Agreed, this better be a huge success. They deserve it and I really appreciate that they're doing a BD version of it! I love having my games in a box :)!

Lucky yuros :p

I'll be fine with Digital Download, just as long as Insomniac gets my moneh!

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

Do you think there's a possibility for a DLC Game (just like Q4B) for Resistance? I'd fucking buy that too.

Been looking for something good to play on my shiny new PS3, and was impressed with the demo of the PS3 Ratchet (my first Ratchet experience ever). Still waiting for Future Tools of Destruction to go on sale though, sorry jstevenson :p A focus on platforming sounds great!

You know, I certainly think it would be something that's possible, but that depends more on how R2 does (which I'm sure it will do great).

I think, however, it would be better for a PSN based Resistance game to focus on side story elements. For instance, I would love to see a PSN based Resistance title that took place in Russia, and dealt with the Cloven as well as Chimeran enemies. It would be really cool to flesh out the backstory of the game, building off of things we already know, instead of adding canon.

I think it would be important for the story of those games to be completely unrelated to Hale or the "main" story line, so as to be accessible to new gamers as well.

Who knows though, if Q4B proves to be a successful venture for Insomniac games, then we very well could see a smaller Resistance title in the same vein. Like I always say, vote with your wallet!

Yep. All the bluster in the world won't convince companies to move. It's money, plain and simple.

We have a discussion in the Bionic Command Rearmed thread about how you should DL demos first, then buy the downloadable game. That way, companies see a high attach rate. This is kind of the same thing.

These episodic things I'm fine with, but only as long as there are full game versions along the way, with proper online components and a lengthy campaign. Just look at the HL2 Episodes. I'm actually rather annoyed they went with Episodes for the game, none of them have been an especially tremendous technological jump, and we still don't have any CSS 3 on the way :(

3-4 hours? Hmmm, that's a tough sell for me.

$15 for 3-4 hours of finely tuned ratchet gameplay is such a fair price it ridiculous.
go buy a dvd and tell me how must lasting fun you get out of that.

Damnit, this is coming out next week? I got every R&C game on release day, but I just don't have the cash with another semester starting up in a week or so.

Fuck.

8.0 Presentation
An extension of Tools of Destruction's awesome universe, the production values here are high once again. Sadly, the smaller scope means cutbacks on the number of cool weapons and storyline.

9.0 Graphics
Ratchet & Clank is still one of the best looking games the PS3 has to offer. Not only are its artistic merits great, but the technology behind the visual effects and presentation are fantastic

7.5 Sound
The voice-over work is of the usual high-quality, but the soundtrack is sparse while borrowing a lot from the last game. Cool audio effects.

7.5 Gameplay
Extra-tight controls and classic R&C shooting infused with more platforming and puzzle solving. However, there's limited opposition, fewer weapons and upgrades, and less gameplay variance than ever.

6.0 Lasting Appeal
Depending on your skill, it'll last 3-4 hours. There are multiple difficulties and a few hidden goodies, but the lack of depth compared to previous titles makes it hard to justify a return.

7.4
Decent OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

$15 for a game that's 3-4 hrs with no replay value and no trophy support is a tough sell. I would have bit and bought this day 1 with trophy support, but I may just wait until the price drops.

and this is coming from someone who LOVED Rachet and Clank Future

I think IGN missed the point of a digital download episodic experience.

A 3 to 4 hour game will not give you as much replayability as a 12 to 14 hour game. At the same time, you are paying 1/4 the price.

Lost all credibility.
Despite the lenght, as long as the game feels "complete" I'm all for it. If it feels like a 3-4 hour demo, then no.

Wow....nice spoiler dipwad...

Um all he spoiled was that a new Ratchet game is coming out in 09. It's probably going to be announced in some magazine early next year. Shocking, I know.

yeah I guess I was a little harsh...sorry.

I'm one of those people who like to find things out on their own....that pic looks like a game image, so I'm assuming you get it after beating QFB.

I think you guys are being a little unfair to the IGN reviewer. He wasn't docking the game simply for being short and higher priced than most downloadable games, he docks it for feeling out of character for an R&C adventure and it doesn't work as well for him.

Edit: and the 1up review echoes his sentiments.

I guess I can understand the complaint about the length even for a $15 game. 1up says that if you're any fan of Ratchet at all, you can probably beat it in 2 1/2 hours. that's pretty short even for $15.

do we know how many area we got in q4b? any collectibles or unlockables after we beat the game to give reason to play it again?

I'm also a little bit disappointed when the review said the story don't progress forward enough. I guess that's inevitable because Insomniac certainly don't want to move the story too far that the start of the real sequel could confuse people who don't play q4b.

I'm interested with the part 1up said about Talwyn though. I really like this new character and hoping by the end of Future that she will be a mainstay in the series and may even be playable sometime in the future.

Dunham's favorite games are the Ratchet and Clank games. Tools of Destruction was his pick for 2008 game of the year. Guess he expected more.

This. I know Dunham's a big Ratchet & Clank fan, and I'm inclined to agree that a 3-4 hour Ratchet game may not suit me so well. I love the big, epic feel to these games, and even if the gameplay is solid it will still lack that major part of what makes Ratchet great.

That said, $15 is a fantastic value for a game like that, and I'm really looking forward to it. Who knows, maybe the more intimate setting as well as the adjustments to the gameplay will make up for the lack of scale, but I do see where Dunham's coming from in his review.

Yeah, lasting appeal on a shorter full production game? I mean, what?

There's gotta be n/a somewhere.

Btw, does anyone know how much percentage revenue PSN titles get as opposed to XBLA?

A new ratchey (full game) in 2009? Hope not...I hope it's just more DLC stuff...honestly, I'd rather insomniac work on a new IP for their next title.

im still buying it. i wanna complete the story. obviously its not gonna be very innovative because its meant to basically continue on from the first ps3 one. fall 2009 will bring the next big ratchet game.

so is the disc version in NA? or do we only get to dl it?

Are you sure you're fully understanding what I wrote?

Me: "He wasn't docking the game simply for being short and higher priced than most downloadable games, he docks it for feeling out of character for an R&C adventure and it doesn't work as well for him."

And it's a 3-4 hr game, with less secrets/extras to go back for like the larger R&C adventures. Were you really expecting it to get high marks in the "Lasting Appeal" category? It's a valid observation and he still not really saying anywhere that the price is unfair for what's offered.
