Quantic dream on PS3

Sony is funding quite a few interesting high-budget games this gen. I applaud them on that move and hope they'll have some success with it, because if they don't it tells the industry to produce more FPS and minigame collections :/

This is nothing really new though. Look at Team Ico.

SOTC probably broke even since it sold more than a million WW.

This is good news. Ive been saying it all along that Heavy Rain was going to be PS3 exclusive. They gave it exclusive treatment at E3.

Although we dont know if it is actually HR.

Glad that Sony seems to have done a complete 180 from 6 months ago, where they were still in PS2-mode and expected developers to naturally make exclusives for the platform.

Also good that there'll be no supernatural garbage in Heavy Rain, jesus did that ruin Fahrenheit.

Whelp the PR is now up on Threespeech:

http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=456
Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios has announced it’s collaborating with developer Quantic Dream on a game that will “redefine cinematic realtime entertainment; setting a new benchmark in delivering emotionally compelling experiences to gamers.”

Founded in 1997, French developer Quantic Dream specialises in content rich in interactive and emotive narration. Their best known work, 2005’s Atari-published Fahrenheit (known as Indigo Prophecy in the US and Canada) won awards and acclaim for refreshing the adventure game genre through innovative blending of film and gaming techniques.

Michael Denny, Vice President, SCE Worldwide Studios, said: “We’re really excited to be working with Quantic Dream for the first time and to have this opportunity to once again push the gaming experience to realise a new level of interactivity and, in particular, to engage players at an emotional level never experienced before. We’re looking forward to revealing more news on this special title later this year.”

David Cage, Founder, President and CEO of Quantic Dream, said, “We always believed that “next generation” meant more meaningful content based on players’ emotional involvement. To us, PS3 is the only platform that can truly deliver on this promise, and SCE WWS is a group that is both inspiring and pleasant to work with.”

It’s anticipated that this collaboration will make full use of the power of the Cell Broadband Engine and game development technology in the PS3. We’ll keep you posted.

The ccompany line is getting kinda rediculous. I read one more "Power of Cell" in a PR and i'm gonna trow up

eh just ignore it, its pr speak...I think sony just want to emphasise the power of the ps3 because of the high price...its something they should do...though the price is TOO high

site is being renovated for the 25th so I guess there will be content then

peace

Erm that wasn't in the PR, it was added as commentary by Threespeech... which in itself is PR but hey, you know what I mean.

[edit]I can't read. NM.

I was wondering when this was going to show up..was about to bump the thread with "hoax"? :p

So..later this year = E3? July 25? Their website revamp seems not too long after E3.

This new project will fully benefit from the power of the Cell processor and the technology of the most recent development PS3, and should hoist on a level never yet reached the emotional feelings which the players will be able to feel.

But, but... they took the Emotion Engine out!

I'm guessing it'll be at E3, perhaps in a low key fashion, but with a bigger presence at Leipzig? It doesn't really mean as much any more I suppose since there's barely 2 months difference between the two events now.

Given the development stories about the tech demo I'm really interested in seeing what it looks like, now they've had a realistic amount of time to work on it.

Would be cool to see a trailer or something at the conference.

I wouldn't count on it, it's still Quantic Dream.

Yeah but it has Sony backing them up, i'm sure they are able to work faster since they should have a decent budget and can have a bigger team...

Bah, if it's 2009, then it sucks. Games are being shown way to early.

If by that you mean they're revealing more of the PS3 titles they've been funding for some time, then yeah, totally.

It would have to be Heavy Rain surely. The game didn't even have a publisher last year, and I couldn't honestly imagine the developers working on two big projects like that.

I don't get it.

The poster is old, but it's cool, i like how it looks exactly like a poster for a movie.

I believe the intention was a reference to that old riposte, 'would you like some cheese with that whine?'

I see. First of all, I have one of two points to make.

1) The best way to aviod such things is easy. Don't read Sony PR announcements. Simple.

2) How exactly does one 'trow up'? I did a Google imgae search and this came up....

..disturbing.

Damn! A few days ago, that "leak" was a "E3 suprise" :'(

I thought that might have been the case. Seemed a strange time to announced such a thing.

All is not lost, I assume that's not all you've planned? ;)

To play the devil's advocate, the way that PR is worded, it almost seems like it's some game SCEE is developing, with some help from QD, so it could be something other than Heavy Rain? :p

I wasn't upset. I just find it hilariously corny and stupid. "Teh powa of teh Cell"

I mean, it's like they whore the damn Cell line in every PR, Dev interview, etc I bet Sony demands the line to be delivered everytime Ps3 is mentioned.

I hope this game is at least a 2008 release.
If you want a shoddy ending like their last game, sure. I'd rather it come out late 2009 so there's a chance they can actually finish the game properly, I don't trust these guys after Indigo Prophecy. :(

I'd say that was a stone cold fact. I'm sure Nintendo and MS have their own variations.

Next-Gen seems to think that the game isn't Heavy Rain, but I'm not sure if they know anything we don't.

http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6237&Itemid=2

I don't think Quantic would be large enough to handle two projects. Although I guess it's possible that's where the 'collaboration' enters the equation, with SCEE resourcing it, including human resources. I think it's a fairly unlikely explanation, though, given that what little description of the game that is there tallies well with what we know of Heavy Rain.
