Paramount Pictures has tapped Michael B. Jordan to play Clancy hero John Clark in a new film series, Variety has learned.

Sources tell Variety that Paramount is developing two pics based on the Clancy books “Rainbow Six” and “Without Remorse,” both novels in which Clark is the main star. “Without Remorse” will be the first film of the two, serving as an origin story for the character.

Akiva Goldsman will also be spearheading this endeavor as the film’s main producer with Jordan, Josh Appelbaum, and Andre Nemec also producing. Paramount is currently meeting with writers and directors for “Without Remorse.”

Now, when are we getting a proper Rainbow Six game? Siege is about as much Rainbow Six as My Little Pony is to He-Man. Hell, I would take a Vegas remaster on PS4/PS5 at this point.

If this is based on the book then the casting has failed. John Clark is an over the hill veteran by the setting of Rainbow Six who is expecting to be a grandfather, he is nowhere as young or athletic as Michael B. Jordan and its from his perspective that we see how skilled the other, less developed, characters of Rainbow are.

If you have a team of young 'Expendables' like characters, you end up losing the impact of how skilled and lethal these soldiers are for the sort of hollywood hyperbole the book itself makes fun of.

You know who would make an excellent John Clark? Willem Dafoe, who also played him in Clear and Present Danger.
President Jack Ryan can also be played by Harrison Ford or Alec Baldwin.

They should use the old cast to launch the younger (mid-twenties to thirties) Rainbow team whereby Ding Chavez can lead in place of John Clark in subsequent films. Michel B. Jordan can be or take the place of Chavez for all I care since Chavez' character revolves around how hotheaded he is and how much John trusts him.

One issue is the setting of the film. Rainbow Six works in an era where the Soviet Union has fallen and the world has thematically different terrorists from ETA, Ex-IRA, FARC, Abu Sayyef, ex-Baader Meinhoff etc. that present a varied threat across many countries.

Today most of these terrorist groups are forgotten or have reconciled into political actors. Are they just going to replace the terrorists with Islamic terrorists to remain current?

They have tried this before, it didn't work. Shooters appeal to their audience but doesn't translate to any kind of entertainment to the general public. There is nothing to build movie on based on shoot and respawn.
