Ratchet and Clank - Quest for Booty - August 21 - $14.99

Impressions from TTP who completed the game (from another GAF thread)

Played and completed. Took me 3 hrs on Normal (Easy and Hard selectable from the start).

It does feel exactly like promoted. It's intense, varied and rewarding. Actually the final fight is better than the one in R&CF. It's also much better balanced between platforming and fighting. And platforming actually requires some skill this time. The new wrench functionalities are very nicely implemented in a variety of ways. Not only you can activate stuff with it, like turning platforms "on" but u can actually move some floating ones freely arranging them in order to create a path forward. And you can move Ratchet while the wrench is "connected" to whatever it is connected to so this allows for some challenging bits where u have to move Ratchet with the left stick while operating "remotely" with the wrench via the right stick.

Technically, lighting is a big deal better than the previous R&C (and game makes use of this gameplay-wise) and textures are awesome all over the place. No ups and downs if u get what I mean. There is still the annoying fluctuation with the frame rate tho and at times it can get quite bad (to MY standards) especially when there are smoke/fog effects around. I do start wondering if it would be better to just lock it at 30fps and add motion blur. Anyway, this is not something that affects the gameplay experience at all. No tearing btw.

Overall: Best PSN game to date of course and best chunk of R&C awesomeness ever put together.
Wish there where Trophies :/

And this is all I can say I guess (dont even bother asking me about the ending or the "surprise" Stevenson mentioned). I cant release media since this is only for print. I'm not even sure I can post comments here. But I got too many "You bastard!!11" messages while playing so I feel like I have to share part of it.

No trophies? That's actually surprising. Insomniac is usually on top of this kind of thing. It certainly adds value to the game, and I think they're missing out on sales by not including them, especially because it's early on. With so few games supporting them right now, the ones that do get extra attention from me. Either way I'll buy QFB, but it seems crazy not to toss trophies in there as Insomniac had to know they've been coming for quite some time.

Just because we knew they were coming doesn't mean we had the trophy spec. That, and the 2.4 firmware for devs, didn't come down until we were already in the final stages of Q4B. We didn't have time to add it.

All future games, including R2, will support trophies though.

Ahh bummer, I love trophies. Oh well, at least R2 will have them. Thanks for the info.

Nice impressions from TTP. Shame on the framerate, since Future was so incredibly smooth, but oh well. Day 1.

ttp is saying QFB has same framerate issues as future, so you should be fine :D

Dang Siren took so much of my space, I hope this one is not more than 5 gigs. I'm afraid it will be, shame there's no bluray version for NA. Love Ratchet though so I will get it anyways.

Pretty much yeah. There is just one section, actually the beginning of it, and a couple more that suffer more than Future ever did (in terms of "seconds spent under 60fps" if u get what I mean). But nothing that would bother 99% of the people here and out there.

Seriously, my PS3 is godly or something. I only noticed the framerate going down, like 10 times in a whole Future-playthrough.

That's about the same range of QFB. Im not saying game is not 60fps anymore :lol

That's not bad at all... when I meant 10 times in a whole playthrough, I meant it wasn't a problem at all :p Besides, the fps would just go down to like 45, minimum.

I'll go for it as long as it isn't too puzzle/platform orientated. I essentially consider the R&C games to be 3rd person shooters.

in december i started up RnCF and ended up stopping just after the Pirate Hideout. i picked it up earlier tonight in order to be caught up for Q4B and god damn if the game isn't addictive.

i gotta get some sleep so i can finish it tomorrow

It varies quite a bit by territory due to localization, but it's definitely a decent sized file.

So does that mean that since I live in germany I will only be able to paly it in German if I buy it on the PSN store? I always played the games in english and want to continue that.

I just need to know so I can buy it from the US PSN store instead and I guess the Blu-ray will be multi language too?

Has there been any talk about the DL size? 2-3GB I would assume.

actually, Insomniac uses pre-rendered video, so it'll probably be 5-6GB.

The review code installed is about 3 gigabytes, if I remember correctly. Since TTP posted his take on the game, I'll mention something too.

