially, after Doom 3, id was working on a different game. First working on dark survival horror island game codenamed Darkness. "Obviously somebody else has already picked up that name now."
I hope they go back to this concept some day once they're done with Rage.

also guys

some of the older games use dosbox,

and they work with dosbox gui launcher if you wanna tweak (at least it did for me, I use dfend gui)
Nice, didn't expect that. Affords the games more customization than if they were just standard compatibility ports.

Why am i not seeing the Complet Pack in my Steam???

Pleas don't tell me cause i'm in germany. :( I want the full Pak. If so can anybody help me with this? is there a way?

I think those games where banned in Germany? Or you had to ask for them, they where not allowed to showed them in stores.

Wolfenstein goodness would of been so nice, but I'm pleased nonetheless. Rage sounds interesting, Quake Arena (Factor 5) potentially hot and so needed right now to spice up all the newer IPs alongside UT, and then ID on Steam. Definitely satisfies the goodness credentials quite easily.

The Quad Damage tourney was pretty crazy. fojji easily dominated toxjq in Quake and Quake 2 with scores of like 44 to 2 and 26 to 3. Then toxjq comes back and kicks his butt like 21 to -1 in Quake 3 and 17 to 2 in Quake 4. Clearly a champion of old-school Quake vs. a champion of new-school Quake, but the tie-breaker was Quake 4 and so new-school won out, although the second time it was a much closer match. In the Quake Wars tournament the Swedes (Team Dignitas) beat the top seeded USA team (Team Hot).

Today at QuakeCon in addition to the reshowing of the Rage footage we also had a chance to watch Matt Hooper of id Software walk through the Rage engine and show us all kinds of features. We recorded the whole thing for you guys and it's now available on FileShack. The download is over 400 megs but we're sure you'll enjoy it. So check out the HD Rage developer walkthrough

I recorded that MP3, and initially I wasn't going to post it since QuakeUnity had posted a video of the keynote, but theirs ends just before the Q&A portion, so I figured it was worth getting up today in case anyone wanted to hear that. QU is gonna have a video of it tomorrow apparently though. Maybe next year I'll bring a proper video camera :/

Last night's QuakeCon press conference brought us the news that Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will launch in North America on 2nd October - but now we know we're getting it here a few days prior to that.

That's thanks to the ever-helpful Enemy Territory community blog, which reveals the European date to be 28th September - the Friday beforehand.

As blogger badman puts it: "Mark your calendars, gentleman!"

Speaking to Eurogamer earlier, Splash Damage's Paul Wedgwood also clarified the situation regarding the PS3 and 360 builds of the game. They won't launch at the same time, he said, but certainly in the 360's case the product is identical, but for the expected interface changes. He called it a "non-simultaneous simultaneous" release, which is a nice soundbite, and we honour nice soundbites around here.

For more on all that's happening at QuakeCon, check out our QuakeCon 2007 Conference Report or hit back and whack your arrow on John Carmack's handsome chin.

this doesn't sound good for the ps3 version :(

I have no idea what non-simultaneous simultaneous can mean either.

I had it in my brain that QW for consoles is early 08.

Nooooo. I thought that since they decided to drop the simultaneous release we'd at least see the 360 version this year.

:(

Damn, I had no idea he won $20,000, that's crazy. Good match though, toxjcs rail at 10:09 during the 5th map grand final was like water. So, good.

hehe he won a LOT of money last year he lost the 1st tourney of the year then won all the rest think he got $100k+.

theres some real nice matches on stage 6, heres on of my faves one of the british guys doing the commentary is fnatic:2gd an ex pro q4 player and gives some real nice insight into the game.