It's good and fun. The opening level takes away your guns and it's all about platforming, rails, traversing the enviroment. Same thing in the second world, but of course then later on it's all about shooting. You can buy a few guns from the the pirate dude, but there's no separate gun shop, instead guns are given to you. Wrench is fun, seems like a mechanic they didnt have time to implement in ToD. There's one nifty puzzle where you have to move around a few statues to generate a shadow of a skull by using the magnetic wrench to move the statues around. Quite a nice break from the usual R&C gameplay. The production values are impeccable, But the story isn't advanced seriously at all, which I was bummed about.

15$ sounds pretty good value to me, hoping that the Europrice is then 9,99 euros. Again, the game's localization is exemplary, with lots of European languages in there. Depending on what language your PS3 is set, the game'll use that if it's got it.

The game was pretty much done around the time Trophies were announced, so no wonder there's no support for it. There's none of the usual golden bolt collecting either.

I don't mind either way just give me the damn game!
I never played Ratchet until I played R/C:ToD. I absolutely love it and I must have mOAR!

same here. I started with ToD, and I now own every Ratchet game for PS2 and PSP as well (plus Spyro on the PSN).

But man, I am hesitant here, because I'm afraid of buying the DLC version, and then finding out the next day that minds were changed, and a BD version is coming out in NA after all.

edit: if I wait and import the BD (it's not region encoded, right?) is there anything I'll miss out on? I haven't imported any console games before, besides a couple of Japanese DS games.

it's very short game and under $30 , they won't put it on blu-ray ..

but they should add it to Ratchet and Clank Future TOD Greatest Hit on the same disc next year

In europe there will be a Blu-ray version. SCEE announced it a few weeks ago.

Amazon.de lists it for September 17th (20€ iirc).

They WILL be putting it on Bluray in PAL territories.

And adding it to greatest hits doesn't help me since I already own the game.

Now, that's a strange departure, esp. considering gold bolt collecting would seem to be in line with this outings' emphasis on more platforming/traversal.

This will be among the 3-4 sweetest gaming hours I have spent since I finished Tools of Destruction. Thank you Insomniac for feeding our Ratchet and Clank: Future addiction and please dont wait too long for the next full-length installment. The first one was a beautiful blast!

I don't understand why Capcom says they are going to patch Bionic Commando soon for trophies yet Insomniac wants nothing to do with it for a game that cost $15 and is so short to begin with

I'm pretty sure they want to see how well it will see first without trophies, then if it isn't good, then put them in for good measure. Easy money IMO.

Capcom already has all the logic/hooks in place for BCR for the Medals. Same thing with Uncharted. Would take more time and effort to add them to Booty plus possibly an additional trip through SCE QA (which may delay it), but I can't imagine it would be ridiculously significant.

With a push to get R2 as perfect as possible, they probably weren't budgeted for in terms of time and money.

Striker, if you don't want Q4B to spoil the story in TOD and you don't already know the story from TOD then, yes, you should wait. Otherwise, it shouldn't matter.

Can't fucking wait, seriously. And this will have a BD-release soon?

WHEN?

jstevenson or anyone else in the know, sorry if this has already been asked:

will there be any interaction with the TOD save file for those who completed it. IE Will I have my fully upgradeton omega weapons/awesome armor? Otherwise I'm guessing Ratchet threw them all off a cliff in a fit of emo sadness for his lost buddy.

I don't think so

No, said they wanted it to be a completely individual experience.

As far as I know, there is no connectivity between the two games, but you never know! Either way, it'll be a great game, must purchase.

I don't know why people keep asking for this kind of bonus, they always suck. What the hell do you want your old ToD save to do with QfB?
Exactly what I was thinking. My 120+ hours save would totally CRUSH the game, it would just suck.

I agree, as it seems to take a lot of the 'fun' out of the game. Part of the excitement with the Ratchet and Clank games was upgrading everything and working for it. Though, it was present in past R&C games, I never did opt for it, always started fresh.

That said, I really hope this game is a huge success, Insomniac deserves it for this truly episodic content.

Agreed, this better be a huge success. They deserve it and I really appreciate that they're doing a BD version of it! I love having my games in a box :)!
